EXCLUSIVE: Baz Luhrmann has found his Jordan Baker for The Great Gatsby, his 3D adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s famed novel for Warner Bros. She’s newcomer and fellow Aussie Elizabeth Debicki, who’s coming straight from the Victorian College of the Arts. She will play the famed golfer and love interest of narrator Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) in the update, which already has set Maguire as Carraway, Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby and Carey Mulligan as Daisy. “It was a surprising result, but Elizabeth’s grasp of the material and her chemical connectivity to Tobey Maguire, in addition to her striking, athletic appearance, had us in a place where we were fully confident and ready to take the leap of giving the role of Jordan Baker to what, I guess, people would term ‘a discovery,’ ” Luhrmann said. “We are thrilled.”
As for the role of Daisy’s husband Tom Buchanan, producers are bearing down on their man. The part was originally offerd to Ben Affleck before he had to bow out due to a scheduling conflict with his next directing project, Argo.

I hope its Bradley Cooper….
Jon Hamm would be great as Tom Buchanan.
What does 3-D have to do with THE GREAT GATSBY ???
I understand if it was Baz’s Romeo and Juliet – I get that. Moulin Rouge…sure. But don’t bastardize the book Baz ?
Dear Mr. Studio Head – PLEASE READ THE BOOK. PLEASE ! They even have it on tape. You can even watch it with Robert Redford. Or Paul Rudd.
I don’t need to see a Jazz Age Party scene where a guy is going to spill his Maritini in my lap in 3 Dimensions for 14bucks !!!! Really it’s okay. I’m getting enough visual stimulation in my life with x-box.
Just go ahead and re-release Moulin and Romeo in 3D. Skip this one.
I think 3D is an inglourious idea. Baz’s THE GREAT GATSBY is sure to be the ultimate basterdization of literature.
I agree. It’s pretty obvious they’re trying to cash in on the 3D craze but this is pointless.
i think luhrmann has veritably channeled what fitzgerald ardently believed the ideal way to experience gatsby should have been, because surely he thought to himself while composing it, “my effortlessly evocative and symbolic language just doesn’t do this justice. IMAX 3-D coupled with Dolby Digital sound is the only true way to fully experience gatsby.”
Tom Hardy for Tom Buchanan
He’s filming the Dark Knight Rises. So forget it.
I know he’s Leo’s friend and that’s why he’s in it, but Tobey Maguire is so, so very wrong for Carraway.
Also, is that you Bradley Cooper at first reply?
I don’t know, I kind of dig the casting so far. I can totally see Tobey as Nick and Leo as Gatsby.
I see absolutely no reason for this remake/adaptation/re-envisioning as both actors should concentrate on doing something original – hello, INCEPTION and SHUTTER ISLAND (while an adaptation was at least not a remake) were both great. Why waste your time with material that was a trainwreck the first time around?
Oh wait, cause it’s literature in 3D. Oh boy, can’t wait for that one. I hope all the beautiful shirts come flying out at our face, “I’ve never seen such beautiful shirts before.”
With each announcement — from the idea of 3D — to the casting, this project is the car wreck we all want to rubberneck for.
It sounds so bad it’s deliciously awful, and therefore fun to see how Hollywood will again bastardize/bowdlerize a great American novel.
No need to worry about the desecration. Anybody who really cares about the work will read the book, then laugh at the movie, just as those of us old enough to remember Redford’s version did.
Nothing says 3D like F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Please, Hugh Jackman as Tom Buchanan- especially because he continues make horrible film choices.
ugh thats all you need to totally butcher the great gatsby, a 3-d screen for incompetent actors
Fact: She’s a brilliant actress.
For some reason this project excites me about as much as a bad rash.
I can absolutely see Leo as Gatsby and same for Toby as Carraway but I’m having a very hard time with the Carey Mulligan casting choice. Daisy is supposed to be unforgettably beautiful and that ideal kind of beauty really doesn’t come to mind when I think of Mulligan. Oh well I’m sure other people will like her well enough in the role…
