EXCLUSIVE: Is fitness guru Jillian Michaels the next daytime talk show star? The popular Biggest Loser trainer has signed a multi-year deal to join the daytime syndicated talk show The Doctors as a co-host next season. Additionally, she will serve as a special correspondent on Dr. Phil. Both talk shows are distributed by CBS TV Distribution and executive produced by Phil McGraw. When she announced in December that she would leave The Biggest Loser after the current 11th season, Michaels tweeted that she was planning to “focus on becoming a mommy.” While that is still very much in the cards, Michaels said that she had been open to doing something in the daytime space. Since announcing her exit from Loser, she fielded multiple job offers but immediately sparked to the idea of joining The Doctors, created and exec produced by Jay McGraw, as well as Dr. Phil. “This was an opportunity to do something that I love and help so many people, so I couldn’t possibly pass it up,” said Michaels, who has appeared about a dozen times on The Doctors in the past three seasons. She also relishes the opportunity for “people to see the 360-degree version of me” vs. the somewhat “caricature” character that she plays on Loser, where she is known for being very tough on the contestants. “I will still take a tough-love approach when necessary, but this is a platform that will allow me to have a direct connection with the viewers and provide them with information, motivation and support.” Also appealing to Michaels was the chance to work with Phil McGraw, whom she called “the ultimate mentor” in daytime, especially with Oprah Winfrey leaving the arena later this month. While The Doctors started off as a show for advice from medical professionals, it has evolved, and recruiting Michaels is part of that, Jay McGraw said. “We’re broadening the type of information we are going to provide to viewers,” he said. “Jillian is the best at what she does and has the ability to form an incredible bond with the viewers.” Here is the release announcing Michaels’ new jobs:
Health and wellness expert and fan favorite Jillian Michaels (The Biggest Loser) has been signed to a multi-year deal to join the team of experts on the Emmy Award-winning daytime series The Doctors, it was announced today by Creator and Executive Producer Jay McGraw.
THE DOCTORS, from Stage 29 Productions, and distributed by CBS Television Distribution, launched in 2008 with an esteemed group of professionals that includes ER physician Dr. Travis Stork; OB/GYN Dr. Lisa Masterson; cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Drew Ordon and pediatrician Dr. Jim Sears. The show has been heralded for providing viewers with entertaining and easily-digestible information that is essential to health and well-being.
“Jillian Michaels is the perfect addition to THE DOCTORS team,” said McGraw. “She not only embraces our mission to supply viewers with critical information to make informed and intelligent health care decisions, but more importantly, she leads by example. Jillian has been one of our most popular guests, and we’re thrilled to give her a permanent seat at the table on THE DOCTORS, where she will focus on Wellness, Prevention and Lifestyle dynamics in addition to other health-related issues. Our Doctors all love Jillian and could not be more excited about her joining the team.”
In addition to her role as co-host on THE DOCTORS, Michaels also will serve as a special correspondent on DR. PHIL, where she will focus on similar lifestyle issues.
“I could not be more excited about joining such an amazing show! My greatest passion is helping people live their healthiest, happiest lives by empowering them with information and support,” said Michaels. “This is literally the most informative show in daytime, and it allows me to continue to educate people on how to make powerful health choices enabling them to take control of not only their physical well-being, but every facet of their lives. I have thoroughly enjoyed the time I have spent as a guest on the show and becoming a permanent member of the team makes today one of the best yet.”
Although best known as a trainer and life coach, Michaels also is the author of four New York Times best-sellers. She brings to THE DOCTORS a passion for fitness that originates from 17 years of devoted practice in the fields of martial arts, personal training, health and wellness. She embraces a no-nonsense approach to promoting healthy lifestyles that is well-suited to the show’s core mission of supplying its viewers with valuable information about today’s health topics and recognizing that an ounce of prevention is the key to a long, healthy life.

Wow, she’s leaving a show where the health and safety of contestants are often a dicey proposition at best thanks to the exigencies of “the story” to join a show where she’ll be giving medical advice.
Quack quack! Quack! Quack quack!
Your probably one of those 250 pound people that don’t like her because she made you realize what a lazy fat a*s you are . Get up off your couch and do some jumping jacks.
Amen! Well said, lmao
Why do you think she wanted to leave BL? She had personal objections to the show that were out of her control. She knows quite a bit about fitness and I think she’s more than qualified to give out advice. I wouldn’t be so quick to judge her if I were you.
Get your facts straight. Jillian has often spoken out against some of the issues with BL. She wouldn’t even have anything to do with some sponsors, such as Yo-plait because it goes against what she believes in. If you saw her own show, Losing It, you would have seen what I think is a “realer” side of her.
