Following last week’s official appointment of Mark Pedowitz as president of the CW, the network’s EVP drama Thom Sherman today is being officially anointed his No. 2 creative executive with a promotion to EVP development. Sherman’s duties will be expanded to oversee the development of all programming, both scripted and unscripted, with the network’s drama and alternative development executives reporting to him. “A uniquely gifted executive, Thom possesses remarkable instincts in terms of great storytelling and character development, and he has cultivated tremendous relationships and earned the respect of the creative community,” said Pedowitz, who has had a close relationship with Sherman for a long time, going back to their days together at ABC. More recently, Pedowitz got to see Sherman in action at the CW; as a Warner Bros. TV-based producer, Pedowitz pitched him projects this past development season. Since joining The CW before its launch in 2006 as EVP drama, Sherman has overseen the development of such series as The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, 90210, Nikita and Hellcats. Prior to joining The CW, Sherman served as President of J.J. Abrams’ entertainment company, Bad Robot Prods, which was based at ABC Studios, then run by Pedowitz. There, he helped launch and oversee the first two seasons of Lost and also executive produced the first season of What About Brian and the pilot for Six Degrees. Before that, Sherman headed the ABC drama development department for five years as SVP and was responsible for the development and oversight of such series as Lost, Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, Alias and Once & Again.

WOW So people actually DO get promoted at that awful company
This one will help Pedowitz to make The CW the next Fox…
About time. How he stayed so long under that fool is beyond me. I only hope her awful taste and behavior didn’t infect him. If not, then this will be a huge upgrade.
must have got his talent from his mother, but he got his good looks from me!
Glenn (Thom’s proud papa)
This just made my day. Warmed my dark, cynical heart. I hope it’s real.
Thom can actually make the process of writing a pilot FUN. It warms my cold, bitter writer heart to see a good guy do well!
Yes! It’s good for everybody when a great executive moves up. And Thom’s one of the best. He deserves this.
I’ll add to the chorus of people who’ve worked with Thom — he’s tremendous to develop with. His notes are honest and productive. If something has to change, he tells you why. I’d feel lucky to work with him again.
Watching the CW is kind of like getting lobotomized in slow motion.
Thom may have gotten his good looks from Glenn, but when it comes to acting and producing it was his uncles who gave him his street smarts!
Thom has been a strong executive, a good guy and a class act consistently for years. Much deserved and well earned. Congrats to him and his (rightly) proud family.
And he gets his golf game from me! Which is to say he is a hacker.
Congrats Thom.
Thom Sherman is talented, but he is also one of the nicest people I ever worked with. He’s down to earth, downright funny and a calm balance to any storm on the work front.
Judith
Hope that Thom Sherman will keep “Hellcats”.
