FishbowlNY uncovered three trademark applications that Disney made in early May to claim the rights to the phrase “SEAL Team 6″ covering ”entertainment and education services,” “toys, games and playthings” and “clothing, footwear and headwear.”

Crap like this is why so much of the world hates us.
Toys, games and playthings? I almost threw up on my computer.
Fucking Disney.
Gross.
I find Disney’s getting these trademarks extremely offensive! What’s next, putting Osama in the Pirates of the Carribean?
Disgraceful. To amend for their error in judgment, Disney should give 30 percent of its gross from the Seal Team Six products to families of Seal Team Six members.
Absolutely brilliant idea. Either that or assign Iger the code name “Quimosabi” and send Seal Team Six after his sorry ass.
Whoa. That’s some imperialistic shit right there. Disney’s just parodying themselves now.
“Disgusting” doesn’t begin to cover it.
My Disney appreciation needle just moved from ‘hate’ to ‘despise’.
How does one Trademark an entity that’s owned (for lack of a better word) and financed by the US Govt.? Not to mention one that’s probably got Security issues?
Jesus these morons will try to make money off of anything.
Um…I’m pretty sure the NAVY owns the trademark on that.
Disney might file the application. Hell, it might even be granted. But the Navy can prove right of first use pretty easily, then bye-bye Disney trademark. Nice try, though. Also, given the budget shortfalls this country is facing, I really would prefer for the military to get whatever financial rewards come from the existence of that unit, toys and all.
BTW — did the 24 soldiers who executed this mission get to split the $25 million reward? Jeez, I hope so.
Shouldn’t Seal Team 6 have the trademark?
Very interesting…My initial reaction was “You can’t do that! It’s a government organization….that’s like trademarking the CIA!” …then I realized the government would have to acknowledge the existence of such organizations in order to make a stink about it. Hmmmm…..should be interesting.
The only way this makes sense is if Disney is planning on using actual seals (the animal). A team of awesome animal seals hunting terrorists? I’m in.
How despicable, Disney trying to make money off of 9/11. Every cent of profit from the sale of SEAL Team 6 items should go to the 9/11 victim families, not to mention wounded soldiers and vets. Shame on Disney and their executives, but this does not surprise me one bit.
Not just every cent of profit, but every cent of GROSS. That would mean 9/11 families are paying for expenses. Let Disney pay their own expenses for once.
This is just sick. Even from Disney, this surprises me.
I don’t think a private company can trademark a government issued title? Something tells me this will be challenged.
Hmm. Not sure you can trademark something like this. Can you trademark President of the United States? Or United Nations? I don’t think so.
Yup. Fiction. Entertainment. Fantasy. Sounds about right.
i hope they also trademarked “US Army.”
You mean, NAVY?
SEAL Team 6 Educational Toys: Learn how to kill terrorists like the pros!
Can’t wait for the Abbottabad & Costello ride at Persian Disney.
Uhhhh how is this possible? Thats like trying to,trademark “cia”. Actually isnt this trademarked underneath the government and/or the founder richard marcinko?
I can’t help but think there will be an uproar over this. The Disney Execs who thought this up might want to watch their backs; Seal Six might be coming for them soon.
“When their US Naval trainers are captured by Somali pirates, six Pacific harbor seals must set aside their personal differences in order to mount a rescue operation.”
I see the one-sheet now…
That name/term belongs to the government. The tax payers technical own that name!
