OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network will preempt its regular programming from 4-5 PM ET when the finale of The Oprah Winfrey Show will air in most East Coast markets to run a message directing viewers to the finale. The cable channel is also planning six days of special Oprah-themed programming May 25-May 30 every night at 8:00 PM ET/PT, and from 11AM-6 PM ET/PT Memorial Day Weekend. “We couldn’t think of a more appropriate way to honor Oprah than for OWN to celebrate her ongoing legacy and enormous contribution to daytime television,” said Peter Liguori, OWN’s interim CEO. “We will all be watching this truly historic event.” Winfrey’s hiatus from the small screen will be brief as she is slated to launch her new nighttime show, Oprah’s Next Chapter, on OWN in January 2012.

LOL! This is just a publicity stunt. No one is watching OWN anyway. They could air a test pattern and no one would notice or care.
Actually, they could have scheduled the last show on OWN, or at least the celebrity-studded finale shows to try and get people to watch.

Honestly, it’s almost as if OWN is trying on purpose to suck.
Note to OWN: You are one of hundreds of specialty channels that almost NO ONE is watching. Seriously – the only reason you can exist at all is because cable companies don’t allow a la carte selection of channels. There’s some discussion in Congress about passing a bill to force cable companies to offer a la carte. If they do – 70% of the ‘little’ channels will evaporate overnight. But thanks for playing.
Amen, Amen, Amen. A thousand times, Amen. And then maybe all the people who have deserted cable TV could afford it again. Imagine that, if cable TV operated just like most any other product on sale out there. Personally, I’ve (re)discovered just how much good stuff there is on broadcast TV, especially since the conversion from analog to digital.

I think Oprah is a real Icon.. yes.. but this is just beyond silly. They are doing this because Oprah is taking a short break after the LONG GOOD BYE is over. She is going to step in more and does not want any shows on while she is unavailable.
OWN is boring. And the shoes all feel like a Poor me feast. I honestly tried to tune in for a week and just couldn’t do it. I use to watch Oprah everyday when I got home from school or work. The last year of her show was just unwatchable.

You know what – enough. You people are terrible. Cable channels are NOT built in 4 months – are you kidding me? When did that thing go live – January? Those comments above, some I can hear from people in the industry are ridiculous.
1. Oprah will now have more time to devote to OWN and will give more time to it (though not all, she plans to pull back.
2. Can’t there be one channel out there for good that doesn’t just run CRAP? Why can’t OWN be that?
3. OWN needs more time – I say give it 5 years – if both parties can financially support that and THEN write the comments above.
4. Vanity channel? You obviously don’t know, watch or read much about Oprah Winfrey. Yes, the woman is into herself, you have to be to get to that level but she’s also done SO MUCH good that can not be overlooked.
5. The going dark thing? Okay I agree – that’s a dumb idea. But I would expect that from Liguori – good guy but not a good fit for OWN. They REALLY need to find someone to run that thing. Liguori is not the right guy. Why not one of these female execs at the television studios ripe for the picking? I could name a list now.
