EXCLUSIVE: After directing Easy A and the upcoming Justin Timberlake-Mila Kunis bedroom comedy Friends With Benefits for Screen Gems, Will Gluck has made a two-year development and production deal with Sony Pictures that covers TV and film and involves Screen Gems, Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Television. Gluck started his directing career at Screen Gems with Fired Up!, and after Easy A grossed north of $75 million, Screen Gems’ Clint Culpepper greenlit Friends With Benefits and bought another project to reteam Gluck with Emma Stone. Gluck is currently developing Sex On The Moon at Columbia Pictures for producers Scott Rudin, Dana Brunetti and Michael DeLuca. Gluck started out in TV as a staffer for The John Larroquette Show and was a writing producer on several other sitcoms, so it’s conceivable that TV will be an important component in a deal negotiated by UTA.
I’d heard this deal was coming weeks ago, and waited for the studio to announce it through Deadline with Sony toppers Michael Lynton and Amy Pascal, and Screen Gems president Culpepper. Pascal called Gluck “an extraordinary talent who has a unique comedic voice. He has now directed three films for us, and each one was distinctive and contemporary. He writes and directs movies that are timeless, hilarious, engaging and disarming. Michael, Clint and I have loved working with him, and this deal will allow him to channel his energy in any creative direction he hopes to pursue.”

Just watched EASY A on cable. Wow, surprisingly good.
I’m a huge fan of the under-rated FIRED UP and loved EASY A. So unbelievably glad that someone is making smart comedies with great dialogue. Can’t wait to see what he has done with FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS.
Fired Up! had me on the floor. Very underrated movie.
Reading this headline made me think of a sign that reads:
“Will Gluck for Food”
Will is a clas act – that term is overused but in this case it fits the bill. He treats everyone equally and with respect.
I know Will, I like Will, but these comments just aren’t true. He is a good guy, but doesn’t treat everyone equally and with respect. He is very specific about how he treats everyone and he treats everyone differently based on his power they hold.
Big Fan are sure you have the right Will Gluck? Doesn’t sound like the one I know!
…Except for Ted Chervin who made him what he is today.
Other than 12 yea old girls, who the fuck wants to see Timberlake acting in movies. Yes, Gluck is a talented guy, but can we address the bigger issue, it’s time to make a stand. Boycott all Timberlake movies! He almost ruined the Social Network. Enough is enough!
Shouldn’t they wait until Friends With Benefits comes out?
Presumably, they’ve seen a cut, bro.
I mean they should wait to see how well it does.
Glad to hear this, and I don’t know the guy. I stumbled on “Easy A” as an Academy screener and was impressed with its tone and subtext. We need more filmmakers who know how to direct actors instead of special effects. The writing rocked too. Let’s hear it for Nat Hawthorne (who reps him?).
…not to mention he’s so cute. Sorry, somebody had to say it.
When I hear Timberlake sing “closing Time” in that trailer i want to kill myself
I worked with Will a few years ago and witnessed first hand that he is nice and respectful to those who are also nice and respectful. If he treated you like a jerk you should probably take a nice long look in the mirror.
I’ve worked with Will and he’s great. He’s friendly to everyone and always treated me with respect (and I am by no means “powerful”).
Will is the real deal. Honest, loyal, and highly skilled. The only people who hate on him are insider, lifer, Hollywood douchebags. He’s also for my money the best jet pilot on the west coast.
I thought Gluck was an ICM client? Did he leave ICM recently. Nicole Clemens seemed to be representing him last week. Just curious if anyone knows. I think he is a great guy. Very smart and talented UTA will serve him well. To bad for ICM if he left them.
George’s rant on Timberlake sounds like something from an insecure and jealous 14 year old boy.
Dude, Justin’s demographic is 20- 40′s and it encompasses both sexes.
You are in a time warp. Time to grow up. Nsync was more than 10 years ago.
I am not even a big fan of the guy, but accuse him of ruining The Social Network.
Get out of here. He was fantastic as Sean Parker. I enjoyed his portrayal more than Andrews’ character.
And by the ways, Friends with Benefits looks really good. I think it might even be better than Easy A, which I thought was overrated. I don’t quite get the accolades heaped on Emma Stone. She is one note in that film.
