Right after NBC, it is Fox’s presenting its fall schedule tomorrow. After making some major scheduling moves last year with shifting American Idol to Wednesdays and Thursdays and launching a Glee-anchored comedy block on Tuesdays, the network is expected to bet on stability this year, especially after both gambles this season largely paid off. Idol is expected to keep its Wednesday-Thursday airing pattern, which would be mirrored in the fall by The X Factor, whose 90-minute Wednesday show will probably be used to launch a new comedy the way American Idol has done it.
I hear the most anticipated new Fox series, prehistoric drama Terra Nova, which had been rumored to launch either on Monday or Thursday, looks Monday-bound. Conventional wisdom has it that Fox should use a reliable performer like House to launch its highest-profile new series, and that has been the scenario most speculated about. But Terra Nova has tested great as a four-quadrant show with a very broad appeal, so I won’t be surprised if Fox decides to make a switch and put Terra Nova at 8 PM to capture the family audience. Terra Nova doesn’t really need a lead-in — after all, it’s a Steven Spielberg-produced show with dinosaurs — so it could be a self-starter like Glee proved to be this season. And House is probably better suited for 9 PM.
Speaking of Glee, it is expected to once again lead off the Tuesday comedy lineup, followed by two comedies, probably New Girl and Raising Hope as both are edgy single-camera half-hours, but Fox may also want to create a family comedy block with Hope and the multi-camera I Hate My Teenage Daughter. The new comedy that doesn’t join Fox’s comedy block will probably go after X Factor.
After numerous scheduling moves, I think utility player Bones will probably stay status quo on Thursdays, alternating with spinoff Finder. And Fringe is expected to stay on Fridays, setting up a genre show face-off with NBC’s freshman Grimm.
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

I hope they pair Raising Hope and The New Girl together.
Fringe and Grimm may be in a “genre face=off” but the two shows will have significantly different storylines.Grimm will be a fantasy based show,Fring a science fiction based show.Ultimately I suspect most viewers will prefer one over the other instead of seeing it as a face=off.I personally will stick with Fringe,a television masterpeice, and if I feel drawn to Grimm there’s always DVR.
I don’t watch Fringe, so I’m going with Grimm.I was interested when I first heard about the series.
The creator is David Greenwalt, who went from co-executive producer to executive producer during Buffy’s first 3 seasons and he was the co-creator of Angel, as well as the showrunner for it’s first 3 seasons.
He also created Profit, one of my favorite “Brilliant But Cancelled” series.
I already watch Supernatural in that same timeslot, so I’ll be DVRing those 2.
Neither show will survive next season. I think Grimm will last six episodes at most, and Fringe will limp through thirteen and then get a mercy killing. With its awful ratings, it should already be dead.
So Alcatraz will also go to Fridays?
Is Alcatraz midseason bound then or will FOX take the risk of launching it on Friday?
If I were fox, i would put glee on Thursdays after x factor and put bones which doesn’t need a lead in on tuesdays. Glee needs a boost from idol.
Why would you do that? Bones does not fit with comedies. Glee at least has a lot of comedic elements, and skews a really young audience that fits with a comedy block.
“bones which doesn’t need a lead in on tuesdays” oh and glee needs one?? realy??
obs, where’s my early comment? Was I censored?
Glee is losing its audience and bones is not benefiting from the xfactor/idol lead in. Glee can do much better. It used to get a demo in the 5′s now, it’s in the high 3′s.
Oh and Glee matches with the comedies? have they been taking advantage of the lead in????
Alcatraz?
Saw Terra Nova. Kicked big bootay.
Settlement in the far past has — hair salon, disco-tech and even a swimming pool in the Caboose.
Can’t wait for Ep with guest star Dick Van Dyke.
Don’t forget Supernatural on Fridays. It will be 3 genre shows at 9pm.
I don’t care at all where FOX places “Fringe”. Its 3rd season was so amazing I will follow it anywhere for season 4. I am just so thankful FOX renewed it.
It would be nice, however, if FOX were to move “House” to 9pm. Indeed, why not put “Terra Nova” at 8pm?
surprise fox is considering tera nova for monday given what fox does to sci fi shows sooner or later. wonder how long before tera nova is in the death slot
Why does every network want to make Mondays the toughest night — they put all their best programs — as if there are no other nights.
TOUCH is midseason bound, since it hasn’t filmed yet.
PLus Seal 6 Show isn’t completey dead yet, being retooled.
I dont see BONES getting Thursday plum spot again.
It would be wise to launch new shows FINDER or ALCATRAZ there.
that’s good for me
“a Steven Spielberg-produced show with dinosaurs — so it could be a self-starter”
That’s exceptionally generous. Even though I’ve seen zilch of “Terra Nova” his ventures into TV have either been commercial or largely critical failures.
A better line is, “Steven Spielberg Presents a Steaming Pile of Crap.”
Terra Nova will be canceled by Thanksgiving.