She’s leaving a forum she has objections to, to do something good for everyone. I think it is great!
I’ll take your word for what Jillian Michaels said on her show. I blinked and missed it during its all-too-brief life.
That said, her really-realness aside, both of the shows with which she’s been involved have been, politely put, exploitative nonsense. That Americans would actually sit and watch the “journeys”–’cause it’s always a “journey”–of morbidly obese people being put through S/M boot camp never ceases to amaze/horrify me.
That she’s now moving on–not so much focusing on “becoming a mommy,” I guess–to work with Dr. Phil, one of the great charlatans of pop medicine speaks volumes regarding her credibility.
I faithfully watch The Doctors and admire every Doctor on the show and value their individual advice. Bringing Miss Michaels on the show is utterly ridiculous. She does not belong on this medical show. Supposedly she is a fitness guru, then she should have stayed with her Biggest Looser Show, that’s where she belongs. Doubt I will watch the show when she is on. Sorry but that is the way I feel.
YES!!!!!!! Love her so much. Can’t wait.
Where does it say she will be giving medical advise? As with any media advice, you need to use common sense and check with your health care provider to make sure it is right for you. Jillian has been an inspiration to many people & now to have a wider audience is fabulous for those with weight and fitness issues!
You took the words right out of my mouth!
She is not going to give medical advice. She is going to give advice on health wellness and exercise. She gave the same advice on the biggest loser. I don’t see the difference. She has been on the Doctors many times with advice on health and wellness thus time she has a permanent seat . You missed the point. If you read the article it explains it.
This is AMAZING news! I am SO HAPPY for Jillian!
I like her but she’s not a doctor is she??? So why would she be on a show called The Doctors??? Just Saying…
I totally agree!
Hmmm…I don’t know if this is a good call. Jillian road the wave of popularity BECAUSE of The Biggest Loser, not on her own. Left to her own devices she had a failed summer weight loss series that wasnt’ renewed. While she’s knowledgable with fitness/diet/health she’s not the most likable tv personality…evidences by Bob Harper’s great popularity…and I don’t see viewers flocking to their sets to see her in these different formats. Her brash, loud speaking interaction pepppered with failed attempts at humor are mostly uncomfortable to watch as she goes from fake intense to artificially sincere with neither being believeable.
She should’ve stayed with TBL and taken the correspondent role with Dr. Phil. The Doctors is not the right fit and it’s not a ratings winner like TBL. I for one will not be tuning in.
I guess to each their own….as wrong as they may be.
Guess its a good thing there are so many of us who will be tuning in.
I’ve heard Jillian speak in person and she is incredibly sincere and personable. I met her at the Los Angeles Times Festival of books and she spent at least 5 minutes with all the people lined up to see her and hugged everyone! She really cares and I like her straight shooting attitude! Most people are fat because they WANT to be more than they want to do what it takes to lose the weight and be healthy! It’s not easy!
Her show wasn’t renewed because she’s moving from NBC to CBS. In the world of televisions you can’t work for two networks at the same time (at least only a very small percent pull it off). It wasn’t because of the ratings.
That is absolutely wonderful that Jillian w/b joining “The Doctors”! I feel she will be a terrific asset to the program. Added bonus is that we’ll get to see her every day!
Great! Unfortunately I am not in the USA, so I can’t follow this show directly, but Jillian has been an inspiration for me to get up and change my life. I have the same hormonal problems as her and her advices really helped! If you find some of her videos on youtube about this topic or read her book about metabolism, you will see she is more than capable of giving advices! Thank you Jillian and a big hello from the Balkans!
She is right on a lot of things but the Biggest Loser is no doubt trash TV at it’s absolute worst, and has been from day one. I will always question her authenticity because of what she was willing to do to contestants on that show to propel herself to fame. It is completely unethical to put those people through what she put them through then exploit it for ratings. Forcing them to drop 100 lb or more in a ridiculously short amount of time is the anithesis of “health” so I really don’t want to hear about health from her. God knows what damage was done to those contestants internal organs through that process of being on that show that they will pay for in other ways for the rest of their life.
And for Dr. Phil, a lard a*s, to preach to women about being fat is the biggest example of mindless hypocritical television there is. I find her celebrity a*s kissing self-serving and I because she is willing to be such a fake suck up with celebrities, I deeply question her character. Sorry, but we all know what she did to those contestants and that is a sellout beyond what even the Kardashians would be willing to do. This authoritarian stance is pure BS and she really should take a good cold hard look in the mirror. Yes, most of her message is good but there is a SERIOUS incongruity in her character that she has NOT in ANY way addressed to audiences. I hope she takes an opportunity to make up for it because I would love to be a fan.
you are an idiot!
