Mike & Molly star Melissa McCarthy and Annie Mumolo have sold to Paramount Pictures an untitled laffer pitch that will be written as a star vehicle for McCarthy. McCarthy and Mumolo star in the Judd Apatow-produced Bridesmaids, which Mumolo wrote with Kristen Wiig. Lorne Michaels and John Goldwyn produce. The comedy was hatched by McCarthy’s husband, Ben Falcone (also in Bridesmaids). The premise: When your husband is ill and his doctors are out of ideas, piling in the minivan with your pals to steal the Stanley Cup is one way to go. Falcone, Mumalo, and McCarthy all came from the Groundlings comedy troupe. McCarthy is repped by CAA and The Schiff Co. Mumolo is repped by UTA and Thruline Entertainment.

Here’s hoping there’s a hell of a lot more to the pitch than that. If not, I’ve got some old newspapers Paramount can buy for low against mid six!
Well, she’s clearly going to be the scene-stealer in Bridesmaids as the ads have really shifted to focus on her bits. McCarthy may make all the cringe worthy Wiig jokes (drunk and singing show tunes, AGAIN) worth it? Good for McCarthy as she truly is funny and seems to have a bright future.
Ummmm really excited for everyone involved in Bridesmaids but this logline is nonsensical.
You mean steal the Stanley Cup like they did in the movie Safe Men?
Always happy to see writers making money, but obviously this is just a waste of everyone’s time. That movie will never get made.
Good for these two! They are very talented women who are brilliant comedians. We need more of them. Good to see them get their shot. I wish I understood the logline though because it doesn’t make much sense. Neither did the logline or trailer for Bridesmaids and look what that’s doing. They are talented ladies, looking forward to the next one.
I know they didn’t buy it based on this lame-ass logline.
After seeing Bridesmaids, I’ll be the first in line to see their movie.
This project has been developed at Disney years ago. It was called, Stanley’s Cup.
No new ideas.
McCarthy and Mumulo are no doubt spending the weekend celebrating the success of BRIDESMAIDS and all you screenwriter-wannabe whiners can do is talk trash. Go ahead and rot in your own piles of putrid jealousy. Are you having fun being cynical and arrogant while two talented women make lucrative deals? I’m certainly having fun laughing at your pathetic envy.
What didn’t make sense about the Bridesmaids’ trailer or logline? I thought it looked hilarious and seemed like a great idea from the beginning. This one looks like a piece if crap though. Maybe the Safe Men writers will get a royalty check.
It’ll never work. You can’t sell a comedy for women and make money! Right Nikki?
