I hear Elizabeth Porter, Comedy Central’s SVP Specials & Talent, was let go on Friday. Porter worked at Comedy Central for about seven years, overseeing all aspects of talent, including identifying and developing new talent as well as developing vehicles to draw bigger-name talent to the network. She also ran specials, including the Comedy Central Roast franchise, Jamie Foxx’s Laffapalooza and Comedy Central’s Last Laugh, which she developed in 2004. Porter also oversaw Comedy Central Records, the network’s in-house record label. Porter joined Comedy Central from USA Network, where she oversaw all alternative programming and specials.

Great, solid exec who knows both mainstream, alternative, and urban comedy. Much broader exec than the Tosh 2.0 crew now running CC. Great instincts, and I hope she lands quickly…

Fabulous exec. Comedy central keeps losing great people and other than a couple exceptions their shows suck. What’s Going on over there?
In my opinion they have an indenity crisis. I think they need to go more in the direction of comedy. They need to get with everyone else and start developing their own scripted shows and they need to end The Daily Show when Jon Stewart’s contract expires.
