EXCLUSIVE: Emily Mortimer is in negotiations for the female lead in Aaron Sorkin’s HBO pilot. Tentatively titled More As This Story Develops, the project centers on cable news anchor Will McCallister (Jeff Daniels), who has his own show, as well as the show’s female executive producer, MacKenzie (Mortimer), for whom producing the news is what she does best and everything else is tied for last place. Mortimer landed the role after a series of reading. In addition to Daniels, Mortimer will also join Olivia Munn and Alison Pill, who are finalizing their deals for the project. Greg Mottola is directing the pilot, which is being executive produced by Sorkin, Scott Rudin and Alan Poul. Mortimer, repped by ICM, Independent Talent Group and Brillstein, will next be seen in Martin Scorsese’s 3D film Hugo Cabret and voices the female lead in Cars 2. She also co-starred in the hot Sundance entry Our Idiot Brother, which was picked up by The Weinstein Co.

I LOVED this show the first time I saw it, when it was called “Broadcast News”…
You nailed it Worker….this is an idea that was done in the eighties. It is the EXACT set-up of “Broadcast News” sans the cable angle.
It was even better back in the seventies when it was called “Network.” But since this is HBO, it will hopefully have some nudity.
oh you’re right…remember in the 70s, when there were 3 networks and that was it. Nothing has changed since then, so it totally makes sense, no one should ever again examine broadcast “journalism” because there was a good movie about it. 40 years ago. Off limits!

Love her. Her turn on 30 Rock as Alec Baldwin’s girlfriend afflicted with “Avian Bone Syndrome” was brilliant.
Hope Sorkin brings his A-game to this project.

Sorkin’s gonna phone this one in. He did not win an Oscar to slum it on TV even if it’s HBO. I read this script which raised suspension of disbelief to a new high. I know you kids think he is the 2nd coming and often times he may be. But there is no way this thing will be as good as you hope.

Emily Mortimer is an exquisite actress. Along with Alison Pill and Jeff Daniels, this cast is shaping up to be phenomenal. Can’t wait.

If this fails you won’t have to worry. I think people will get the picture that she can’t act. I really doubt this show will do well without a major female lead.
