Veteran TV marketing executives Bob Bibb and Lew Goldstein will not be succeeding the CW’s marketing chief Rick Haskins who will be leaving the network in August. Despite a published report that Bibb and Godstein, who helped launch Fox and the WB, have been tapped to replace Haskins, I hear that new CW president Mark Pedowitz has yet to start a search for a marketing chief and that Bibb and Goldstein have neither met nor will be meeting for the job. The two most recently ran marketing for Lifetime until their contracts expired a year ago.

Just pick up Nikita and Hart of Dixie!
Nobody will watch Hart of Dixie. It’s a snorefest.
The CW *needs* the feel of The WB, and Bob and Lew were masters at creating and marketing an image. Just go back thru the many campaigns and launches…the look and feel captivated young America and made The WB a destination. That was certainly lost with the green/Free to Be nonsense The CW debuted with. An identity (and awareness) is sorely needed–the network is (and can be) much more than smutty, rich girls, which, unfortunately, is how many viewers see the programming, if they notice at all.
I’m ALL FOR Bob and Lew and a return to the philosophy that made The WB great, and created an enduring “love affair” and “goodwill” among fans of that era.
Mark Pedowitz has already endeared himself to fans with the news about Sarah and the “Ringer” pickup–please make that happen. Thinking big and outside the box is critical to getting the wheels turning in a positive direction. Hopefully the CBS minds will see that, as well, and allow the leeway to grow and prosper the bottom line.
I happen to know Mark from his ABC Studio days — he will try his best to turn it around. No one, including himself, is expecting any miracles, however. CW is a brand that has been in CRISIS for MANY YEARS, and needs time to FIND ITSELF. Some believe that is still possible, others have given up.
And that is understandable considering how CW has treated it’s audience, especially in the past year.
Clearly you have never worked with them.
Consider this my official application for the job. The CW need some serious marketing help. They have absolutely NO idea how to reach their target audience. It’s embarrassing.
Shouldn’t somebody call CW HR? No reason for TWO people’s careers — Bob and Lew’s — to be held back. They did some great work together at FBC.
Get rid of the development team that keeps buying this crap and you’ll make it easier on the new hire.
Bob and Lew are marketing geniuses, period. The CW would be lucky to have them, I hope they can figure out a way to make it work.
Bob and Lew were past their prime at the WB. Their vision, or what’s left of it, is stale at best and detrimental at worst. While at the WB they became known as the one note duo because they couldn’t create a fresh or youthful spin on the shows there. They refused to recognize trending promos and continuously forced tired old retredded dreck on-air. If the CW wants a shot at finally breaking out as an also ran, they’d be very wise to look elsewhere.
Really? Obviously you don’t work at the cw or you would be whistling a different tune.
I’d love to work at The CW! Or even on one of their shows!
The guy they should look at is Anthony Armenise. He was Bob and Lew’s lieutenant at Lifetime, is about 20 years younger, and 100 times more talented.
Armenise is the shit. Started at E!, then to ABC and launched HUGE campaigns, then did the same at CW, Lifetime…til now. Well liked and respected EVERYWHERE. CW would be lucky to have him back…
Ha ha ha ha. That’s funniest thing I’ve heard all month
CW has another problem too. I’ve watch the first season of thier show Nikita. The show itself has developed a real fan base and the show is in a bubble which means it faces either cancelition or renewal. CW’s attitude with the show has left fans antsy, frustrated from what I learned in my Google searches. CW executives need show some responisibity toward the fans instead of keeping them in the dark. Maggie Q has now spoken out in Digital Spy. Of course the creaters of the show have expressed thier confident of rewnewal. CW executives at least should show fans of first season shows some respect. Renewal should be announce sooner than later. Now Nikita’s fate will not be known till CW upfront at the end of the week.
It does make me wonder how many good shows have canceled due to thier dithering on questions of renewal.
As for a network overall CW needs to reach to broader different audience demographics both old and young if it’s going to survive and compete in this directtv 500 channel envoriment.
bob and lew? seriously? they’ve done some great stuff – that plane thing at Lifetime was so genius that people still don’t understand it. and that’s what brands need – marketing so genius that no one gets it.
Pedowitz is too smart to hire a couple of guys with the worst reputation in town. No one wants to work for them. The litany of their abuse is legendary. Plus, you don’t need to hire two overpaid people for the position.
Fresh talent with fresh ideas would be nice. Oh wait, this is Hollywood. Just the same pieces of the chest board moving around pretending they know what the fuck they’re doing.
Yanni- you nailed it.
“100 times more talented”??? Someone has been reading their own press releases.
