In the battle of the bubble crime-drama spinoffs, veteran CSI: NY won a reprieve with a last-minute renewal, while freshman Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior is being canceled after a short midseason run. I hear the size of the order for CSI: NY has not been set. There has been speculation that it may not be a full-season 22 episodes. It came down to the wire
between the two series, both owned by CBS. Yesterday, CBS made all other freshman cancellations – The Defenders, $#*! My Dad Says and Mad Love — but left Suspect Behavior in contention. Given the great success CBS has had with expanding its CSI and NCIS crime drama franchises, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior has been a disappointment, never finding its footing behind the mothership Criminal Minds series on Wednesday. Meanwhile, while taking a dive in the ratings in its move from Wednesday to Friday this season, CSI: NY has a rich off-network syndication deal and sells well internationally. P.S.: For those who keep asking about The Good Wife, it is not in danger. Neither is Blue Bloods.

Yeah, one more round, thank you CBS
I liked this show, mainly because of Forrest Whitaker, have always liked his acting. Don’t understand why it’s cancelled. I’m sorry to see it go, glad they kept CSI, love Gary Sinese.
I agree Gary sinese is CSI NY. He is awesome and ms. Ward is a great addition to the cast. We don’t think we would continue to watch the show if Gary sinese is no longer on it. Thank you thank you for bringing csi ny back. I hope it stays for good!
I’m really disappointed that I can’t see another season of CMSB with the GREAT Forest Whitaker. I really like him and I think they lost a great actor. I suggest the producer of Criminal Minds to take him in the cast instead of Aaron Hotchner. I don’t like his long face.He seems always to have a bat between the buttocks!
You people wrote wrong the Italian surnames here: Sinise, Garofalo. How do you write the Chinese ones?
Glad to hear Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior was cancelled! What a poorly written and acted program. Forrest Whittaker should stick to movies, he mumbles too much to hold my attention for 44 minutes. Garafolo CANNOT ACT and the scripts were ridiculous. Oh, and bring back JJ on the original CM series.
ps – good call CBS on guaranteeing the NFL income while we all watch HBO until they return to the field.
Agree totally Crimal Minds Suspect Behavior had to go. They got rid of two excellent actors to make room for this show. Bring back JJ and Emily to Criminal Minds. Add a little romance to the show and it is my pick!!!!!!Love the reruns on ION TV and need my daily fix!!!!
totally agree – Forrest Whittiker mumbles like post hungover drunk – speak clearly and wake up >> no comparison with the source program
I think Criminal Minds went down hill when A.J Cook & Padget Brewster, were let go, they made the show!!!! It is not the same without them!!
I agree. They got rid of J.J. and brought in that other blonde and she has an attitude. I don’t care for her. I really like Brewster also. The thing is when you have a good thing don’t mess with it.
I agree and think JJ and Paget should be brought back on Criminal Minds.
I’m sorry to see CSI: NY being renewed. It’s not because Sinsese is a right wing Republican. It’s because he has no picture of President Obama in his government office on the show. He does have one of Ronald Reagan however. Total sign of disrespect. Sorry to see Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior go. It was starting to find its stride.
I have no respect for the man either, might be the cammander in cheif, but is not respected much around the world.
Really? You don’t like the show because Gary doesn’t have a picture of Obama in his office? WOW! I guess I was too busy watching the show to really care that he didn’t have a picture of Obama up in his office. As for the direspect comment, depends who you ask. I could care less personally. I don’t know why he would have a picture of any president in his office even if he does work for the government. It’s just a show. A very good one, but it’s just a show & shouldn’t get involved in the political game.
well well its a tv show not politics obama does not have pic in my office either no disresopect just my prefrence part of being an american freedom of choice
Started watching this year really like the show alot
i was upset that csiny was cancelled. bring it back is great. what nightis it on? it is a big favorite.
