UPDATE: No surprise there – NBC has pulled the plug on the low-rated sci-fi drama The Event, which started off strongly but quickly fizzled. But there is a twist, and it’s not only the big surprise planned by the producers for the finale. Talks are underway with at least one distribution partner to take over the serialized drama. The Event executive producer Steve Stark wouldn’t comment, but I hear new original programming player Netflix’s name tossed around. Word is that there has been interest from several cable and digital entities. Stark said that they are exploring the opportunities with the “full support” of the studio, UMS. “NBC has been an amazing partner, it launched the show beautifully,” he said. Added creator Nick Wauters: “We have a dedicated fan base, and we promised them we will deliver one way or another and will continue to tell our stories.”

I am shocked NBC would cancel such a GREAT show. It is a “wonderful thriller–keeping one in suspense from week to week.” I certainly hope some tv network keeps The Event. I agree this is a great show. NBC is crazy to cancel it i tune in week to week to see whats going to happen next i hope they will think a little more before going though the decsion. this show has a big fan base i don’t see why they will want to take it off the air

The dumbest mistake NBC made was cancelling The Event. I was never a big fan of NBC’s shows. The only time i watched was to see Oprah. My sister told me about The Event and convinced me to watch it. After watching 1 episode, i was hooked. All my friends and family are fans. NBC, you should have aired season 2. You have lost this viewer. Thank goodness someone else saw the potential for The Event to become as big as “True Blood” on HBO. Monday WAS my favorite tv night.

The Event is my favorite show it made you think. No useless violence or semi nudity or rape murder or mayhem. No cops No lawyers or doctors just ordinary people in an extremely unordinary situation. A little slow ? It had to let the people know the cast of characters, and their dilemma. not slow at the point they shut it down. we would not only watch it but talk about it afterwards. Don’t you think there is a thinking population out here. we are so sick of your stupid mindless sitcoms (mostly based on sexual Situations)or reality shows that are about as real as the easter bunny. Give me at least one show I can enjoy . bring back THE EVENT.

Reporting in from the the UK.. I think The Event is the Best show created for a long time and I would be absolutely gutted to see it gone. so please find a way to keep it going.. I started watching it in the UK on Ch4 but because of low ratings the show was moved to stupid aclock in the morning (probably making the low ratings even worse). I then Started to watch it on catch up on demand (4od) after discovering that NBC played it a week in advanced i decided i could wait a week between episode so found a way to watch it through NBC playback on-line. THE EVENT, Fantastic Story Line, great line up of actors, no sleazy clips, great in ever way.. WE MUST STAND UNITED, WATCH THE SHOW TEN TIMES OVER ON REPLAY> That get the ratings up. KEEP IT GOING!!

The Event was fabulous. Couldn’t figure out how to post my own, so am tagging onto yours. Hope you don’t mind. I am so missing that show. I really hope they continue it on some other channel. I thought the acting was great, particularly The President and his National Security Advisor. lol (don’t remember their real names)
They had stated that it would redone a second season so I sat down to watch what I thought was the opening episode and I nearly cried when it wasn’t on!
I wondered what happened to THE EVENT! Because of how I work I just thought the program was being preempted for some reason and that I would eventually see it again. Not so.
Why cancel such an entertaining program? The Event should come back somewhere for those who were fans of the series can once again be entertaiined on a intellectual level. Not be insulted with mideless sitgcoms, reality shows, etc!!
I reaLLY hope that this show will continue!!! it would be ashame to cancel it now when the most interesting things happened in the finale. What’s going on? there are very weak shows that stay on the air much longer and this is a very captivating,every minute of it non-stoping action and surprize,very well done and acted show. Today’s ratings are skewed with people using DVR to record these shows and then gather friends and family to watch the shows together. Whoever pick this up will reap the benfits while loyal fans reward them and enjoy the show!
I love THE EVENT. Last night’s season finale was fantastic! I knew the President’s wife was one of them…But someone must pick this show up….I am so sick of all the reality tv shows out there now…I really enjoy this kind of show as well as many others I am sure.

NBC plans to introduce a variety of unbelievably poor choices for the fall lineup(“Playboy Club”), I guess there wasn’t room for quality. I really hope both “V” and “The Event” get picked up on cable…I am officially sick of network & their ridiculous programming decisions.

I completely agree whole heartedly!!!! I’m so sick of the three network channels(NBC,CBS & ABC) starting new shows and getting the fans hooked on them and canceling them right when they start getting good. It makes you not want to get interested an any new shows the offer because you don’t know if your going to be left hanging. This whole crap about ratings is rediculous. If they would include the ratings from people who use their DVR to watch their shows, the networks would have an actual account of how many fans they really have.