Yes i think losing this much weight can do some damage, but hello do you think that their internal organs were in better shape under 100 pounds of fat, or now….there is sacrifices to everything life, and Jillians personality might not shine through as much in BL as it could but you can easily see what a wonderful caring person she is. Thanks Jillian for all the motivation!!!!
This is greeeeat news, I’m so exited for her! Jillian is the Perfect addition to The Doctors, I will have my Itouch handy to type in her health and fitness tips
I love Jillian, but I’m saddened to see her go this direction. I think Dr. Phil is a complete joke and will only bring her reputation down.
All of daytimre is a joke! Its entertainment not rocket science. I think Jillian will rock in any direction she is a motivator!!
I don’t think all of the doctors on the show have the greatest sense of humour yet they still have a connection, respect and trust of viewers to take their advice seriously. She may not be a doctor but she’s one very intellectual and knowledgeable woman who can relate with those who need her advice. Everybody is entitled to try to develop themselves as a person and their ways, and if she wants to show the world her “calmer” nature, then why not? I don’t see the need to bash her at all. When it comes to fitness and weight loss advice on “The Doctors” I would much rather take her advice than a plastic surgeon’s advice (although I think he’s great too, don’t think I’m trying to bash him lol)
I’m estatic for Jillian. It was so hard to think that all the healthful and weight loss knowledge that was at hand for the millions of people that love and believe in Jillian would no longer have this available
They are going to change the name of the show to The Doctors and the Fitness Coach.
Next to join the cast will be Dr. Doolittle.
Awesome when will that be?
So happy for jillian! I love how she inspires people to change their lives. I’ve lost 50lbs w/ her books and dvds. The doctors will be a great with her!
Do people actually watch that god awful, insipid show?
Jillian has opened my eyes and showed me how big i got over the past 5 years. . And thats after gastric by pass surgery. . .now im on a double quest. . .my brother needs a kidney im a perfect Match. . . Yes i am in the gym at least 2 hrs. A day 5-7 days a week depending on my schedual and a 1 hour power walk 3-5 days a week. . .i want to be in the shape of my life and i want to keep it that way after the surgery. . .i dont ever want to be this FAT EVER AGAIN!!!! IF you want to help Jillian id love it?
Well, there goes the credibility of The Doctors. While a fine guest, I think the idea of her joining as a co-host is not a good fit. I watch the show for the doctor’s opinions not the opinions of celebrity fitness gurus.
There is a difference between helping fat people, and getting rich off of them. Her name and face are everywhere, on all the “products” including crappy supplements “not a diet pill, a health supplement” (yeah, right) that make false promises. She practices psychology/psychiatry without a license on the show, will she continue to do that on The Doctors?
She started out helping people, and although she is still helping them to some extent, it’s obvious her main goal is fame & fortune for herself.
Bob Harper is starting to go in the same direction, I hope he wakes up before he is also looked at as nothing more than a gold-digger.
Jillian continues to inspire me in my quest to eat healthy and exercise diligently. Although I began my journey before the biggest loser the show helped me stay in step with my journey to a better life. I am a 70 year old 5x cancer survivor, have lost 100 pounds and continue to excel with 30-40 additional pounds. I wish Jillian well and I believe she will be an asset to the Doctors show. I hope she remains focus on helping people and not get caught up in the media frenzy. She is too good to lose. She will be missed on the BL, that no one is indispensable and perhaps an opportunity will be given to others thanks to Jillian Michaels. I hope that I will find a way to make a small contribution of my story in my own community. That is what its all about.
I believe Jillian should be applauded for her knowledge, ability and business sense. If you acquire fame and fortune along the way, good for you. How about all the people she has helped along the way both on television BL and those that we are not even aware of? Wish her well and move on.
Wow, the previous comment was mindless but yours is just abusive. True or not why post such divisive nonsense?
I did her kettle bell DVD – can she afford my chiropractors bills?
How do you spell CHARLATAN… J.I.L.L.I.A.N
Losing It wasn’t renewed because she’s leaving BL and NBC said we’re taking Losing It from you also. So to the person who called it a failed show and she wont make it on her own, think again.
Why is Jillian so crazy about Dr. Phil? All he does is exploit people for ratings. Look at the Alexandra girl he’s been following for 8 yrs as she lives the life of a drug addict who won’t take care of her kids. The show thrives off the drama. They don’t want her to get better, they want her to be a freak show for ratings. I was hoping Jillian would branch out on her own with a show, but for some reason she worships Dr. Phil who isn’t even a doctor anymore. His show is too Jerry Springer these days.
Exactly right.
