CBS Schedule: Why Are ‘CSI’ & ‘Good Wife’ Moving? Original Series On Saturday?!
For a second year in a row, CBS made the biggest scheduling move, taking veteran CSI out of Thursday after 10 years and launching new drama Person of Interest in the marquee 9 PM slot. CSI is relocating to Wednesdays 10 PM. Other major moves: CBS sending The Good Wife to Sundays and is bringing original scripted programming to Saturday night with Rules of Engagement:
CBS announced today its new 2011-2012 primetime schedule, ordering five new series and making key time-period moves for CSI and THE GOOD WIFE to strengthen its already top-rated primetime lineup. CBS will, once again, finish the season as America’s most watched network, marking the eighth time it has done so in the last nine years.
The new series include three new dramas and two new comedies: PERSON OF INTEREST, a crime thriller from renowned executive producer J.J. Abrams starring Jim Caviezel, Emmy Award winner Michael Emerson and Academy Award nominee Taraji P. Henson; UNFORGETTABLE, starring Dylan Walsh and Poppy Montgomery as a former detective with a rare condition that enables her to remember virtually every detail from every day of her life; A GIFTED MAN about a preeminent surgeon whose life changes forever when his deceased ex-wife returns, starring Patrick Wilson and Jennifer Ehle; 2 BROKE GIRLS, a comedy about two strikingly different young waitresses who form an unlikely friendship, starring Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs; and an odd-couple comedy, HOW TO BE A GENTLEMAN, starring David Hornsby and Kevin Dillon, about a refined magazine columnist and his very unrefined personal trainer.
The freshman series will be joined by 19 returning shows, including the season’s #1 drama/scripted series, NCIS; #1 comedy, THE BIG BANG THEORY; #1 news magazine, 60 MINUTES; # 1 new comedy, MIKE & MOLLY; along with two franchise reality series, SURVIVOR and the seven-time Emmy Award winner, THE AMAZING RACE.
The other returning series include: HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER; HAWAII FIVE-0; NCIS: LOS ANGELES; CRIMINAL MINDS; CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION; THE MENTALIST; CSI: NY; BLUE BLOODS; RULES OF ENGAGEMENT; 48 HOURS MYSTERY; THE GOOD WIFE; and CSI: MIAMI.
For mid-season, CBS will present the third season of the reality series UNDERCOVER BOSS, and the new police drama, THE 2-2, from Tribeca Productions and executive producers Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal.

Yes, football moves things around during the fall season but the most I have seen on a regular basis is 30 minutes.
Sunday nights on CBS are a crap shoot as nothing ever comes on at it’s scheduled time because of CBS Sports. In my opinion, not a particularly good spot for Ms. Margolies!
CSI: Miami plots have been going downhill for the last few years. The saving grace has been that the color palette is the best on primetime since Lost, and now Hawaii Five O.
I may be in the minority here, but I like the CBS lineup – they took some risks, but all the networks need to take some risks to try to curb audience erosion.
I was preaching about shaking up the key Thursday 9pm slot last week, and finally, someone [CBS] did. THANK YOU CBS! I’m sorry, CSI is ‘done’, as is The Office and Grey’s. Bones – perhaps not; but CSI/Office/Grey’s are all just creatively ‘spent’. Yes, they still get ‘ratings’, but the numbers show advertisers that the eyeballs those shows are getting are not the same as five to ten years ago. CBS is trying to turn the page on the CSI franchise – they need to – they have to try to ‘go young’.
My only complaint about the move is the show they put in it’s place – ‘Person of Interest’. We’ll see, and if I’m wrong, I’ll be the first to admit it.
I predict ‘Person of Interest’ will be moved out of that key slot by mid January/Feb 2012 and placed where it belongs – Friday nights on its way to cancellation along with The River, Prime Suspect and Alcatraz. These shows cannot and will not get a large audience – they are “Friday night” type shows, at best.
I’ve looked at and read everything I can about ‘Person of Interest’, the show and cast, everything I could – I don’t get it. Is this the best CBS had to offer? It ‘tested’ well? Well, we’ll see. It is a ‘Friday night’ type show – it will not get a wide audience at any day or any timeslot, not with that cast. I’m sorry, that cast is ‘not-TV ready’. They need to ‘juice it up’ a bit [Eva Amurri, Adrianne Palicki or Madchem Amick?] before they start filming in July. They go into September with that cast? If so, they’re done, I guarantee it.
The Mentalist will be in that Thursday/9pm slot come February, and Person of Interest will be moved to Friday at 10pm on its way to a ‘special DVD’ offering on Amazon and cancellation next May.
Great… Way to ruin my DVR schedule! Well at least Criminal Minds is still on Wed at 9… That’s all that matters to me anyways=]
I for one, am often home on weekend evenings due to having a toddler – Saturday night TV is always a good option for me.
I like csi suspect behavior….. Hate to see it go
Why is the Good Wife not on?! And some show I don’t watch is running back to back?
What happened to CSI NY? Where is it.