Good call/Criminal Mind was a bore ( besides could ANYONE understand what Whitaker was says- has the brando mumble problem)
as for CSI/NYC…it still holds its own
I think they should’ve canceled at least one CSI and keep Suspect Behaviour on fridays maybe,
anyway one had to go, just imagine 3 CSI, 2 NCIS and 2 CI, that’s too much, and still with CI:SB gone, there are too many CSI’s
As long as we fans keep watching, 3 CSIs are not too many, each has it’s own fan base. I’ma die hard NCIS fan but can’t quite get into LA, and where did Forlani come from as the new boss, she gives Mac the Dear John on CSI NY then shows up on NCIS LA…Just to thankful to have good decent, honorable Mac and company back!!
Love CSI NY. Was hoping they would bring Peyton back; she and Mac belong together. There will be no chemistry at all between Mac and Dr. Aubrey. I lile Claire Forlani, it would have made since for NCIS LA to keep her name the same (Peyton). A good story line would then have been to have Mac travel to LA to work on a case and they have to work together. She can go between CSI NY and NCIS LA. Peyton rocks and Mac needs her.
There can never be too many CSI’s. If anything, there’s too many reality shows and those have to go, especially Survivor in all its forms. Whoever thinks that show is entertaining should be stranded on a desert island with a whole collection of Survivor DVD’s with no TV to watch them on.
yes,, there seems to be a huge over abundance of ‘reality’ shows. That and infomercials
I agree there are way too many reality shows. I liked Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior. I don’t watch Criminal Minds because it’s too gory. I guess CBS can’t please everyone but get rid of some of the reality shows, please.
Any body who thinks all those stupid survivor shows are real is nuts. These people ARE NOT on a desert isle. They are not alone running around the world. Who do you think does the filming. Who follows every move they make. They are ridiculous. And all the in fighting you see them in the clips they shows only make them look worst. No wonder cable shows are getting more and more attention.
I agree! Actually, all “reality” shows are so fake but I will admit that the non-thinkers who put these things on the air are doing a great job of “dumbing-down-America”. I cannot believe these silly, unreal programs even get an audiance of one! I think reality viewers would be better off reading a book or at least doing their school homework.
Best news I have heard all year this one Criminal minds: suspect behaviour is going. I may even go out and celebrate, fantastic news.
I like Criminal Minds but not Suspect Behavior, I could not understand a word Forrest said. I believe he should have his eye operated on, because that is all I see when I look at him. I understand the eye problem, but why does he mumble? Does he have a jaw problem too? Suspect Behavior was just stupid because of all the yelling between the FBI agents. The unsubs should make the viewer angry, not the FBI agents.
I THINK THAT THEY SHOULD GET RID OF SOME OF THE CSI SHOWS AND KEEP CRIMINAL MINDS SUSPECT BEHAVIOR BECAUSE IT WAS A GOOD SHOW AND IT HASNT EVEN BEEN GIVEN A CHANCE TO REALLY SEE IF IT IS ANY GOOD OR NOT IT WAS ONLY ON FOR ONE SEASON AND THE WAY IT WENT OFF THAT WASNT THE WAY TO END A SHOW JUST TO NOT COME BACK AND SEE WHAT HAPPENED THE NEXT SEASON FOR ALL THE FANS SO WHAT IF PEOPLE DONT LIKE IT I DID AND I WATCHED EVERY EPISODE AND I HAVE ALSO WATCHED ALL OF CRIMINAL MINDS . I LOOKED FORWARD TO WED. NIGHTS SO I COULD WATCH BOTH SHOWS .PLEASE CHANGE YOUR MINDS AND KEEP BOTH CRIMINAL MINDS AND CSI MIAMI.
Are they just torturing Good Wife fans on purpose?
Bet they wish they hadn’t cancelled Ghost Whisperer now. It was a solid performer with good international sales.
Anything known (or rumored) about the good wife’s fate??
I wonder if they’ll play it up as CSI: NY’s final season?
