CBS News’ website confirmed today what everyone already knew about who is replacing Katie Couric:
Scott Pelley, one the most experienced reporters in broadcast journalism, has been named anchor and managing editor of the “CBS Evening News,” it was announced Tuesday by CBS News Chairman and “60 Minutes” Executive Producer Jeff Fager and David Rhodes, the President of CBS News. The appointment to the broadcast, to be re-named the “CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley,” is effective on June 6. Pelley will continue to report stories for “60 Minutes.”

Scott Pelley has been the best part of 60 Minutes for years, I’m glad he’s finally getting his due. I’m actually looking forward to network news now, and I haven’t felt that since the 90s…
Dinosaurs trading deck chairs on the titanic…
Nailed that one!
Pelley is indeed the best part of 60 Minutes – which is why he should have stayed there. Now he won’t be utilized as often there, and the chance of another Dan Rathereque Memogate blowing up in Pelley’s face increases exponentially. Bad choice…
I like their choice, but Claude is right. I go to Brian Williams for my serious news & was very happy to hear Tom Brokaw via phone on Sunday. How long will there still be news anchors I actually trust?
Careful lest you be accused of sexism.
He’ll be great.
As one of the trade folks said today “Don’t be a game changer, don’t be modern, just read the news, day good night = LONG CAREER”
*Say good night
Yawn. I always liked CBS Evening News, even when it was wacky — remember the Dan Rather/Connie Chung pairing? Katie on CBS was great: a fresh face and voice, and even after they abandoned the edgier format (“freeSpeech”, Katie’s sit-down interviews off-desk) that debuted with her debut, I still kept tuning into the CBS Evening News. There’s no denying that Scott Pelley is a qualified journalist, but this is a step back that unfortunately echoes the ongoing dinosaur talk about the evening news business.
It has been my great good pleasure to have met Scott Pelley outside of the precincts of CBS News on several occasions and to have talked with him at some length about the news business. I must tell you you couldn’t find a straighter shooter than Scott, He is a very good and decent man
When you interviewed President Obama and he did not guarantee that social security checks would be sent out, if the debt limit would not be raised. I wonder why you did not ask him about his allocation of the 200 billion dollars a month. That he chose to intimidate seniors about their checks, when there would be plenty of funds to more than cover social security, military checks, boarder patrol, and others.
Were you not fully prepared or giving the president a pass?
I love Scott Pelley and never miss the CBS News that I watch every night. I have to prerecord the CBS News because I work late and by the time I get home the News is over. I don’t want to miss him. Is there any chance that I can get a signed picture Autograph of Scott Pelley??? It would mean so much to me.

I HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM OR ISSUE WITH YOU SCOTT ,WHEN IT COMES TO “PRESIDENT OBAMA”AND GOV. ROMNEY YOU ALWAYS ADDRESS THE”PRESIDENT”AS “MR.OBAMA” AND NOT “PRESIDENT”, BUT WHEN IT COMES TO ROMNEY YOU ALWAYS ADDRESS HIM AS “GOV.”.MY QUESTION TO YOU IS ,WHATS THE PROBLEM?WHAT I SEE IS THAT YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH”MR.PRESIDENT OBAMA”.I KNOW THAT YOU ARE GOING TO COME UP WITH SOME LAME ASS EXCUSE FOR THIS THINKING THAT YOU ARE THAT “SMART”THAT NO ONE WOULD NOTICE ,BUT I DID NOTICE….”SCOTT”..
