History has greenlighted The Bible, a five-part, 10-hour docudrama series from Survivor executive producer Mark Burnett to air in 2013. The Bible will tell some of the best-known stories from the most popular book in human history, from Noah’s Ark and the Exodus to Daniel in the Lion’s Den to the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. It is set to film on location and will combine live action and state-of-the-art CGI. “This series will bring the historical stories of The
Bible to life for a new generation,” History president and general manager Nancy Dubuc said.
Burnett, who said he had been working on the project for the past two years, is executive producing the series with his wife, former Touched By an Angel star Roma Downey, and Richard Bedser. Lightworkers Media and Hearst Entertainment & Syndication are producing.

This should rival “Pirates of the Caribbean” for fictional stories.
No, The Bible has compelling characters and well-structured stories.
Careful, you are speaking about the faith of hundreds of millions of people, who completely believe the Bible Let me phrase it this way. If I, and they are wrong we have lost nothing. We have had faith during hard times, had comfort, strength and endurance to live life better and have a set a morals in a world gone mad. We have experienced answered prayers, miracles in fact.
If you are wrong you have lost everything, for all eternity. The life you are living now is the shortest thing you will ever do. Think about it before you slam others religions.
Pascel’s wager?
Think about it. You have lost all this time praying and believing (possibly giving money) to something that could be wrong. The fact that you accept miracles and answered prayers shows me you also have been harmed in the critical thinking department. Secular morality and life provides everything you would need, and I would argue it’s superior.
Anyways the point is in this case you don’t have two options. It isn’t believe or don’t. You could be wrong about what God to worship. You may going to Muslim hell. Perhaps Hinduism is the right religion? Maybe none of the known religions are correct. Perhaps there is a God, but no afterlife.
The shortest thing I will ever do? I showered this morning – that only took 10 minutes.

Oh, how comical and ignorant are the uneducated Internet generation.
The Bible, from the Creator of Survivor! Only in America!
Jesus gets voted off the island in episode 8.
Maybe the Rapture just started
It’s a great idea. I’m not in the business, but if I was, I’d have been pushing for this and similar projects as well. They have a huge built-in audience, foreign appeal, and secularists should be able to appreciate the stories for the historical influence of them.
This is good stuff. I’ll be watching it. Hope they bring historical perspectives and accuracy.
This proposed film project ends with skeletor Canning taking random stabs in the dark at what the date of the Rapture is, then saying his predicted date in hindsight is ” ” actually ” ” [yes, double air quotes] a spiritual occurrence and the real date is coming soon, once he yanks the toilet paper to wipe and predict it from the results – correct? – or is there a better ending than that? Like Canning suing anyone who mocks his idiocy?
Has Burnett gone all god-botherer lately? It certainly would explain the last season of Survivor.
This will only work if they splice Edward G. Robinson’s Dathan into the Exodus story.
The capper of this story is that the pic of Burnett shows him front of an OWN logo. That’s fine because we know the networks and programming execs actually all love each other. They’re all family.
Good idea! At its worst, the Bible is just filled with morality plays. At its best, these stories are truth (which is what I believe). Regardless of your opinions, it will make some interesting entertainment.
Sounds pretty awesome! I give them an A for effort but knowing Hollywood they won’t read the scriptures in context and stories could be changed accordingly to what will make a “better” story, bit we’ll see. God managed to keep his Word from withstanding the ages an preserving, let’s see how it is represented on television.
Wow! From these comments it would appear that Hollywood has more people of faith
than I thought. Too bad their faith has them working in a business that doesn’t value it
much.
Doubtful. Hollywood’s all about defiling young women/men, making tons of money and achieving personal glory.
That’s like when MTV stopped playing music, or when ESPN started showing poker. Big hits that have nothing to do with the channels original purpose. It’ll be huge! And people will start to be suspicious of the facts in all of History Channel’s other shows. My opinion: this is bad for America.
We all know Hitler Channel’s audience are a bunch of blindly patriotic god-fearing rubes. So this is not surprising at all. Makes total sense.
History Channel began selling out years ago, but this is a new low for them. Maybe they can follow up with a four parter explaining why the Earth really is flat and that the entire solar system revolves around it. It’s bad enough that the nation is exposed to christian idiocy on a regular basis in all forms of media, but it’s inexcusable when a network that is supposedly dedicated to a field of science puts on their propaganda.
