DONE DEAL: Ashton Kutcher New Star Of ‘Two & A Half Men’ Replacing Charlie Sheen
CBS and Warner Bros. Television announced today that Ashton Kutcher will join the cast of the hit comedy, TWO AND A HALF MEN.
The multi-talented Kutcher, whose success spans film, television and social media, will join Jon Cryer, Angus T. Jones, Holland Taylor, Marin Hinkle and Conchata Ferrell on the top-rated series. Production on the ninth season of the Emmy Award-nominated TWO AND A HALF MEN will begin this summer for broadcast on the CBS Television Network in the fall.
“I can’t wait to get to work with this ridiculously talented 2.5 team and I believe we can fill the stage with laughter that will echo in viewers’ homes,” said Kutcher. “I can’t replace Charlie Sheen but I’m going to work my ass off to entertain the hell out of people!”
“We are so lucky to have someone as talented, joyful and just plain remarkable as Ashton joining our family,” said Chuck Lorre, creator and executive producer of TWO AND A HALF MEN. “Added to that is the deep sigh of relief knowing that our family stays together. If I was any happier, it’d be illegal.”
“Ashton is a pop culture triple threat—film star, cutting-edge producer and a social media pioneer,” said Nina Tassler, President, CBS Entertainment. “He brings creativity, energy and personality to everything he touches. We are thrilled to have him, and excited beyond words for what he brings to the next season of TWO AND A HALF MEN.”
“Ashton Kutcher brings a new and distinctive comedic flavor to ‘Two and a Half Men,’” said Peter Roth, President, Warner Bros. Television. “He is a big-time talent whose unique style will blend seamlessly with Jon Cryer, Angus T. Jones and the rest of this terrific ensemble. We look forward to a great future for this revamped and reenergized show, helmed as always by the extraordinary Chuck Lorre, whose creative skills and consummate professionalism make him the best in the business.”
Ashton Kutcher is an actor/producer and co-founder of Katalyst, a new breed of media company that creates original digital media, television and film properties. Katalyst film credits include The Butterfly Effect, Guess Who, Spread and Killers. For television, Kutcher has served as co-creator and producer of MTV’s hit series Punk’d, and The CW’s reality series Beauty and the Geek and True Beauty.
Kutcher first gained recognition as Michael Kelso on the Fox/Carsey Werner hit comedy series, “That 70′s Show,” which aired for eight seasons. Kutcher went on to star in a variety of box office hits on the big screen, including What Happens In Vegas with Cameron Diaz, A Lot Like Love with Amanda Peet, Valentine’s Day, No Strings Attached with Natalie Portman, The Guardian with Kevin Costner, and the cult hit, Dude, Where’s My Car. Kutcher stars next in Garry Marshall’s film, New Year’s Eve, out in December 2011.
TWO AND A HALF MEN is produced by Chuck Lorre Productions, Inc. and The Tannenbaum Company in association with Warner Bros. Television. Chuck Lorre and Lee Aronsohn are the series’ creators.

I honestly CAN’T WAIT to hear what Charlie Sheen says about this! Duh…
#Fail
#GENIUS
And so endeth the lesson, Charlie.
I’m interested to see how they do the transition, but it sounds like a good fit. Kutcher brings a solid fan base & great comic timing, both if which are needed @ this critical point.
James, Ashton doesn’t have great comedic timing.
Any idea the cost savings per episode with Ashton versus Charlie?
I hope that they finally cancel this series. I am bored of it. Charlie Sheen had such a promising career and I am so disappointed to see the direction that his life and career has gone. He has done some great movies in his time such as Wall Street (1987), The Three Musketeers (1993), The Arrival (1996), Shadow Conspiracy (1997), Postmortem (1998), etc. I always wanted him to just do mainstream movies, particularly serious films and dramas, try to reach his full potential as an actor, join the A-list and try to win an Oscar. But now I have just given up on him. He hasn’t surpassed his father, Martin Sheen who still gets better roles and does bigger movies and he has become the laughing stock of Hollywood.
America disagrees with you about “Two and a Half Men,” ivory tower intellectual elitist snob who hates ordinary people who work for a living.
Is hating “Two and a Half Men” all it takes to be an ivory tower intellectual elitist snob who hates ordinary people who work for a living? I figured there would at least be a secret handshake.
