Sony Pictures has issued a trailer for Colombiana, which stars Avatar’s Zoe Saldana as a stone-cold assassin. It’s directed by Olivier Megaton, whom Deadline was the first to tell you would be directing Liam Neeson in Taken 2. The pic is written by the Taken team of Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen.

This looks awesome.
Wow. That is all.
Why didn’t they show Callum Blue?
Michael Vartan is partly Armenian. A lot of people don’t know that.
Who cares if he is part Armenian? That’s nice and all but how is relevant to anything?
She’s too skinny, not believable as a butt kicker. She’s beautiful and talented though, just not “tough” enough to make this sort of thing work. The emotional side of this looks good but the action is nothing we haven’t seen before…..
Yeah, they should have gotten that beefy, muscular chick who starred in WANTED.
And SALT! Ha!
AJ is the ONLY skinny chick who could have pulled this off. Zoe is cute but she’s not pulling this off.
Looks great!
Besson is a BAMF. Vartan totally mis-cast. Saldana looks good. This picture does look exciting, love everything Besson does. Very smart film maker.
Edit out every frame of Vartan and I’m sold.
Michael Vartan? WHY?
Every film Besson does or every film he makes with Robert Mark Kamen co-writing?
Hell hath no fury……
Looks sick. I’ll definitely watch this. I agree with the comment that Zoe is too thin for this. She can muster up revenge in her eyes very convincingly. And, once someone has that look about them, they’re hard to stop. So I think she’ll be totally believalbe.
This will be for one of those nights where me and my girls go out for ladies night out, sneak a bottle of Chard into the theatre, and have fun.
I meant to say that I “don’t” agree with the comment that Zoe is too thin.
Zoe Saldana is amazing
YAY, ZOE!!!
I’m in. I love Zoe. So she’s skinny. Don’t forget how tough Anne Parillaud (a veritable toothpick) was in Besson’s La Femme Nikita, the flick that introduced American audiences to him (those who hadn’t seen The Big Blue, anyway).
Zoe looks great, can act and she has an edge.
Trailer borrows a lot from Besson’s earlier films Le Femme Nikita and Leon the Professional. Both films (especially Nikita) have been borrowed from or remade enough times that I hope there’s something new here.
I forget – where did she come from?
Oh yeah. Every other movie that looks like this. Boring.
LOTS of chick assassin movies coming out these days (sucker punch/hanna). Seems like the peeps behind this all wrote the book on this specific genre, but there is really only a “Man on Fire” meets “La Femme Nikita” going on here. Nothing more.
Rental/Cable is all I can do with this one.
Just because a woman is thin doesn’t mean that she isn’t strong or deadly. A woman fighter would compensate for having lesser strength against a male opponent through her style of martial arts, cunning, and weaponry. The trailer shows Saldana using lots of guns.
Oh! Forgot to say, hooray for Zoe Saldana!
And, it’s nice to see Michael Vartan in a movie. I hope this film gives his career a good boost.
Oh snappie snap! Yes!
I’m very optimistic when it come to television, but with movies i don’t know. When a movie tell you the plot in it trailer you usually aren’t going get much depth when it comes to story. Then again Taken was pretty good ACTION movie. Seeing how American Directors can not only make good ACTION and HORROR movies anymore.
I’m all for This film.
Uh, am I missing something? This trailer is really boring and poorly edited. Saldana is not a proven opener. I would predict a #2 or #3 opening based solely on the “Taken” connection , which will be good depending on what it is going up against in September. This will be a good earner because it doesn’t look like the production got out of hand and therefor have some sort of sequel, but come on people, this doesn’t look at all original or interesting. If the most gripping line you can pull for the trailer is “Never forget where you came from…” and you have to use it 3 plus times. I’m just saying that you can add plot and story to the list of things that look too thin.
It is so nice to see a Black woman kick ass in a movie that doesn’t look cheesy.
She is a Latina and as I recall they call themselves Brown women. Respect.
Zoe Saldana is NOT BLACK. She is half Puerto Rican, half Dominican. You people crack me up.

@guess what
Puerto Rican (or Dominican) and Black are not mutually exclusive categories any more than American and Black are – the former are nationalities, the latter, ethnicities.
From Zoe’s imbd page: “When I go to the D.R., the press in Santo Domingo always asks, “¿Qué te consideras, dominicana o americana?” (What do you consider yourself, Dominican or American?) I don’t understand it, and it’s the same people asking the same question. So I say, time and time again, “Yo soy una mujer negra.” (“I am a black woman.”) [They go,] “Oh, no, tú eres trigueñita.” (“Oh no, you are ‘dark skinned’”) I’m like, “No! Let’s get it straight, yo soy una mujer negra.” (“I am a black woman.”)”
ya, we get it.. never forget whee you came from..
Zoe is HOT! but Film looks like a ridiculous RE-retread of things we have seen before – LA FEMME, POINT OF NO RETURN (retread), HANNA (WAY better cast and director), SUCKERPUNCH, BOURNE (different league), etc. direct to video in the theaters again. I’m surprised CUBA GOODING JR. didn’t find a role in this turd.
I agree this is not only FROM the creators of NIKITA and THE PROFESSIONAL, but appears to be an amalgamation of the two!
Still looks awesome, though.
Looks good, but if it’s PG-13 or cut down to PG-13 like Taken – no sale. What the hell happened to big-budget R-rated action movies? What happened to my Con Air/The Rock/Face-Off/Broken Arrow?
Is featuring every major action star alive the only way to greenlight a big-budget R-rated actioner, ala Expendables? Is that the ONLY way???? I’m starting to think it is.
Live PG or Die R.
I think Zoe has amazed audiences with her roles. Years ago when she wasn’t as big a star I remember saying to myself that I liked her and knew she had potential. It’s satisfying to see her gaining major success. Viva La Zoe!
There’s something I was supposed to remember…seems like a straight up revenge flick with hot chick (and yes, a bit thin looking) kicking butt. OK, but I kept hoping for some kind of twist to elevate it beyond the genre, even a little, but even though the music got louder and more ominous, the plot stayed level.
I can’t even recall the freakin’ annoying tag line, but I remember it didn’t make any sense.
Elfrunner, I agree, totally! I thought I was the only one who noticed the music. It was great music for La Femme Nikita (FRENCH version) because there was actually character development and an escalating plot there. Loud music does not a good trailer make. Luv Zoe and luv Luc. I hope there’s more story involved or I will be sorely disappointed that they wasted the introduction of an Afro-Hispanic female, lead for this…
