DC Comics will release Justice League Issue 1 digitally on Aug. 31, kick-starting an initiative in which the company will renumber its entire line of superhero comics from No. 1 and launch them day-and-date with their print debuts. Justice League marks the first collaboration between DC Entertainment chief creative officer Geoff Johns and DC Comics co-publisher Jim Lee; the pair will introduce an origin story for the legendary superhero team. DC Comics says it is the first major American comics publisher to release all of its superhero titles digitally the same day as their print premieres.

Yawn—
More GIMMICKS instead of good, solid stories.
The industry is a clusterf–k, populated by fanboys who’s only interest IS comics and nothing more and who’s best title sells no more copies than seats in Madison Square Garden. A sorry state.
The industry is dead. It just hasn’t learned to roll over yet.
Much of that is due to the poor writing. The best creators from the late 80′s “2nd golden age” went to Hollywood or retired to enjoy their money. In some cases like Alan Moore he started his own label and promised to never have any interaction with DC or Marvel again.
Comics have taken on a reputation as being a farm team for Hollywood writers. As such you never see writers give their “A Game” because they would rather sell their best ideas in a screenplay. Then you have guys like JM Straczynski who clearly has Attention Deficit Disorder. He committed to head write both Superman and Wonder Woman and bailed on both halfway through a story arch to make bigger money writing Graphic Novels.
Dan Didio and Joe Quesada try their best to out stupid each other, hurting DC and Marvel in the process. Marvel’s “Ultimate” universe, the best selling re-invention of their flagship lines has become a Clusterf-cked mess. DC milked their fans and hurt comic shop owners with a number of weekly series year long series that ultimately sucked and didn’t sell.
Comics also cost too damn much. 5 or 6 comic books shouldn’t cost 20+ dollars but they do. Between high prices and adult subject matter DC and Marvel have driven young readers away from the market.
Errr… Um… “only interest is comics and nothing more” is there something more to comics than comics? Bitter much? All those speculator comics you have in your basement not selling?
Comics are just storyboards, advertising, and pitch material. But if DC is serious about the medium (beyond the above), produce content intended for those who own mobile devices. It sure isn’t fan boys.
Terrible move on the re-numbering. Some of DC’s comics have a 70 year tradition. Action Comics just published issue 900. The flagship that introduced Superman to the world is going to scrap it’s issue number because somebody on an iPad won’t “get it”?
Back in the 90′s there were gimick 1st issues and issue zeros and multiple covers… the whole thing burned out even the most loyal collectors. This feels like a do-over of that mistake.
Wow, a reboot of the DC Universe! It’s been, what?, at least a couple years since that happened. Will it be an Infinite Crisis on Multiple Earths? Will it be Multiple Crises on Infinite Earth? Basically, write those four words on pieces of paper, pull them out of a hat and you’ve got your title.
This idea could only suck harder if…no, my mistake: This idea could not suck harder. Unless DC plans to charge a quarter a piece for downloads, I (and, I’m guessing, a couple of million other readers) will not be swallowing its unappealing bait.
