EXCLUSIVE: Nickelodeon has picked up live-action music comedy pilot How To Rock Braces and Glasses to series with a 20-episode order. The show starring 14-year-old singer/actress/dancer Cymphonique Miller will be titled How To Rock. It features original music and centers on a teen girl (Cymphonique) who becomes the lead singer of a pop/hip hop band. Cymphonique’s casting in the project stems from a substantial talent development deal Nickelodeon signed with the teen in December 2009. Based on Alloy Entertainment’s book How to Rock Braces and Glasses, the series is slated to begin production this summer in Los Angeles for a 2012 premiere. “Cymphonique is an extraordinarily talented 14-year-old who has already established herself as an actress, singer and dancer, while remaining an honor student, and How To Rock is the perfect showcase for her comedic and musical skills,” said Marjorie Cohn, Nickelodeon’s President, Development and Original Programming. Cymphonique’s father, hip-hop entrepreneur Percy Miller, aka Master P, is expected to be involved in the music for How To Rock, which joins Nickelodeon’s growing stable of music-themed shows that includes recent entries Victorious and Big Time Rush. On How To Rock, after a fall from grace from the perfect and popular group at high school, Kacey Simon (Cymphonique) forges unlikely friendships with the members of the band Gravity featuring Stevie (Lulu Antariksa), Zander (Max Schneider) and Nelson (Noah Crawford). As lead singer, Kacey helps Gravity’s musical success while igniting a musical rivalry with The Perfs featuring her former best friends and fellow performers, Molly (Samantha Boscarino) and Grace (Halston Sage). Comedy veteran Jim O’Doherty (Grounded for Life) wrote the pilot script for How To Rock based on Alloy’s book and a book proposal authored by Meg Haston. Another broadcast comedy veteran, David M. Israel (Grounded for Life), will helm the series as executive producer and a contributing writer. Alloy’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo will also executive produce. The pilot was directed by Beth McCarthy-Miller, who is going 3-for-3 this pilot season. On the broadcast side, she directed the ABC comedy pilots Man Up! and Work It, both of which were picked up to series. This marks the fourth new series order for Alloy in the past few months, following the pickups for Nine Lives and The Lying Game at ABC Family and The Secret Circle at the CW. How to Rock is Alloy’s seventh on-air series overall and the first half-hour comedy. Cymphonique, repped by Buchwald/Fortitude, follows in the footsteps of her brother, actor-rapper Romeo. Romeo, then billed as Lil’ Romeo, was 9 when his father brought him to Nickelodeon, where the youngster headlined his own series for four seasons. Cymphonique, who has performed with Romeo, JoJo, Wonder Girls, Raven-Symone and Ashley Tisdale, voices a character on Disney Channel’s Phineas & Ferb and has guest starred on the Nickelodeon series’ Big Time Rush, True Jackson VP, The Troop and

this girls name should be considered child abuse
I was thinking the same thing! Her parents should be sentenced to a good smack right across their faces. Ugh. Why do parents do this to their children???
Does anyone else thinks its kind of creepy that someone only 14 years old has THREE descriptives to their resume’? I’m referring to “singer/actress/dancer”. At 14, I was Chris, “kid”.
They probably exagerate – she mya be able to do these things, just not very well and that is where auto tuning, editing, etc comes in. These kids shows just needs a decent enough looking person and the “magic” of Hollywood takes over
She sang on the song “I know, You know” by Big Time Rush. Danced in part of the “music video” and acted in one of their TV episodes. “Big Time Girl Group”.
Hence, singer/actor/dancer! =)
No idiot how can does it’s creepy she’s a singer, dancer, and actress she’s doing what she love do to her dreams not yours and when you don’t have something nice to write don’t.That’s what i learn at school.
why not me how to rock, thats why you guys dont know how to rock!!!!
Is this a Tommy Lynch show?
Teenager joins professional band? Sounds like a total rip-off of Disney’s “I’m in the Band”, but with pop instead of rock music.
Didn’t she just score a BET Award nomination for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist this past week??? I had no idea she was 14 and daughter of Master P!
i know i remeber that song
Cymphony would roll off the tongue better but hey unusual names seem to be the norm.
I just realized that she’s had this cult teen following with her music. I’m old enough to be her mom so there’s no way I could have known. Her brother Romeo seems like he’s being groomed to be heir apparent to Will Smith in films. Let’s wait and see.
I was not a fan of hers when she guest starred on Big Time Rush. Honestly this show sounds like something that has been done before. Maybe a cross between “Ned’s declassified survival tips” and “Victorious”.
I am thinking her parents must live door. My dog’s name is Cymphony and my daughter’s name is Monique. I must call these names 50 times a week and they become inspired!
Bunny Sunny and Daisy And Bridy And Manny And BaBs And Tia and mom and dad end
Okay, I liked and read the book, and the way they make this show seem, is not impressing me! She joins a rock group, not pop/hip hop?! I advise people to read the book and not see the show, trust me. The book was amazing!!! I’m going to do more research on this show anyway. I hope its like the book!
i love her! from johanna
i love cymphonique
Its not a professional band dummy she joins a band without a singer and she is better then u so stop hating

how to rock is a good story about a girl that has a dream that she want to be a famus singer but along the way she made a band with some inceredible muisc and I wish I could grow up like you Cymphonique your band is so awesome.
