Looks like a perfectly acceptable…kid’s film. I mean really, this is a cartoon.
You’re a dumbass. This is going to be a badass movie.
I didn’t know this was an animated movie…
Yeah… rather corny, slight, B-movie feel to the whole thing.
Did Ryan Reynold’s testicles ever drop? Each time he says “Green Lanterns Light”, or I should say tries to say that phrase, in a manly, super hero voice, I just cringe with embarrassment. Amazing spfx houses abound and yet the director choose not to augment Reynolds voice for that one phrase?
Same here. I want to laugh every time I hear that phrase. It’s such embarrassment that I want to take sound off until he will finish it. What the hell were they thinking? And they repeat and repeat it in every trailer.
How exactly does a grown man say “Green Lanterns Light!” and not come off sounding like a numbnut?
I’m sold. Looks fun.
this trailer makes the movie look much better…
awful. just awful. looks like the first superman.
The whole look of this movie just seems weird – probably looked great in production sketches but then it didn’t translate well on screen.
1 – This trailer is not 3D. Please stop calling these things 3D.
2 – This film still looks like garbage. As an animated movie, sure, it’s passable. As a live action flick, it looks like it’ll rival The Day The Earth Stood Still as the worst modern use of CGI.
I just hope that WB learns from how awful this one looks, aesthetically, when producing the new Superman flick. Just say no to CGI Supes!
“Blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah….blah blah blah….”
That is ONE ugly looking movie! Looks like a cheap video game. Can’t tell where to look, can’t tell what anything is, and Ryan Reynold’s smirk undoes him as a serious lead. Stinker.
Can’t tell what anything is? They explain to you what everything is, and it’s a 2 and a half minutes clip out of a 120+ minute movie so how are you going to know what to look at. I was skeptical of Reynolds’ dramatic ability as well until I saw Buried.
This trailer seems tailor made for people who aren’t familiar with the comics or the history of the character who might be interested in seeing it. If you don’t/can’t learn you don’t need to watch it but it doesn’t need to be trashed.
This movie looks better and better with each new trailer! I’m sold.
Best of the Green Lantern trailers in that it attempts to explain the GL mythology to the mainstream moviegoer (this would be Cliffs Notes for fanboys). In fact I liked the trailer up until Ryan Reynolds appeared and took me out of the mythology. I agree his reading of the GL oath (“Green Lantern’s light!”) is corny and cringe-worthy; should re-record. Still think the costume looks suspect (esp the mask) but I’m hoping for a brightest day scenario.
This is going to be the one superhero film this summer that fails to find an audience. Just doesn’t look good at all.
Nice to hear Geoffrey Rush’s voice…. & that’s about it.
WTLivingF is this? It’s not even decent CGI. Backstory? Mythology? Really? It’s a cartoon; cartoon acting, cartoon FX and cartoon dialogue. I would say that kids would like it, but they have no idea, nor interest, in some ridiculous comic book character from 50 years ago. And this trailer makes the entire story look even more ridiculous. Didn’t the Power Rangers have rings too? Yeah – like that.
Scott (above) got it right: “Looks like a cheap video game.” The kind in an arcade in 1989, where you have to pay a quarter.
So the ring chose Van Wilder?
Studios feel that they have to make movies based on IPs…..but when then have to make a trailer that explains the IP in voice over….doesn’t that defeat the purpose of making a movie based on the IP?
Awesome! It looks epic, fun, and finally a movie that takes advantage of 3D.
Everytime a new clip comes out, the effects get better and better.
“We are the Corp”…. Can’t wait!!!
Maybe that should be “we are the corpse” because this trailer makes the flick appear DOA.
Please someone get the idea and stop these 3D movies, why can’t the studio’s figure this out: not every movie has to be 3d!
This looks…utterly stupid.
Ryan Reynolds is no superhero or action lead. He is smirky and fratboy funny and a terrible miscast unless this is meant to be a comedy. Even C-list action guy like Paul Walker would have been a better choice. At least he could deliver the lines with a straight face.
Haha, the first article I read on deadline today is the VFX Eric Roth article and then I see this trailer.
It’s kind of sad when movies from 3 years ago have better CGI than this.
However, the movie looks decent. The teaser was good, but it has just gotten worse with the previews and this trailer. I will spend $11 to watch this movie but this trailer definitely didn’t help.
I saw this coming attraction in 3D right before Pirates 4. It has much better 3D than Pirates 4. And Martin Campbell can be trusted to deliver something interesting and entertaining.
Are they just going to keep pumping out trailers until they land on one that creates a desire to see this movie? Keep trying. You got a ways to go. It goes from bad to worse each time. Mind boggling.
Amen. This is, what, the 4th Green Lantern trailer posted on Deadline?
This looks like those moments in the Star Wars prequels when there’s too much going on in the frame with all the CGI, and not enough actual live action to be interesting.
The heaping of cod mythology on top of cod mythology does nothing to sell the film – as an audience we’ll buy this stuff if the story leads us into it from a grounded reality, but this just reinforces mainstream prejudices about fanboy values.
I’m willing to believe that this is a better movie than the trailers make it look, for 2 reasons; Martin Campbell is a good storyteller and the comics show us a much more balanced world. The FX here look like every other CG lightshow that we’ve been taking for granted since the BACK TO THE FUTURE ride opened.
Make a GL trailer with less than 20% CG in it and we’ll have a chance to commit.
I like Ryan Reynolds but this just looks terrible… really, really, really bad!
