Deadline’s Nikki Finke revealed last month in its exclusive interview with The X Factor mastermind Simon Cowell that he was adding UK pop singer Cheryl Cole to his judges’ panel on the Fox singing competition which premieres in the fall. The network made it official in an announcement this morning. Cole is a judge on his British version of the show but unknown to American audiences. Cowell recently told Nikki that he wants to team up again with Paula Abdul to round out the 4-member judge’s panel, but her contract isn’t done yet:
British pop superstar Cheryl Cole will join Antonio “L.A.” Reid and Simon Cowell as a judge on THE X FACTOR, the highly anticipated singing competition series debuting this fall on FOX. Cole, who has sat alongside Cowell as a judge on the U.K. version of “The X Factor” for three years, is a multi-platinum selling solo artist and a member of Girls Aloud, one of the U.K.’s most successful female vocal groups of all time. Cole will join Cowell, Reid and an additional judge (to be announced) as they travel to THE X FACTOR audition cities searching for the next global superstar or breakout music group.
“I’m thrilled for Cheryl. She is massively excited about this show, and has been fantastic to work with,” said Cowell. “She is also a complete brat! Most importantly, this girl can spot talent.
“I’m so excited to be taking part in the American version of THE X FACTOR. I absolutely love it here in the U.K., and with the talent they have out in America, I’m sure we’re going to find someone very special. I can’t wait to get started,” said Cole. “I just can’t decide whether I am more excited to find and nurture the talent or for the unbelievable amount of amusement and entertainment I will have watching Simon doing everything and anything he can to beat me. He’s tried to beat me for three years in the U.K., and hasn’t even come close. His ego must be so bruised. America is gonna love this.”
“Cheryl Cole has the whole THE X FACTOR package: She’s an incredibly talented artist and performer, as well as a style icon, and she has that special charisma that draws in fans around the world,” said Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “Cheryl’s charm and chemistry with Simon have been a key part of the overwhelming success of ‘The X Factor’ in the U.K., and we can’t wait to welcome her to the U.S. on our air.”

HURRAH Cheryl Cole will be a GREAT judge on U.S.XFactor, Cheryl is completely charming and talented but she’s also completely gorgeous and i LOVE Cheryl cute accent. Please search in youtube: cheryl cole auto tune. how can she judge talent?
Yikes. I just had a look at those videos.
Say what you will about the film & TV biz but the music industry really is nothing but hot air and glitter.
I guess if they can’t compete with the star power of The Voice this is a good choice – but that 4th judge needs to be special i.e. NOT Paula!
The plus points to Ms Cole – her acts have twice won the X factor final, so she’s a good judge. She works hard, has earned her success and has an inspiring rags to riches story.
Downside – a conviction for punching a toilet attendant a few years ago, occasioning “actual bodily harm”. Also doesn’t sing live.
YES! She is a brilliant judge, and an all-round sweet person. She will really bring a lot of good to this show and her place on the panel basically secured I will watch every episode.
BRETT learn to read. Didn’t you notice the words “inspiring” “good judge” “earned her success”? I was putting forward the facts. Even Nikki described her as a “Brit singer convicted of assault who’s unknown to American audiences”.
Get over yourself – you clearly don’t have the brains to read a balanced post.
Cheryl Cole? Who?
I think this is gonna bomb, we’re bordering on over-saturation, and this might be what pushes everyone over the edge…
No, but seriously: who?
This is for American TV, right?
Shocked producers went with someone who has a conviction for assault. She really thumped that poor woman. Seen her live performances on itunes. Mostly mimed and she still wasnt great. Arent there any decent American female singers he could have given the job to?
As a Brit I hope she stays in the US forever. You guys are welcome to her.
I guess this means we should expect one or two of the following judges from the UK X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent to join the USA X Factor’s judging panel as well:
?Dannii Minogue, Louis Walsh, Amanda Holden, Michael Mcintyre
Simon Cowell deliberately chose celebrities who are less famous than him in America to join his panel so that he would be the undisputed star of the show.?
I cannot believe they chose Cheryl Cole over Nicole Scherzinger (or someone they US audience might know). Nicole proved to Simon on the X-Factor last year and was much more well received than Cheryl.
As for her winning, she had the best acts those two years, it’s not like she nurtured them. Alexandra Burke was the best singer and her duet with Beyonce was the main reason she won the final. She’s always got the “easiest” group to mentor – she’s never had the overs or group category. Her knowledge of music seems to be limited – when they had an Elton John week, she didn’t know one of the songs another contestant was singing. And if she gets a country singer, how will she deal with that? I would think she’s never heard a country song in her life.
I just hope Fox and Simon Cowell have made sure she can get a visa – an assault conviction doesn’t really help that.
Please please please – don’t let that Pussycat Doll be the host. She’s one notch above playing a lounge somewhere at this point.
Bigtime ego if you care to google her…
I doubt she will fail in America, because we all know that Simon would not let that happen. Cheryl is someone who came from nothing and with very little talent managed to mould herself into a superstar – although everyone knows that if she was less attractive she would still be working in the local greasy spoon serving pervy old men their Sunday roasts!