I just stumbled on this show by accident, Looking to bite sometime, i said hey! let me find a series shows, they last all day, I almost passed the show up, No mention of the show in the press,no advertising, Now! I can see the smart of information. I found a treasure by accident. I like the show Event, thanks to Netflix.

I love that shat; you just can’t cancel it now. I don’t believe for a second the ratings were not high enough. Maybe when football season, I could see that, but that’s just not possible. If you would advertise it more and let people know when it comes on, I’m sure the ratings would go up.
You had me until “no sex or naked women”. Layla is hot. But I digress, there are far too many crime dramas these days, and this show may have been poorly delivered, but it was different and I think a second season could be much stronger. I’m hoping it works out, and in the meantime I’ll watch Falling Skies and Terra Nova!
I so totally agree. I am so sick of watching t.v. any more. And there are just way too many reality shows. I guess it’s the cheap way out. I certainly hope somebody picks it up soon. It’s as exciting as 24 was to me but sci-fi. I guess one thing I like so much about it is it is so realistic as opposed to slimy salavia dripping creatures that seemingly have the capacity to travel through intergalactic space. And know Steven Speilberg has a show soon coming our way and it will probably be on forever. Hope The Event finds a new home soon.
I LOVE this show. It really breaks my heart the TRASH like Jersey Shore is on TV but an AMAZING drama that makes you THINK and doesn’t rot your brain with binge drinking and public grinding would be canceled! PLEASE SOMEONE PICK IT UP! There are SO many loose ends!!!! What happens to Sean+Leila and their child? What happens with the ACTUAL Event, what about the Arrival? I KNEW the First Lady was one of them! What about that darned Scroll? And what about Vicky (who we all know has a crush on Sean!). There are so many questions left to be answered . . . I have to know!!!

I hope this show continues. They cancelled another show called “Las Vegas” and soon learned that people wanted it back. Now it’s on everyday in the afternoon and I’ve watched it from beginning to end four times. The Event has more suspense then any cop or doctor show. Pretty please bring it back. If you want to end it at least give us a true finale show where we know if they went back to their planet or if they took over our world. I GOTTA KNOW !!!!!

Once again NBC cancels something original and interesting in lieu of pop culture’s inability to stay focused long enough to watch any show develop a plotline. I am sick of all of the trash and reality crap on TV today. Don’t get me wrong, we all have a reality show or two that would qualify as a guilty pleasure. I happen to LOVE House Hunters on HGTV, but our love of reality is getting ridiculous.
I think the country has become a bit ADD when it comes to TV shows, and producers fall for it. People are becoming increasingly bored. With Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Smart phones and instant news. Who has time to watch plots and characters develop? I read somewhere that the last standing Soap Opera will end in 2012…but 30 minute reality court shows are popping up everywhere. Producers need to give traditional hour long dramas (and no, I do not mean American Idol and Dancing With the Stars) a place in their lineup. But they won’t. It is cheaper to make a reality show. There are millions of people out there willing to be a contestant and participate in a short run fad. Do you notice how a show appears on one channel and then the other networks copy the formula and develop their version? Networks jump on the bandwagon- fad every time. Competition not program quality or original programing drives the local networks. They are having difficulty keeping up with the pace of the modern world. I don’t blame them. I too find it difficult to keep up. The other factor is that many viewers don’t have the time. I myself DVR The Event and watch it later. I also fast-forward through the commercials…impatience? It can be frustrating to wait a week before the next episode, but that is because I really enjoy the plot.
In a time where modern technology transmits information and entertainment instantly, perhaps hour long dramas are becoming a thing of the past. I would like to ask the producers to recognize that there are still some viewers out there that do not have attention the span of a two year old. By the way NBC, the VOICE sucks!

Not only does it destroy fans’ appreciation for the show but it makes people mad, particularly active viewers, to find out that one of their favorite televised shows has been cancelled –specially when its plot is in its climax and at the most exciting phase. I cannot believed that after enthusiastically watching every single episode, week after week,they just decided to… CANCELLED IT? Heroes was aired for more than three seasons even though it was not as competent as The Event in terms of story line and plot’s excitement (by the way great TV show, nothing personal). I sincerely hope for the producers to find a great television network where they can portray The Event, starting from season one and beyond, to all of its fans. Don’t cancel this show! Just when the plot is getting interesting and another mother earth is in view. Some network please pick this up. Producers seem only interested in viewers that have no attention span. This show had everything going for it, especially Taylor Cole!!

