The networks normally pull their big guns in the fall with a few exceptions, like Fox’s 24 and American Idol and ABC’s Lost. But word is that NBC may be shifting a lot of resources to midseason when the network is expected to get a boost from the Super Bowl (barring an implosion of the football season because of the NFL-players negotiations), the Golden Globes and possibly breakout reality hit The Voice. “You want to be on NBC in midseason,” one industry insider said. The Voice, which has not been formally renewed yet, of course will return for a second season. Since its first cycle won’t conclude until end of June, it feels better suited for midseason but there is speculation that NBC may summon it for fall. There is also talk that the network may pair the hot singing competition with one of NBC’s hottest new dramas, which also features music elements, the Broadway-themed Smash. And, as we previously noted, NBC is considering opening a female-skewing comedy block midweek.

WHAT? This is the dumbest idea ever. If The Voice comes back in fall it will tank. NBC already killed Deal or no Deal by overexposing it.
Given that NBC hasn’t had to schedule Fall Sunday nights for like 6 years won’t they have to have a schedule A and schedule B depending on a NFL strike? I’d guess no strike Voice midseason. With a strike it goes to the fall.
On the one hand, The Voice is better suited for midseason. On the other hand, using it as a lead-in for Smash is a great Idea.
How great are the Playboy/ Smash pilot scripts?
I’m dying to know.
I was upset when Fox cancelled there reality channel, glad to see NBC has started one.
Yup I think that’s the best. Smash will do way better with The Voice’s lead-in.
It is very sad about the tv show the event being cancelled. Many loved this show. Too bad we can’t get the network to reconsider this very bad decision.
Whatever they decide, VOICE needs to be on ONCE a year only. I vote for midseason. If they go in fall they’ll need to start auditions in a month or two.
The NBC schedule looks as bleak as every other year. One decent show isn’t enough. The network is still in last place. The “industry insider” who says “You want to be on NBC midseason” is obviously actually an “NBC insider.”
Between the ridiculous musical show and the same lame and new sit coms, NBC will finish last next season as well.
Indeed people have been saying that NBC would be dumb not to have ‘THE VOICE’ on it’s fall schedule. I’d rather have it midseason but i think it would still work in fall.
The production would be rushed and am just wondering if the star coaches on the show aren’t planning on touring in the summer.
But am with Nellie on this,it does make good sense to bring out the big guns come midseason. Can tomorrow come already so we can see NBC’s schedule!!! (which will probably change if FOX suprises us with a different programming for ‘The X Factor’. Oh, and the brit orig could tank big time given that already 3 of the 4 judges aren’t coming back.)