He’s on TV. He’s doing comedy. Get over it.
Moses, most of the film choices you listed are not great films.
Charlie Sheen: you’ve been punk’d, boyyy!
What a horrible mistake! Ashton Kutcher has no discernable talent. Chuck Lorre is a moron for screwing up an otherwise entertaining show! As usual the people in Hollywood don’t have a clue!
Kudos to CBS and WB for sticking to their decision to move on, and if necessary…pay off Charlie…and get rid of him. I doubted they would do so…so congrats.
Ashton’s part will be well crafted to satisfy the 2.5 Men audience.
Most importantly, except for the contract actions to be resolved…Charlie’s extended ‘fifteen minutes’ are finally winding down…and, soon another Hollywood story dealing with Star behavior will take his place
Thank you CBS and WB,
If it gets him off those idiot camera commercials, because then I won’t have to suffer him at all.
Since when has Kutcher counted as a full man?
“The multi-talented Kutcher”? Not hardly. This guy does one thing good: playing the dumb goofball. I don’t see how he’ll fit into Two and a Half Men.
From the way Chuck is talking, it sounds less like he found a new Charlie and more like he found a new Dharma. Well, that should be an interesting take on 2.5 Men!
does anyone know what kind of role/transition kutcher is going to bring to this show? the missing kid? the cousin? the neighbor?
I’ve 180′d. I hope A.K. is a big hit and the show goes on for several more years.
Wow, losing.
“I’m going to work my ass off to entertain the hell out of people!”
You mean you’re now going to replace Sheen as Chuck Lorre’s bitch. Have fun.
Let’s take bets on how long before Kutcher has a breakdown….
Kutcher is, above all else, a smart businessman. He won’t look this gift horse in the mouth the way Sheen has.
I actually didn’t care about this show but thought that sheen should go back given its such a cash cow, but now with ashton — i can’t tell you how excited I am to watch the show full time now. He is a great and funny actor and can only add more life to this show.
ok………..enough crap from all angles. The same type of worthless worry about this show’s success reminds me of Idol when the new judges were cast. EVERYBODY is replacable, do you people get it yet?? I don’t care who the hell you are in this world, you can and will be replaced. END OF STORY
Lets wait and see…
Absolutely. A case in point is when back in the 80′s, Bo and Luke Dude were replaced by their cousins Coy and Vance in the Dukes of Hazard. That worked out well didn’t it?
I for one can say replacing Sheen with Kutcher will have no bearing on how I feel about the show. I never really cared to watch it then and I’ll continue to not watch it now. But for those of you who like the show, I hope it works out.
No one is replaceable you can refill the spot but everyone brings something unique and interesting to the table. Kutcher’s unique qualities is probably the best possible choice to bring this thing back to life.
How do you go from Hugh Grant to Aston Kutcher? Ugh. I find Kutcher unwatchable.
Not sure he qualifies as an A-lister as was mentioned when Hugh Grant was in talks, but he definitely brings a new twist to the show. I thought he was great on That 70s Show, forever playing the doofus to his whip-smart co-stars. I see him fitting in quite well, and watching Ashton chase pert little 20-somethings will be a lot less creepy than watching Sheen do it…unless you’re Demi I suppose.
Awesome! Can’t wait! Ashton and Angus together will be awesome…
I think Kutcher is a terrible actor, not funny and not entertaining on a sitcom…however…I think he will be perfect for the show/the show’s audience.
Kutcher is smart to do this as his film career is non-existent and the spotlight it affords with renew his chances. How long before the inevitable Demi cameo?
Sorry Charlie, but you were always replaceable. Here’s the proof.
A Brit like Ricky Gervais, Simon Pegg, Eddie Izzard, Steve Coogan or Rowan Atkinson would have been a better choice.
BIG fail!
All this nonsense for what? Maybe 2 more seasons??
People are going to discover, like it or not, Kutcher is NOT Charlie Sheen. The chemistry and timing is gone and people will tune out, heading for the next big thing (which, I understand, is happening already).
When all is said and done the Kutcher episodes will eventually be cut out of the syndication package never to be seen again and this stupid event will be a footnote in some silly TV trivia game.
Along with Kutcher’s so-called career.