If you read the last line of the paragraph above, you will see right there in bold: For those who keep asking about The Good Wife, it is not in danger. Scroll back up…it’s right there……
Hallelujah!!!!
If they were gonna keep it, they’d have had to dump all of the cast except Whittaker to make me watch it again. And why doesn’t Richard Schiff come onto CM as the Director??
Any news on The Mentalist or NCIS: Los Angeles??
Nothing to worry about, they will be back for sure.
Both shows are very safe – solid high ratings, nothing to worry about.
Once again, are you kidding, both those shows are safe, they are top shows on cbs.
Good Wife is likely to get a two-season order.
no way they would cancel The Good Wife. Why are fans worried?
Because some of us remember shows like Without A Trace, Cold Case…
Different shows with different economic factors in play.
and Ghost whisperer
Some of my favorite shows ever.. still can’t believe the reason behind cancelling any of those.
I’d presume this means bad news for Blue Bloods, and that NYT was off-base in that article.
Nellie believes that neither Blue Bloods or The Good Wife will be canceled.
Best day every, THANK YOU CBS!! Love the CSI: NY, and it did hold itself on Friday night.
The CSI people must be quietly scouting for new locations.
My guess would be New Orleans – you get accents, folksy stories, and tons of goodwill for pumping money into the local economy.
Not to mention tax breaks from the state.
That would be great.
All the CSI shows film in California. So if they did a new spin-off, chances are it’d be filmed there, too.
Actually almost all exterior shots of the franchise are filmed on location in the designated city. Anything filmed inside regularly is shot on a soundstage in Los Angeles.
Its the same way they filmed ER. The outdoor shots were genuinely Chicago, but everything inside the hospital was filmed in LA.
Finally a station got it right. Great that CSI:NY is coming back. Usually it’s the crappy shows that hang around and they cancel the good ones.
Seriously? CSI NY is a copy of a copy of a copy.
It was a copy that continued to deliver quality TV which is more than can be said for riff-raff level comedies like Big Bang Theory and Mike and Fatty.
THANK YOU!!!! LOL TRUE!
Enough with criminal minds, that show is bad for people. That stuff should not be on TV
CRIMINAL MINDS IS THE BEST SOOOOO GLAD PAGET AND A.J ARE BACK
This is the best move the producers of Criminal Minds could make. A.J. Cook and Paget Brewster really make the show go. That half wit Rachel Nichols was horrid as the J.J. replacement. She only got the job because she looked like A.J. Cook. Nichols had a lousy attitude and was a horiffic actress..thank God she’s gone! Really glad Criminal Minds is back together again with the proper cast but, in a way, I still miss Mandy Patinkin
Fire the idiot that did the casting for the 2nd Criminal Minds installment.
The demographics of people watching this show is not going to be receptive, for the most part, to someone as odious Janeane Garofalo.
When you start off with that bit of casting, you have stuck your finger in the eye of a few million potential viewers who simply can not stand her.
The networks just are not going to learn.
Glad however that CSI: NY is coming back. It’s not all that great of a show frankly, but the cast is pretty engaging.
Totally agree with this. Garofolo is too toxic to cast in a show like this.
Definitely she is old school and turns everyone off. One of reasons could not watch it, that and all the other cast members.
Much as I hate conservatives (and do NOT think Janeane is “odious”), Tim’s got a point. CBS’s main audience is older-skewing flyover country, and a known lefty like Garofolo in a starring role (as opposed to a guest-starring gig on 24) couldn’t have helped. Although Forest’s bug-eye popping out at me every week didn’t help either.
Stories were boilerplate stuff as was the formula (multi-ethnic team of detectives/CSI/NCIS/FBI/CIA etc. etc.)
Nope it was down to the casting IMO. That and CBS went to the well one too many times.
