EXCLUSIVE: Screen Gems has made its choice: Jamie Campbell Bower will get the male lead in The Mortal Instruments, the Scott Charles Stewart-directed adaptation of the Cassandra Clare novel series. He’ll play Jace Wayland, starring alongside Lily Collins, who’ll play the lead heroine Clary Fray. She has The Sight, and can see both demons and Shadowhunters. Jace is one of the best of the latter. When Clary’s mother is abducted, she is forced to learn about her bloodline and abilities in order to get her mother back. Clare’s series is comprised of six novels and is expected to launch a franchise. The role has been considered a potential star-making vehicle for an actor, and there has been much speculation on who’ll get it. I’m told the deal is being made now for Bower, who is best known for playing King Arthur in the TV series Camelot, and for playing Caius in the final installments of The Twilight Saga and Gellert Grindelwald in the final Harry Potter films. He’s repped by CAA and London-based Simon Beresford.

Listen, ladies. I think Jamie is going to do great. I was sad at first that Alex chose not to do this film. But, on second thought I am trusting the people making this pic. Jamie will be awesome. Give the boy a chance. I am so ready for this movie to start it is not even funny. Can’t wait to see the other cast members……Great job Gems!!!!!
I agree that Jamie will do a fantastic job. He’s a natural born “star”. This young man is going to do great things. I’m looking forward to this series and I know nothing about the novels but because of Mr. Bower I’ll be watching. His voice is what really gets my attention. I wish him well. Alex Pettyfer didn’t want the role. He doesn’t want to play teenagers anymore and to be honest, hes a bad actor, while Jamie Bower has been an amazing actor.

Meh on the casting. The directing choice is surprising. Scott Stewart is failing upwards (a la Catherine Hardwicke) kudos to his reps for shielding him from Legion and Priest.
Well, it is hard to believe that his performance as Arthur is the driving influence on this casting.

oh my god the fan girls are freaking out. I knew Alex Pettyfer wasn’t going to happen once it was announced he was doing Overdrive and Magic Mike but I was hoping for Benjamin Stone.
I love him in Camelot. I believe the producers made the right decision in picking him out of all the contenders for the part.
For goodness sakes people just wait until the movie comes out to judge how well he is going to do. people can surprise you, if you give them a chance. I wanted Alex to but oh well. And if you love this book as much as I do, then you most likely will still give it a chance. Can’t we just be excited this book is being made into a movie in the first place?!

Maybe he’s good in Harry P. but I find him dull in Camelot. I guess he was cast for his tween following, but he makes Arthur a lot less appealing.
I agree with you. Only thing is I doubt tweens are watching this show. He’s miscast. I was hoping they would kill him off somehow and have Arthur come back as another actor
Definitely, a miscast and him getting the lead probably explains why STARZ has been quiet on renewing Camelot.
He had a blink and you miss appearance in Harry Potter if I’m not mistaken.

Pettyfur cannot act if his life depended on it. Worst and most horrid actor I’d ever had to sit through. Really had hope he was good in acting not just looks. Jamie is a sweetheart and has talent, thank you Sony for giving him a chance.
Finally someone who agrees. That’s really the only reason that everyone wants him to play Jace. ONLY because of the looks. Acting is the most important for any movie. Looks can easily be made by make-up.