This is a very well written show, Im so tired of the Networks killing shows that have a strong viewer base. They need to find a means to track the number of followers who record shows by use of DVR’s! People have very busy and hectic schedules these days and are not always able to watch a show they love the moment it airs but many like myself, let the dvr record all my favorites and when my schedule allows I sit down and get caught up on my favorite shows. The Event is definately one of them. STOP killing our shows because yr ratings system is outdated! Keep The Event on TV and spare us from the endless bore of reality TV and wanna be stars! Please!
I agree so much this is show should not be cancelled. It was sad when Jericho was cancelled and that show was left hanging and also about DVR, I agree so much about that because I believe a lot of soaps would never have gotten cancelled. I am a days fan now but used to be guiding light along with my grandmother and because of this lousy system for ratings there are good shows getting cancelled after long runs or before they can even get a foot in the door.

First V and now The Event. It appears good SciFi shows have never had much of a survival rate on network tv, going back to the original Star Trek series. Due to the cancellations of excellent SciFi shows, such as the entire Star Trek franchise, many of us SciFi lovers are forced to other viewing means to watch our favorite SciFi shows over and over again.
Since I rarely watch tv, I recently came across the 18th episode of the Event on the internet. I immediately feel in love with the show and spent the next two days watching all of the earlier episodes. After which, I could barely wait for the next episode to be posted. Then like V, I read The Event would be cancelled. What a let down.

You think that SciFi shows would make it on the SyFy channel (which I think NBC owns) but they cancelled “Stargate Universe” to put on a reality show about ghost hunting. There has been a study that shows that our children are losing their imaginations and from what I have seen come out of Hollywood and TV lately I would say the same would hold true for adults too. We have peaked as a civilization it all goes downhill from here folks just like the Romans and their reality killing stage shows, it’s the elites way of “There’s nothing to see here, there are no problems” Sad Sad Sad never thought I would see the day when the past looked brighter than the future.
I truly liked The Event, and believe the quality will only improve over time. Unfortunately though I was amused by V I do not think it had the quality of writing this show does, just too many hokey items. I strongly advise someone to pick this show up, if it is Netflix, I will reinstate my membership.

NBC doesn’t know a good show when they have one! They keep the bs programming and run 4 hour episodes of biggest loser and celeb apprentice, but cancel great tv like the event and friday night lights. Two of the best shows on tv…gone! Hoping to be able to continue watching the event on another network and would def tune in regardless of what station they move to. Great show!

I had a feeling that this may happen. One reason, the show has to compete with Dancing with the stars. It’s a shame I just love the Event. It would be a shame to leave all the fans of this show hanging again just like they did with the Gates. All fans should write in and it known…this is a great show and finish off what they started for once.

As me, many others will have their DVR and then prefer to watch HIMYM or any other tv shows that does not require to think or keep some track of the previous events… So here we are in a situation that companies who pay for this show won’t believe that it has many followers like us. That is why in my opinion I would knock the door of the tv stations for changing the way of doing ratings and evolve to this new internet/dvr era.
I agree. The antiquated Nielsen TV ratings system doesn’t work anymore. We all watch TV differently today, but the Nielsen TV ratings system has adjusted or updated. Additionally, revenue models aren’t in-line with newer technology and newer methods of distribution.
Execs need to wake up and adjust or risk losing their entire revenue model. The more good shows get cancelled, the less likely people are to invest time into a series that will probably get cancelled….it is self fulfilling prophecy.
why would you even possibly consider canceling this show. what, are they trying to make space for another boring reality show. Or maybe another typical comedy. NBC should’ve never cancelled this show. It was building a great following. I hope you guys find another network to get the show on again soon. The fans are anxious to see what happens next. Common now, everytime there is a decent different show on air they end up canceling it. Is NBC sure that they are talling the number of viewers correctly? I was never polled, I love the Event, it made my Mondays.
This is by far the BEST show on TV!!! Our entire family looks forward to watching it every Monday. We hope someone picks it up and shows NBC what a mistake they did by canceling it…

This is the only show I watch on Mondays. I hate to think that I never missed an episode only to have it pulled without a resolution. I get very tired of investing time in a show only to have the network yank it. Hopefully it will find a new home with a network that values it’s viewers.

My daughter and I LOVED this show! I couldn’t believe that it was cancelled. I really hope it gets shown in another venue. I always looked forward to Monday nights and taped the show whenever I wasn’t able to sit glued to the couch. We need something BESIDES American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, and serial cop shows. I think you made a mistake not giving this another season on prime time tv. You may end up regretting it!!
Watching the Event became painful after the first couple episodes — the writing was just that bad; cliched and full of stupid plot gimmicks. I’m hoping it stays buried.
As a life long science fiction fan I have to say The Event has a great story line but a horrible ensemble of actors. Its as painful as watching the senior play at any high school. The only thing that keeps me watching is the story. Some of the acting actually makes me cringe. A much better acted and written series was Stargate Universe, but alas, that was canceled as well. The worst of the worst, V, should be buried in an unmarked grave.
Would love to see the show go on but please, please, please replace Jason Ritter with someone like Jimmy Walker….DYNOMITE!!!