You’ve obviously never heard JG on her radio show. She makes Linda Blair in THE EXORCIST seem like Kate Hudson in one of her god awful romcoms. I used to like her in movies years ago but if I ever saw her in the street, I’d cross it damn quick. It’s not healthy for a person to have as much rage in them as JG does. I thought I was listening to some rambling mental patient. It was frightening. Surprised she hasn’t had an aneurism quite frankly. And surprised CBS even gave her a job on that show knowing she’s a total turn off to half the population.
Couldn’t agree more concerning Garofalo! I enjoyed the show but for her. I never saw the character … I could only see her and all the idiotic things she has been so public about.
What’s happening with the Rob Schneider, Tony Plana, Nadine Velazquez, Lupe Ontiveros, half hour comedy?
Criminal Minds: Suspect Behaviour was just another generic and derivative police drama series. When you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. I was hoping since last June when it was announced that this would be cancelled immediately.
Thrilled about CSI:NY – Sela Ward has really helped that show.
Lisa, you couldn’t be more wrong. Longtime Sela Ward fan, but she adds nothing to CSI:NY. Total wet blanket, gives flat line readings, zero chemistry with Gary Sinise. CSI:NY seriously needs to be retired, for everyone’s sake (ours and the cast’s).
“CSI:NY seriously needs to be retired, for everyone’s sake (ours and the cast’s).”
Cornelius if you go jump off a cliff you just might get your wish.
It’s real simple, if CSI New York has to go then you have to go.

Ever since the whole “Jericho” thing, CBS was turned a bind eye to “save our show” movements. Campaigns, Petitions and letter are a waste of time.
As much as I like, and like watching, Judy Greer ever since Arrested Development – this show blows. I’ve tried to watch it 3 times and never made it through a single complete episode. The fat bearded guy is untalented, playing a complete jerk and I’m amazed at how haggard Sarah Chalke looks in high-def.
And the writing is mediocre at best, mostly unfunny.
Sorry Judy, catch you next time you’re cast.
show sucks. jason biggs is terrrrrible
does that mean csi miami is coming back???
why are you all concerned about the good wife, it is critically acclaimed and is really the only network show getting any awards attention. RELAX!
criminal minds stands on its own. It is content heavy as it is with the type of stories it features week to week. Suspect Behavior was an overload.I was never interested in watching it in the first place.
YES!!! CSI/NY is coming back. Thank you CBS.
Glad (if admittedly surprised) that NY is back for one more round, be it a full or half season.
I think it’s far more watchable than Miami, which I can barely even consider a forensic procedural in its current incarnation, and IMO more watchable than Vegas at the moment(while the writing is typically strongest there, the cast chemistry does not seem to be as engaging). I guess the mothership is the well, Miami is the comic book version, and NY is sort of a graphic novel version. In any case, Sela Ward was certainly the best thing to happen to NY in a while, even if the move to Fridays nearly killed it.
I have to think that with all the meddling CBS reportedly did behind the scenes with Criminal Minds, they eroded the strength it may have otherwise provided in anchoring and enabling a spin-off. The majority of that core audience didn’t take to the new one, and apparently neither new or casual viewers. Notwithstanding Suspect Behavior certainly wasn’t re-tooled enough from an iffy back-door pilot, and not distinct enough from the original. With only a 13 episode order to begin with, I find it hard to see what kind of future CBS hoped to wring from this one. Not surprised they cut their losses.
As for TGW and BB, it sounds like both will be back. Neither are shows that I watch, but I can see how they might fit with some of the pick ups that have been reported. Curious what their schedule will be.
Okay I’m happy, I’m a total CSI freak so I’m glad all three will be back. I’m really looking forward to seeing how Horatio and Natalia on Miami will survive this time! And also what Ray will tell the IA guy, if he killed Nate Haskell in self-defense or murder? The last scene in CSI NY made me a little worried because of what Mac was saying that he thought he had done his part and the fact that Danny passed his Sgt. exam was good but it got me thinking that Mac wouldn’t be coming back and Danny would be taking his place in the lab. But it’s all good. I can’t wait.
