EXCLUSIVE: Disney XD, the cable network targeting boys 6-14, has handed a pilot order to Gulliver Quinn, a live-action comedy headlined by Napoleon Dynamite star Jon Heder. Written by Dan Kopelman (Malcolm In the Middle), the project centers on Gulliver Quinn (Heder), a grown man enrolled in the seventh grade after his family returns from a 15-year research expedition. Rob Schrab will direct the pilot, which is now casting the other roles. Heder and Kopelman are executive producing with veteran tween series producer Stan Rogow (Lizzie McGuire). “It’s an absolute coup for Disney XD to be working with Jon — he is a tremendous comedic talent, and Dan Kopelman’s brilliant script is the perfect project to showcase his quirky sense of humor,” said Adam Bonnett, SVP, Original Programming, Disney Channels. After living in a cave in remote northwest India where his mom and dad were making a documentary film on a rare tortoise, Gulliver grew up acquiring awesome skills such as lightning-quick reflexes and the ability to see in the dark. Now the family has come back to their suburban home, its 1996 décor, years of stacked-up mail and a 28-year-old son who needs to finally graduate seventh grade. At school, he makes a few friends, a few enemies and reunites with his childhood crush, now the school nurse.
Gulliver Quinn eyes a 2012 launch on Disney XD, which has been on a ratings upswing this year. Another hot pilot at the network is Lab Rats (formerly Billion Dollar Freshman) from That ’70s Show alums Chris Peterson, Bryan Moore and Mark Brazil. Disney XD’s latest original series, Kickin’ It, from another sitcom veteran, Jim O’Doherty, premieres June 13. Heder, repped by CAA and Mosaic, will reprise his title character from Napoleon Dynamite on Fox’s upcoming animated series adaptation.

Dan Koppelman is a class act. When he orders beer at lunch, he orders Chimay. You heard me.
Good luck to all involved, it sounds like a winner!
As a mom who has to watch Disney XD a lot, I am thrilled with some new programming! My sons love watching it and it gets a bit boring/repetitive. Plus the story sounds like a good fit for their demo and the adults that are subjected to it as well. Good luck Disney!

I’ve read this script. It’s actually REALLY funny.
Please tell me it will follow the tradition of Even Stevens, Phil of the Future, Jonas, and Lizzie McGuire by not having a laughtrack.
That is make or break. Especially on disney where laughtracks are screechy kid giggles.
Why would a grown man enroll in the 7th grade and subject himself to inevitable ridicule when he can just get his G.E.D.? I don’t think most public school systems would allow this anyway. Fail.
I have a feeling Disney and Heder could use some new undiscovered talent. I am looking forward to working with them both after my audition. Frankly, we should bypass all that red tape and get on set asap!
Adam is a genius. He is so great with creators. I’m sure he will let this flourish. He’s great. Senior VP is just a stop up the ladder for this guy.
Sounds great! All the best Jon!!!
Sounds awesome. Except the part about having a crush on the school nurse– that sounds gross.
Go, Kopes! In a world of hamburger, Dan is filet mignon.
Radler’s on fire!!!
i can really either Tiffany Thornton (from So Random), Yin Chang (from Disney’s Prom) or Ashley Tisdale (from Phinas and Ferb) Gulliver’s Childhood crush.
where did you find the script?
Where did you get the script? I’m trying to audtion for it.
I was a background on this and I had a lot of fun. Hope everyone likes it because it is awesome. Its a winner!!!
