EXCLUSIVE: Holly Hunter has signed a deal to star in Still I Rise, joining Viola Davis and Maggie Gyllenhaal in the Daniel Barnz-directed drama about the campaign by a teacher and mother to transform a quality of education in a Pittsburgh inner-city public school. Hunter will play the head of the teachers union. Barnz recently rewrote the Brin Hill screenplay. Mark Johnson is producing through his Gran Via Productions banner. The film will be distributed domestically by 20th Century Fox.
At the same time, Hunter is in negotiations to star alongside Hailee Steinfeld in Romeo and Juliet, a Julian Fellowes-scripted version of the classic tale, directed by Carlo Carlei. Fellowes will produce with Gabriele Muccino, Ileen Maisel and Mark Ordesky. The Oscar-winning actress has most recently earned two Emmy noms for her work in the TNT drama Saving Grace. She’s repped by ICM and Management 360, while True Grit’s Steinfeld is repped by ICM.

Please God tell me she isn’t playing Juliet…..the Nurse? I hope….of course if Glenn Close can play a young 21 year old Nellie ( at 50plus) in South pacific…i am sure there is plenty of gauze left in Tinseltown to shot her through.

There are a very few actors I would cast in anything of mine they’d like to play. Holly Hunter is one of ‘em.

Can we please stop mentioning that the directors are re-writing these scripts? Most of the time, they screw it up. Film may be a director’s medium, and even though many write and direct, the director comes on for a few months and points the camera, doesn’t even handle it, while the writer slaves away, often for a year or two if it’s an original script.
Stop mentioning that it was re-written. No one talks about how the writer had to dodge and weave everyone else’s inane ideas along the way.
Completely agree. Shows disrespect and complete disregard for the arduous work done by writers.
If Hailee Steinfeld is Juliet, cast Diego Boneta as Romeo and I think the project will have more international appeal…!
Re-writing…some times that is the case however with this script, Daniel Barnz did come on board and re-write the ENTIRE script from Page 1. The script bares no resemblance to it’s original…which was not good! The new script which got three amazing actors attached is beautiful and moving.
I can think of a few school district’s around the Pittsburgh area that suck royally, or suckED royally at one time. Amazing that anyone with a creative mind could survive in some of those shitholes.
Holly Huner is probably my favorie acress. She is a very unique acress. She and her Boyfriend Gordon are also very nice people. I met them both when they came into my art studio this past summer. I have met many actors, sports figures etc. when I lived in New York and most of them were really nice people but they were Nicer yet. Real down to earth. Glad she is getting new acting jobs.
