EXCLUSIVE: Fox’s Bones spinoff The Finder is still very much in contention for a series order at Fox. But with shelf space at the network so tight, I hear the network and the series’ producers are exploring a way to give the project presence on Fox next season. The pregnancy of Bones star Emily Deschanel is expected to sideline her for as many as 6-7 episodes from Bones‘ upcoming seventh season. Fox, producing studio 20th TV and Bones creator Hart Hanson are discussing the use of Finder-flavored episodes as a filler during Deschanel’s maternity leave. Those will be Bones episodes with The Finder star Geoff Stults and his sidekick Michael Clarke Duncan appearing in them, giving Hanson an opportunity to further develop them. The future of the third Finder lead, played by Saffron Burrows, which has drawn polarizing reaction, is unclear, but I hear that the producers felt it was hard to service more than 2 new characters on Bones. Sources stress that this is one of several scenarios in contention for Deschanel’s hiatus.
The Finder was introduced in an episode of Bones last month, which got traction with the veteran series’ fans. However, Fox already has Terra Nova and X Factor on tap for fall and Touch penciled in for midseason, so the network will probably pick up as few as 2 new series. With the Ethan Hawke starrer Exit Strategy and medical drama Weekends at Bellevue gaining momentum, it is probably smart to look at alternatives for The Finder. Keeping the show alive with a short order would make it easy for Fox to give it a full-blown series pickup if any of its other new series fails.

I kinda liked the Finder episode. I wish I could still say that I think it’s too quirky for Fox (in a way, it feels like a USA show), but after Glee and Raising Hope, I think that ship has sailed.
Put me down as one of those who *does* like Saffron Burrows as Ike. The overblown Cockney accent is a ginormous problem, especially after seeing her do a great job in the Jason Statham flick The Bank Job — but both her character and Michael Clarke Duncan’s character have secret reasons for sticking with the Finder, so Ike’s accent could *easily* be ditched in the show’s first real episode as part of a reveal for whatever Ike’s real story is.
Moreover, I think that Human Target and Finder would be a good pairing on the schedule. Human Target’s pop in the ratings for its one-time airing on Monday at 9pm the week before its second season finale is practically a declaration in BIG! LETTERS! that that show should be renewed — and for a full season order this time. But . . .
Finder *might* be a little bit too breezy for the Fall, which is why I think that Fox should experiment a little. Renew Human Target for a full 22 episodes and greenlight Finder for 13 episodes now and get them up and running ASAP. Target could air at 8pm in the fall, accompanying Finder and then Bones. Then, come January and American Idol, Target could move to either 8pm on Fridays or wherever a better timeslot needed shoring up. Likely Mondays after House, with Finder either landing on Fridays at 8pm or even airing on Fridays at 9pm instead of Fringe repeats.
Why not order 9 episodes of TF and use it as a way to eliminate repeats of Bones? Finish however many episode before ED goes on leave and then restart production when she returns. Seems pretty simple.
This THE FINDER was just plain BAD. I have no interest in
watching if it becomes a series.
It seems that the prioducers of Bones are determined to
get this garbage on the air.
Let FOX just runs a set of reruns The Best of Bones for the
time period it is not in production.
This is a bad idea. I did not like The Finder and will not
bother watching it for as its own show or as a filler for
Bones.
The writing and acting was just plain BAD.

The question should be…. will the Bones fans and watch The
Finder or leave and not return after Bones is in production again.
No, no no!! please please don’t make any more episodes that are bones/finder – It’s the only episode of season 6 that will I never watch again. the finder’s characters spent too much time trying to create inside jokes that Bones has spent years perfecting, and Saffron Burrows character’s constant mispronunciation of words had me groaning in exasperation. They clearly did not have enough faith in the finder to give it it’s own pilot episode, and now they want to blur it in with Bones because it definately does not deserve it’s own time slot.
This scheme sounds like it was concocted by some agent. Nobody wants to see these two solve mysteries except their representatives. Barf.
it’s kind of amusing to hear bones fanf dissing the finder. maybe it was bad, but we can agree on one fact: bones is a pretty awful show too. i mean come on! who are we kidding?
I hope they’ve already considered this option and thrown it straight into the trash can. That embedded “pilot” episode of The Finder was terrible. It needs a lot more work and shouldn’t be done at Bones’ expense. Why don’t you just shoot as many episodes as you can before she really starts showing. Then take your summer break. Pick up after she comes back to work. Then show the entire season starting in January. Then there’s room in the schedule to play with The Finder as its own show. Please don’t kill Bones with this nonsense.
I don’t know how I feel about Finder. I fell asleep the first time I tried to watch the episode, but I’m willing to watch it again. The show has to do something while she’s on maternity leave. As for fan boards as proof of anything, they represent a minute portion of the overall viewing audience.
If they want to take Bones off the schedule for 6 weeks (or delay the premiere for 6 or 7 weeks – maybe after baseball is over) and instead of showing reruns (like they normally would), replace it with Finder episodes, that’s okay with me. As long as Bones still gets a full schedule of 22 eps. I DO NOT want Bones episodes taken over by Finder characters and have 6 or 7 episodes of Bones just thrown away (not to mention paying to have them on my DVD box set and having to skip them all when I rewatch). I truly believe it will harm Bones to do that. You will lose fans of one show to try and sell another. Sorry, but that makes no economic sense to me.
How about bringing back everyone’s favorite Dr. Addy and do some episodes about what has been happening to him and how grand it is that he is finally back in the fold. For me, it has never been the same since they pulled him from the show…
Last eppy was very good. Do not mend Finder with Bones! HORRIBLE idea! Don’t do it, make them sperate and don’t cancel Bones at season 7 there are so many options on how you can cont’ with many more season.
