Los Angeles….Katie Holmes (Batman Begins, Thank You For Smoking, Go) and Chace Crawford (“Gossip Girl”, Twelve) have signed on for the starring roles in the comedy-romance RESPONSIBLE ADULTS, written by Alex Schemmer. Jon Poll, the director of Charlie Bartlett and a producer/ editor of Dinner for Schmucks and Meet The Fockers will direct. Michael Roiff (Serious Moonlight, Waitress) from Night & Day Pictures is producing with Julie Yorn (Unstoppable, Bride Wars, The Exorcism of Emily Rose). Myriad Pictures is pre-selling international rights in Cannes this week.
Holmes plays 30-year-old-med student Liz Quinn, who meets charming 22-year-old Baxter Wood (Crawford). Their chemistry is electric until she realizes they have already met – she was his babysitter 15 years ago. But Baxter isn’t going to give up that easily on the one person he always felt knew him better than anyone else.
Kirk D’Amico, Myriad Pictures CEO said, “We look forward to working with Michael Roiff again and with Julie Yorn. The script is very funny. Katie Holmes and Chace Crawford are appealing actors around the world. And Jon Poll is a a terrific filmmaker. We are really pleased to help bring Responsible Adults to the big screen.”
Producer Michael Roiff echoes the sentiment. “We had an incredible experience with Myriad on Serious Moonlight and I’m ecstatic to partner again with Kirk. Julie and I are both so pleased we were able to make the deal in time for Cannes.” He went on to praise his director as well. “Jon is unbelievably funny and has incredible commercial sensibilities,” he said. “Jon’s been a producer and/or editor on a number of huge hits including The 40 Year Old Virgin, Meet The Fockers, Dinner for Schmucks and Austin Powers 1, 2 and 3.”
Roiff describes how the project came to be. “Alex Schemmer and I went to Harvard together and acted in the Hasty Pudding Show. He asked me to read his script and my whole office flipped for it. One thing led to another, we attached Jon and then partnered with Julie. Now we’ve added Katie, Chace and Myriad – a fantastic team – the next stop is making this film a reality.”
Responsible Adults is Schemmer’s first screenplay. He is also an actor who appears regularly on numerous television series.
Casting is underway for other supporting characters. Responsible Adults is currently scheduled to start principal photography in the fall in Los Angeles.

WHY ? Is the World asking for a Katie movie? I think not.
cause you’re not the “world” apparently, d’oh.
They are at interesting ages and will make an interesting couple in a movie.
I have always liked younger men. I have never dated or had sex with anyone older than me – it hasn’t been a conscious choice, just a fact. I love their youthful energy, it makes me feel young. Not that I am old – really, 35 isn’t, and society is more accepting of cougar relationships these days.
So beware guys the cougars are on the loose – and if they lure you in you might just be in for the best ride of your life.
TMI bro…
I’ve always felt that Holmes decision to not return to the Batman franchise hurt her career as every single film since has been a creative and commercial dud.
Guess you didn’t get the official word: Katie was asked NOT to return to the Batman franchise. And I’m fairly sure she’ll be asked to never revisit the Kennedy franchise…or any other franchise.
The Cruise family is box-office kryptonite.
Tom Cruise played a Nazi and did over $100 million. Katie Holmes is not Tom Cruise.
Cruise-bashing is so ’05.
Actually Valkyrie did NOT make over $100 million in the U.S. It made closer to $80 million, which for a Cruise film is not good.
Katie + Chace = VOD = Direct-to-Video
Cannes: Katie Holmes, Chace Crawford Team For Same Haircut
I didn’t bother to read the article. These two are as uninteresting as yesterday’s oatmeal.
Katie used to have something but since marrying TC that “something” somehow got sucked out of her.
What a stupid comment. What exactly did Katie have before she marry Tom Cruise?
oh boy, Holmes and Crawford, two beautiful creatures that can’t act. at least they’ll look like a magnificent couple.
actually, it wasn’t her decision to leave, Warner Bros and Nolan decided not to ask her back after she spent her time promoting Tom Cruise’s “War of the World” the same summer as the Batman movie was out, they thought those two were taking too much attention away from the movies. Nolan even said that she lacked the intensity (cue bad acting) the character is required for the second film, so they decided to recast, it was announced when the first film was still in theater.
You, sir, are TOO addicted to tabloid bullsh!ts.
