  • How the mighty have fallen. This looks god-awful.

    • The mighty? Perhaps you forgot where Carey got his Movie Lead start… Ace Ventura Pet Detective!

Looks funnier than Zookeeper, but that is a pretty low bar.

      • I meant in terms of box office draw. But your point is well taken.

  • I like the way there’s a dolly move in the security camera footage. I can tell the director really prepared well… and cares.

  • If the trailer usually has the best stuff to grab the audience attention…this trailer has failed miserably.

    DOA

  • I’m sure every bitter poster will hate on this creatively (seems like they recycled the Liar Liar set-up even), but unfortunately, you’re not the target audience. Kids love penguins, and Jim Carrey still has enough street cred left for their parents to go too. should do very well.

    • As I parent, I disagree.

  • I like penguins.

  • excellent point about the security camera dolly move! But you have to admire Jim Carrey for putting and effort in this, and it looks like he’s pulling it off

Comment by George — Tuesday May 24, 2011 @ 4:52pm PDT  Reply to this post
  • I cannot believe that Oren Aviv and Tony Sella thought this was a good trailer. The story is a mess, there no jokes – just a few prat falls, and there are no quintessential Jim Carrey moments to remind parents why they might actually enjoy taking their kids to see this. And yes, of course the penguins will get family audiences interested, but come on, this looks the marketing guys didn’t even try. For two of the top guys in theatrical marketing, I’m really baffled by this terrible trailer.

  • Dear Fox,

Please try investing more than two dollars into your trailers. It kinda helps the movie sell better.

    Sincerely,
Person With Two Eyes Who Just Saw Your Trailer

  • Trailer is fine and actually good in parts but why does he have to keep the penguins? This trailer is still a little confusing.

Comment by Mr. B — Tuesday May 24, 2011 @ 5:09pm PDT  Reply to this post
  • I really want to dislike this movie based solely on the concept but something tells me this might actually be a good family-film.

Comment by bd — Tuesday May 24, 2011 @ 5:36pm PDT  Reply to this post
  • What a bunch of cynics. The trailer probably just told the whole plot but it still looks like fun. Cute!! (& who doesn’t like penguins?)

Comment by vf — Tuesday May 24, 2011 @ 6:38pm PDT  Reply to this post
  • can we all agree that this picture kind of looks like he just had sex with a bunch of penguins?

  • The kids will love this, who cares what most of us think.

Comment by Krazijoe — Wednesday May 25, 2011 @ 4:39am PDT  Reply to this post
  • Looks perfect for summer family fun. Thought the trailer was funny.

Comment by Maryland — Wednesday May 25, 2011 @ 9:26am PDT  Reply to this post
  • Wow, talk about cynicism. You folks are a bunch of negative old humbugs.

And it’s the same on practically every other trailer story. Do any of you commenters actually work in film or has this site become just another place for the angry, bitter trolls that frequent the geek sites like ainitcoolnews?

This movie may not look groundbreaking but the trailer was cute and made me chuckle. It’s reminscent of classic Carrey (Jim balancing antics with mushy heart a la “Liar, Liar” and “Bruce Almighty”). I’ll be surprised if this doesn’t do well.

As for you people spouting humbug at every forthcoming movie, thank god you’re not the target audience or all we’d be getting would be angry, self-absorbed movies about conspiracies and how America has gone to the dogs. Here’s a wake-up call for all of you, we’re in a time now where two thirds of revenue comes from overseas.
