There’s a hot spec script that has the town hot and bothered. I’m told that Father Daughter Time: A Tale of Armed Robbery and Eskimo Kisses has five bids on the table and a deal is expected to close by tonight. The script by Matthew Aldrich is about a man who goes on the lam with his daughter, his accomplice on a 3-state crime spree. I’m told that offers have been made by Warner Bros, Paramount, Relativity Media, Walter Parkes through his discretionary fund, and Matt Damon and Chris Moore, through a company with money raised through a private investor. CAA, Jewerl Ross and attorney Jamie Feldman are handling the sale.

Bidding with no a-list attachments? What is this, 2004?
Good thing I’ve been listening to my agent who says, “Specs are dead. If you write something at all, it has to be high-concept, tentpole.”
What magic made this logline go past the readers?
Who at CAA is handling this? This is good news for all writers. Hearing about all these deals. Everyone involved in the business would love it if we could make more original movies.
Stu Manashil reps Aldrich at CAA.
Interesting idea, probably good script and most likely will never get made in its current form.
Precocious kid teams up with parolee father with heart of gold. Crime ensues. I love the eighties.
Exaxctly right Dickmouth! Because basic human nature has undergone such a total and unexpected SHIFT over the last two decades that whatever may have appealed to audiences THEN (like a well-told crime story, let’s say) holds absolutely zero interest for them NOW.
Your observation is spot-on and not at all ridiculous. Indeed, you are the OPPOSITE of retarded!!! Keep it up!
Not only was I being cheeky, but I was actually summing up the plot of the script, which I read. Why don’t you stop being so damn sensitive, development hack/agent’s assistant with some vested interest in this property. Now, if you’d like me to be more honest, I’ll say this: the script ain’t that good. Take that to the bank, knee-jerk.
Anyone have this script? I’d love to read it!
Awesome. Love the idea and title. Congrats to the writer.
Sounds good. Y’all haters.
Again, cronyism rears its ugly head. This sparked interest for one reason – CAA is involved. If an un-agented writer sent this out as a spec it would be returned unread by every agent in town.
write a clever query letter and get yours read.
All you have to do to get repped at CAA (or WME, or wherever) is write an amazing script. It’s that simple and that difficult. If you show an amazing script to a few low level people in the business (even assistants), they’ll beg you to let them pass it to their friends and bosses, and in a month you’ll be signed and taking meetings. A truly great piece of material is like water in the desert. They’ll come to you.
It’s a take on Three Fugitives and A Perfect World.
But none of the execs or reps have seen either of those films. Winning.
A Perfect World isn’t an obscure reference… nice try.
Jamie’s the man.
I was thinking Perfect World, too. Costner was hot in that. How old is the girl supposed to be? Hailey Steinfeld old?
Another entry into the emerging weird subgenre of twisted father figure matched with hyper-violent oddly sexualized adolescent girl (“Hanna,” “Kick Ass,” “Sucker Punch”) etc…etc…
I want to have sex w this spec
Paper Moon. A great and classic film. Many specs have tried to recapture that magic. Did this spec capture that magic or is this a case of great marketing?
Sounds interesting but i have a question…what genre is this? is it a comedy or is this similar to road to perdition?
So who got it? And for how much?
Paper Moon, anyone ?
Paper Moon, never heard of it.
Actually it sounds more like an updated Paper Moon…
But either way, I’m surprised no one has commented on how anyone deals with Jewerl Ross. One of the biggest douche managers around. It’s amazing how he keeps his clients and keeps making sales..I guess never picking up a check pays off.
what genre is it? makes me think of road to perdition