I loved the show and again was waiting each week to hear, yet again another “need to watch each week” show get cancelled. I said if it does this will be the LAST show I watch that you must watch each week with a ending that …..wait what ending. I will watch the continuing series if they revive it but the networks have shot themselves in the foot with making a series and then cutting the viewers off when interest wains. I understand you must cancel if there is not enough viewers but for goodness sake, give the loyal viewers a REAL ending.
The EVENT is truly one of the best shows on TV. It has suspense, surprises, good acting and interesting subplots. I truly hope someone picks it up next season

This was the only show I watched on NBC. They have lower ratings to begin with anyway, because they have horrible shows(execpt THE EVENT)that nobody watches. NBC didn’t promote the show very well. I never saw a ad for it during the first and second halves of the season. I personally believe it would do well on USA or SyFy and would probably grow their ratings. NBC made a BIG MISTAKE.
Absolutly great to hear the show will continue, so tired of boring reality, fake reality shows. I want to be entertained not put to sleep. There are no good scifi shows anymore and this is only 1 of a couple shows i watch. Keep it going i cant wait to see what happens after the Arrival show…:)
Have you ever heard of On Demand. For some of us, when we didn’t catch the original series, tuned in, we became hooked immediately. You leave us hanging with a newly appeared planet in the sky and the President’s wife saying, “It’s home”! I’m sick of shows being cancelled with no notice to the viewers. Someone please pick this up. I watch Netflix On Demand and found many series I liked.
The Event is a great show and finally something worth watching. Get to the good part and , bang someone stops it…Terrible. Just like several others that were good and someone decided it goes. What a big mistake for NBC and hopefully someone else’s gain when they pick up the show. They keep canceling good shows we may as well cancel TV and sell our sets.
Please keep the event on…so many people look forward to it on a monday night. It has replaced 24 and is just as great!

This is the best show by far I have seen in years, I cannot believe they pulled the show due to lack of viewers, all the people I know and all my colleagues at work all follow the event. I can’t wait to see it come back, I can’t stand the suspense at this point having seen all the episodes since the show aired.

Please keep this show, it’s the only one that has come along in the longest time, thqt keeps you on your toes not knowing what will happen next…you have so many more shows that should and could be cancelled, with explicit language, sex and knowing the outcome before you get to the end you can write the scrip yourself..

This is the best series that has hit TV in a long time….so refreshing to find somethng well written and unpredictable. When I heard NBC was not picking it back up, I lost all hope for TV. All that “realily” junk that constantly dispalys no talent, no script, no intellect and it survives year after year. I have watched every episode, which is very unusual for me, and have gotten many friends to start watching. SOMEONE OUT THERE….PICK THIS SHOW UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Typical of NBC, killing the good shows. Explains why NBC is consider a bad network for prime time, they don’t listen to their audience. The Event did struggle a little mid season, but was much better during the second half of the season. It had a great cliff hanger for the last episode. I don’t know where they get their ratings information from, everyone I know loved the show.

Well, let me say I NEVER watch TV series — but when I started watching THE EVENT on Netfix as a fluk — I just was literally hyptnotized watching this series!!! I watch 15 episodes in one day — couldn’t let it go.. The Actors are absolutely great, professionally produced, the story line is cliff hanger after cliff hanger. — New faces, no sex, guns, rock and roll — I’m 58 and am in love with this series — don’t let go of it! Don’t let the big NetWorks kick it off because it may interfere with their own agenda!

I’ve sat on my couch watching 22 episodes of the Event for two days straight. This could be a cult like following from the fans of the Event. I blew the series off thinking I’d catch up on hulu. In no way did I see this series being as fantastic as it really is!

I just found this show “The Event” on Netflix and was able to watch the whole season consequtively. This is the most time my husband and I have ever spent together in front of a television in 12 years of marriage. I absolutely love this show. It rivals “24″ in my opinion and does NOT deserve to be canceled. Please bring it back. I truly enjoyed having something he and I can watch together that keeps getting better and better.I like that it doesn’t have all the profanity and nudity that is popular on tv today. The last episode where the showdown played out between “Martinez” and “Jarvis” had me jumping out of my seat for joy. It’s sad that actor Blair Underwood does not get the recognition in the credits for this show. It stars Jason Ritter, which I have no problem with, but at least they could have said that Blair Underwood was a co-star. He isn’t credited as such to my knowledge on this show but he is phenomenal in this performance and was the reason I kept watching this show. Netflix doesn’t even list his name in the cast under the series description box. That’s my only complaint about this show. Why put unknown actors/actresses before someone with his experience?? Regardless, I will still watch the show. Hopefully they bring it back.
Every day I would go to the search box on my televison to find out if The Event has an air date, but nothing! finally I decided to google the show_ to my devastation I see the word CANCEL!!!!!!!!! How could a show that I have been looking so forward to every week get cancelled. I am hoping that if chanel 4 is not an option, someone will find another network that will pick up the series, Please I have been waiting for months for the return, someone do something!

