FilmDistrict has released a full-length trailer for Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, the remake of the creepy 1973 telepic made at a time when ABC was cranking out the scares with such films as Bad Ronald and Trilogy of Terror. Troy Nixey directed it and Guillermo del Toro produced with Mark Johnson. Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce and Bailee Madison star. The film will close the Los Angeles Film Festival and opens wide in theaters Aug. 26.

Wasn’t Katie Holmes in Batman Begins, then she turned down her same role in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight? Now she’s in this? Great career move Katie, great move.
Yeah, she turned it down…yeah sure. I believe another way of saying that is she was allowed to save face.
She totally saved face by doing Mad Money instead.
Ray, is that white stuff dripping from your lips sarcasm or were in Tom’s trailer on the set of rock of ages?
I’ve been to two screenings of this and the film and toms stepford wife are fantastic
It’s del Toro! It’s not going to be bad.
That’s what I thought. Sadly no. The twist in this is dumb, so very dumb.
Nick Nunziata of CHUD.com produced this film! Go Nick! Go CHUD!! One of the most talented producers around. A real up-and-comer who discovered this director.
Looks great…can’t wait!!
oh no, a little girl in a bubble bath – danger, scary, oh no!
Looks like there is some potential here, but that trailer just isn’t working. They should take another crack at it with a new trailer house. Too many “Sallys” in there too. Who cares what her name is. Just comes off as annoying and unnecessary.
The trailer could definitely be better. I read the script and it was really good! (Yes, I do read a lot of material.) From this it looks like they nailed the atmosphere. The editing of the trailer is just trying so hard to be jarring that it doesn’t work. Probably would’ve been more effective to show a portion of one of the early creepy scenes and trim the length by about half.
I like Bailee Madison, but I think she’s too good of an actress for her age. Kinda comes off as creepy, like when Dakota was trying to play someone her own age.
I don’t know how this will turn out, but the original is great. It was a low-budget TV movie, so there’s no special effects or anything, just shadows. It’s the kind of movie that if you stumble across it on TV late at night when you’re a kid, it will scare you to pieces and scar you for life. I speak from experience.
Umh… just no, sorry.
Was I supposed to laugh?
wow could katie holmes be any more stiff ?
I couldnt even take 30 seconds of her
btw hollywood, Practical SFX look much more frightening than some tired CGI
Katie Homes has totally lost her sex appeal.
It might be the scariest movie ever made, but the trailer was so friggin’ dark… who could even tell?
I would like to see more in the light of Rob Zombie..