First Jericho, then V, and The Event. Why can’t we keep some shows that keep you on the edge of your seat? They always cancel the good sci-fy shows. CBS, ABC, NBC, you all suck. Good thing we still have Sons Of Anarchy, although they need more episodes, something FX does to keep you interested!
What happened with this?? Did it get picked back up? I really liked this show, but what’s more frustrating than having a show you like canceled, is having a show you like canceled without first giving closure to the story (e.g. “V”, “Flash Forward”, etc).

I should have waited to comment until the actual story was posted. I was excited about The Event and even really into the pilot until the big secret was revealed to be…freaking aliens. Again.
I was hoping for a far-reaching government conspiracy with science fiction elements, but just couldn’t get down with more annoying extraterrestrials, especially after the bad taste “V” had left in my mouth.
How many not-Losts (and not-first-season Heroes) have come and gone now? V, The Event, FlashForward…
Even though the Lost team ultimately didn’t really know where they were going, it certainly didn’t feel like they were already stalling in episode 2 of the first season. These shows have to learn.
You know whatever issues people had with the overall storyline in Lost, the show never lost sight of it’s characters and made sure it was a terrifically entertaining show week after week (even if it didn’t make sense in the long run). Also it was excellently paced and had a perfect sense of atmosphere.
Shows like The Event, Flashforward and V come out with several seasons mapped but lose sight of their week to week stories or fleshing out their characters.
I completely agree. I will always remember Lost and its amazing characters fondly, despite the final season nuttiness.
These knock-offs are so focused on having a cliff-hanger every week that they forget to make us care about the characters. On Lost crazy stuff happened because characters made interesting choices that drove the story, not simply because the writers decided to throw a curveball at minute 59.
Lost was bullshit and most people got sick of watching it. The weekly shows were let downs and always made more questions and answered nothing. At least with “the Event” I know what is going on and questions are answered each week. I love both “the Event” and was very interested in “V” as well, and am very disappointed (well, pissed rather) in the cancellations.
You got it, Pat! I loved the Event. The idea of the Aliens needed time to develop. No has patience anymore–the way the storyline was quickly evovling it was clear that the aliens were advance ancient Humans! One of the things that drove me from Lost was you didn’t know what you were getting episode from episode. Ad with the Event you have a wonderful cast of TV character actors with an excellent racial mix. I enjoyed the show.

The Event is a great show, and after the finale, I shouted out alot of nasty words towards NBC. NBC cancelled The Event, now I’m canceling NBC! I hope another network picks up The Event, I would like to see V find a new home as well.

To all, please make a conscious effort not to leave your tv running in the background – with some crap reality/cop/medical/cooking…. programme on (as i probably am right now :/ lol)- tune it to at least the type of programmes you truly enjoy, if not turn it off. Maybe then the minority will be heard
It is worth noting that Flashforward has AMAZING character development and is a show that definitely deserves to live on. V should not even be mentioned in this class. Although entertaining – Anna was the best thing going – it was cheesy. The Event, however, is well put together and the cast is awesome – although the Layla character falls flat to me. Nonetheless, the salient point of this thread regarding the troubling cancellation of quality shows is not lost on me. The Event at least deserves a second season and possibly a different time slot if they want to try to boost ratings.
I say let OWN pick it up although I’m not sure if this is aligned with Oprah’s network mission. Just saying…
Correction… I said FlashForward had great character development but I confused that title with FlashPoint, the cancelled CBS series which is really incredible!!!! I don’t know what they’re thinking either.
Flashforward was so short lived, by the time I went to my DVR to watch it, the show was cancelled and so I deleted it having never watched an episode.
Flashpoint is a Canadian show and has not been canceled. CBS continues to slot the show into its schedule at odd times or to fill gaps. They have announced that they will pick up the season that has already aired in Canada for broadcast in the US.
“V” was just bad. The writing was surprisingly bad and had none of the sophistication or zest that it should have had. For some reason, “V’s” producers decided to jump on the torture bandwagon, having the shows heroes chopping off body parts, etc. Then was the terrible character of Tyler, probably the worst annoying teen on TV.
As for the “Event,” someone should smack the network programmers who think long hiatus breaks do anything but destroy serial dramas. ABC inflicted the same lethal misjudgment on FastForward.
That said, the “Event” also suffered from bad, illogical writing. The characters would do things that were simply not the actions of reasonable people or the highly intelligent folks who become world leaders and billionaires.
The “Event” had heroic figures commit torture and mass murder needlessly. I realize that in our post-9/11 world that the good guys using evil to do good is now acceptable but come on, can’t we have heroes who at least try outwit their enemies instead of killing them?
Watching the “Event’s” Sean hammer away at someone’s hand to get information was just too much. Mangling a man’s hand didn’t make Sean seem more manly or heroic.
That said, I would like to see the “Event” continue on a different network. I think the showrunners can get the show back on track.
The networks are ruining themselves. I’m not a huge tv watcher but very loyal to a few favorite shows. I do not watch reality or sitcoms( except 21/2 men, which I dropped after watching a few without Charlie this season) and hate cop shows. The last 3 series I started watching have been canceled after one season. If they are going to air a season cliff hanger they owe their fans a conclusion. I have vowed not to watch anymore new series because it will leave me disappointed and frustrated when it gets canceled. Hopefully others will do the same, maybe the networks will stop screwing their fans. If I want to watch tv I will find a movie on cable or watch hgtv. My time spent on the networks will be reduced to zero once my long time favorite shows go off the air. Currently I only watch 4 hours of network tv on 2 nights the other 4-6 hours I watch are on cable channels.
Sean’s violence was not meant to show him as manly or heroic, but simply desperate. A human trait. In the end, the “aliens” weren’t much different.

Sadly, the show really picked up in the last third of the season. Last few episodes have been truly excellent — partly by making Sophia the out-and-out villain of the series, instead of splitting it between her and her son Thomas. I’m hoping that with the ratings being bad all along, but the show survived, that the creators can give viewers a mini-resolution in the final two episodes.

I completely agree. SyFy has almost completely done away with science fiction. If I want to watch horror, I’ll turn to Chiller. If I want reality, I’ll turn to the Reality Channel. And If I want wrestling I would have watched it when it was on TNT or Spike or whoever had it. I like Sci-Fi, but I can hardly stand to watch SyFy anymore.
I love The Event from beginning to end. Obviously, from some of the posts I’ve seen on here, some only saw the first couple of episodes. The characters have been steadily evolving and the similarities to Lost have fallen by the wayside. The execs at NBC need to read these posts and listen to their viewers.

The Event and V have taught network executives an important lesson in the last year.
Lesson:
You cannot take long breaks that go for a month or longer in the first season of a serial-type TV series.
The Tablet Generation isn’t going to sit around and wait for your series to come back after a break.

All of the new shows I watched were canceled (all, every last one of them). They all had breaks in between. I’m very disapointed with the networks, I’m not sure what I’m going to do. I think I might watch the long term shows like Fringe, House, L&O:SVU, CSI: Vegas, Miami and NY and of course most of whats on FX.
Theres only one network I’m happy with and thats FX.
When FX releases a new season of a show, there is a new episode every week. Nip/Tuck, The Shield, Justified, Damages and Sons…. there seasons were short (to short). but every week there was a new episode.
Be glad that Fringe survived the FOX killing spree. It seems to be the lone sci-fi survivor. Good thing too.
I completely agree. I absolutely love The Walking Dead On AMC but come on now it has been done for months now and no new series until November?? What is that all about? Same thing with The Big C on Showtime, been done for months and new season will be at end of June. Maybe these shows would generate better interest if they were on all year round. Why do you think soaps last so many years, because they keep people interested on a daily basis.
The last several episodes of the event have been thrilling. It has been on a whole new level and now I like Sean Walker, I hated him at first!
Only reason we knew the show was back on was cause it is set on DVR to record new episodes. Otherwise I would have missed it coming back. There are too many breaks and they are too long….serial shows need some continuity. JMHO
I agree with you on the continuity factor. Taking a 3 month break in the middle of the season was ridiculous. If it does go on, perhaps it will do like 24 did and not begin until January.

First of all, your cocaine jokes aren’t even funny. Who even says that anymore? Secondly, clearly, you’re the one on cocaine. What does the network have to do with how the show was edited? The Exec meant the marketing leading up to the launch, which was actually really well done and had a lot of people excited to see what all the fuss was about, which was reflected early in the ratings. The premiere was a bit of an acquired taste but I actually didn’t mind it. It made sense if you paid attention and they stopped it in the second episode. This show does have fans – myself included – and I would continue watching it if it hit Netflix or another network. The only reason this show lost this much traction is because NBC can’t carry a new show after the 5th or 6th episode and that ridiculous 3 month break they took.

I too concur that the cocaine jokes are best suited to Charley Harper being replaced with cougar victim, Ashton. I ask though, why is it that “Chuck” gets a renewal nod and “The Event” doesn’t? NBC apparently doesn’t care about story neither. i think the hiatus given to the show was to weed out the ridiculous time fucking jumps in the show that made as much sense as king of the hill being on for like 55 years.And why not USA or SYFY or SciFi what are they doin. Speaking about NBC affiated tv channels and science fiction what happened to The 4400. we should send nbc peanuts or whatever got Jericho season 2 for anyone who is aware of that and if anyone really wants toget in on a under appreiciated great show watch FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST:BROTHERHOOD OR 24.Lost was i want to reiterrate was bad i mean really smoke worms,smoke on my worm NBC.

Actually, it does. On facebook, The Event has almost a quarter million individuals who ‘like’ it. There is a niche of viewers who are into The Event. Me included. It found itself in this season. I agree that Sophia makes a great heavy, and Bill Smitrovich makes for an incredibly complex on one hand, and bumbling on another, Vice President.
The fan base will be heard from, and they will be there to support the next iteration of this great series.
I find your comments a little bit ignorant and American-centric. I think you’re forgetting about the 200 territories into which the show has been sold and broadcast, which has doubtless created many fans around the world in countries which you probably couldn’t place on a map.
So, yeah, there is definite incentive to continue the show, not only for the fans watching from America, but also for the broadcasters overseas who are having success with the first season and would no doubt pick up the second.
Yeah, I’m in the UK and adore the show. I don’t want to use past tense, as I am hopeful it will return
Channel 4 in the UK only made a mess of the scheduling because of the fiasco with the hiatus, which was out of their control.
If an American network doesn’t pick it up, then I hope maybe a British one will.

True to a point Graham, but BBC does the same. Syfy has picked up Merlin, dropped from NBC, and I have seen all 3 seasons, but people tend to forget the series when season 2 ended in 2010 and can’t see season 3 in the US until 2012. Tahnk goodness I found season 3 online.
There is a dedicated fan base out there that is actually growing.
There are people who are actually coming up to me because they watched the last few episodes and loved it. Now there asking me to bring them up to speed. There is room for character growth and if the series continues I hope that will be pursued.
Well, I hope anyone who picks this how up hires new writers. The ones they have now are gawdawful. They wouldn’t know what a plot twist was if a pretzel came up to them and kicked them in the crotch.
Writing wise, it started off badly in the first half of the season but once it returned, their last 5-6 episodes have been world class.
Seriously? Who on earth would buy this thing? I don’t exactly hear an army of people clamoring for the show to continue…

I love the show…..it is worth waiting for, it would be disappointing for this show to simply go away. I hope somebody pick it up. I am a soldier, (Army) I truely feel the energy from the show. NBC don,t pull this show..don,t make a mistake like (Bay Watch. (Someone please be smart here.

Listen, this show is great. I am so tired of reality shows. Give me back REAL television. Blair Underwood and the cast members are trulely excellent actors. The show keeps me in suspense and I, among many of my frieds enjoy this show. Please keep this one. NBC you made one BIG mistake by taking Jay Leno off of the Tonight Show. Don’t be stupid again. The Emmys should go to The Event, The Good Wife and Jay Leno.

And again I ask … what genius came up with these horrifically long breaks between seasons? I can’t even get into Nurse Jackie anymore.
I agree…. that just nuts and all but guarantees that you will lose what viewers you have. It happened to me before and I just began to watch something else and never went back.
How crazy to take such along break…it’s like offering a product…then pulling it from the shelf for months, them placing it back on the shelf in a different location….The network needs a new marketing department!
keep the show on…build your fan base….but don’t starve them…they will have to go somewhere else to satisfy their ” hunger “
The long breaks started back during the writers strike several years ago and someone thought they were a good idea, so they kept them. Obviously, they don’t realize that these breaks are the reason so many good shows have lost out on viewership. The main reason people watch all of the reality shows is because they are designed for shorter seasons and they don’t take breaks in the middle. LISTEN TO YOUR VIEWERS NOT THE RATINGS!
I love this show and know a lot of others that do too. You’ve given us hope that our beloved characters might not come to an end! I do hope someone grabs it. It has the potential to be a huge hit. Seriously.
I have enjoyed The Event and agree with those who think it has picked up the last few episodes. If it has to be canceled, I wish they would at least give us a conclusion. I get so frustrated watching an ongoing series only to have it canceled with “no ending.”
The EVENT is kinda flat in spots but the premise is intriguing enough for me to follow it. I hope they find better writers and a more supporting network if they choose to continue the show. I really want to know if the 2 groups in the story would go on all-out war. Terrorism, EM weapons, radioactive crap in your coffee, biological warfare – this is something ripped from the headlines.
release those actors for better shows please!
No surprise here and no sympathy either. It failed to hold viewers for many reasons, some because NBC, but in my opinion the pacing of and premise of the show didn’t pair well and it was just a plodding bore as it went on.
Glad to see a spot open for something new. I’d hate to see NBC bring this AND Chuck back. If you’re not pulling in the ratings then you’re cancelled.
Bring back “The Event”, everytime we get involved in these shows you guys take them off. Who cares about Dancing with the stars,the biggest loser.,the bachelor. i liked OC, October Road, Vegas, Jerieco,Witches of eastwick,The V, Off the Map, and 24 .You guys took them off. And some of the soaps they took off.All there is anymore is these realality shows.And talk shows.How about putting some soaps on at night I bet people would watch them.Instead of takeing them off. and further more who wants to watch something and get interested in it . sorry Its canceled!
shut up, dude. you’re prancing around talking like you know stuff, but clearly you don’t. hey, there’s millions of others out there like you trying to make up your knowledge as you go along.
The problem with all of these shows is that the plots are structured as if they are going to be on the air for five years so they pace things out REALLY SLOWLY. (See: V, Flashforward, The Event, Caprica, etc.)
Then… when the reality of bad ratings sets in, the shows kick into hyperdrive and start delivering the type of twists and turns viewers wanted from the very beginning. (See: V, Flashforward, The Event, Caprica, etc.)
Then when the inevitable cancellation comes, what few fans are left scream “But it was just getting good…” (See: V, Flashforward, The Event, Caprica, etc.)
Advice to future genre serial showrunners… plan every episode like it was your last. Just like the better seasons of LOST and 24. And THEN… you might just have the success of those shows.
“V” just sucked. Bad writing overwhelmed it. I’m embarrassed for its writing team.
Caprica failed because it wasted the first half of the series and should have picked up the pace. SyFy wanted Caprica to be a soap opera. The problem with that is that it wasn’t a very good sci-fi soap like its predecessor, Battlestar Galactica or even 24. There was too little action and not enough time spent on bringing the main characters together faster.
Had Caprica been given another season, I think it could have done much better. The show was hurt from the beginning by the bad choice of releasing the pilot 6 months before the series began.
You’re forgetting Dollhouse–WAY TOO SLOW in the first season and then got faster and faster till it was canceled. (This was partially executive meddling, though, if you watch the unaired pilot you see how much faster Joss wanted to take the plot)
I’d say Caprica failed because its characters weren’t very likeable/there wasn’t really anyone to root for or care about. Also while it tried to appeal to women by having more of them than BSG did, all of them except Laci were misogynistic stereotypes–it only gave their sexism more time to shine. See also: gay assassin WHAT. (Also the way they did ethnicity made no sense at all.)
I hope “The Event” gets picked up somewhere else! The pilot was excellent, things bogged down for a few episodes, but then the writing, direction, and plots got much better after the break. I stayed involved and mysself and others truly looked forward to the next week’s episode. But that midseason break! It has killed more than one intriguing show (i.e. Flash Forward. Let’s hope “The Event” lives on!
I agree with you, I do hope the show goes on if not at NBC somewhere else where they care to carry on a good show. I’m waiting for the new season of The Event, wherever and whenever it will be on the air.
The last half of this season has been great. Captivating. And I love Taylor Cole. Please, somebody pick this show up!
This show is so good! The first episodes weren’t the best but the second half of the season is just HIGH END TV! All the dumb whiners in here should go and watch more awesome reality shows!

The real Big Lesson of The Event is exactly the same as Stargate Universe: do not start slowly. Come out of the gate fast, hook audience immediately, and don’t let them go. Remember the end of the first episode of Lost? “Guys- where are we?” Perfect.
The first episode of The Event did have a great ending (with the plane being transported), but the rest of it was way too convoluted. And they went episode after episode where nothing really happened.
Those who say the show improved greatly in the second half of the season are right – but by then, the audience had given up. The days when a show could build audience a la Cheers are apparently behind us…
I was glued to episode 1. Episode 2 was slow and confusing. By episode 3, the show was background noise while I fooled around on my laptop. By episode 5 I had forgotten to turn the TV on Monday nights. Bad, lumbering, dull, ugly execution in the first 10 eps does not earn renewal.
All of those flashback also were annoying. Flashback used in moderation can be a great storytelling vehicle but in this case it hurt more than anything.
