EXCLUSIVE: Paget Brewster will continue on CBS’ crime drama Criminal Minds next season, while new series regular Rachel Nichols won’t return. Meanwhile, co-star Thomas Gibson still doesn’t have a deal for next season, with negotiations ongoing.
I hear CBS and series’ producer ABC Studios have exercised the option they have on Brewster and opted not to pick up Nichols. As part of Brewster’s modified deal for Criminal Minds last season, which included her doing fewer episodes, she got an out to do a pilot. Brewster used the opportunity and did a pilot, NBC’s comedy My Life as an Experiment, which didn’t make the cut to series. Bewster’s pilot was in first position to Criminal Minds but ABC Studios had an option to bring the actress back to the CBS drama if the pilot didn’t go to series and has now exercised that option. 
With Brewster and original cast member and fan favorite A.J. Cook returning to the crime drama alongside Kirsten Vangsness, there wasn’t much room left for Nichols, whose character Ashley Seaver was introduced last season in part to fill the void left by the departure of Cook’s JJ. As for Gibson, I hear Criminal Minds producers want him back. He got warm reception by international buyers at the L.A. Screenings this week where he appeared with other cast members of the veteran CBS crime drama. Co-star Shemar Moore, whose deal was also up at the end of this season, signed a new one earlier this month.

Glad to hear that Paget Brewster is coming back… Though the drama surrounding J.J’s and Paget’s is a bit silly now!
what drama they barely interact I mean ya they had you know seprate dramas with JJ thre was stuff going on with her and then brewsters drama but brewster was not fired it had to do with the contract and stuff but yes I am happy brewster is comming back to crimmnal minds

Now what was THAT all about? They get rid of 2 female characters all at once, then bring them back. Who’s running the ship over there? While they’re at it, BRING BACK SUSPECT BEHAVIOR. All they needed were better writers. The show was getting better right when they killed it.
I agree….bring back Suspect Behavior!! The show was just starting to pick up speed and evolve. It is so sad that they canned it. I hope they at least work it into a cross over appearance with Criminal Minds. The red cells are very much needed!!
I heartily disagree. CMSB could have been a terrific show (love the very talented Forest Whitaker) but CBS’s decision to dismantle the original CM in deference to the new show was a huge mistake.
CMSB could have had a built in audience had CBS not made such poor choices…the first of which being continuing to enable Charlie Sheen as long as they did.
The out of work actors can thank Sheen and CBS for truly appalling behavior.

Forest Whitaker (friend of Sheen’s family by the way..ha) is a great actor but his show did not have the ratings CBS wanted simple as that..Charlie Sheen sitcom (and sitcoms makes them more money with the reruns, syndication system ect..) was the most watched comedy show/sitcom on tv for years..Ratings talk first for networks..hello ratings = money..and still they finally fired Sheen when he finally did not play by their rules..so your accusations, insinuations ect..are stupid and silly.
Hmm, Dee is Dumb, you can’t seem to connect the dots. Who cares that Whitaker is friends with the Sheen family? Irrelevant. The point is that CBS poured millions of dollars into Sheen, and overlooked his self-destructive behavior. It is true that the show had good ratings, but CBS had blinders on where Sheen was concerned, consistently ignoring his nutty, dangerous, and illegal antics, while paying him a grossly exorbitant salary. Where do you think the money to do that came from? Other shows. Other shows with sane, rational, talented, and non-imploding actors. The changes to CM were budget-based; they admitted they canned Paget and AJ for monetary reasons. Perhaps if they hadn’t been so busy filling Sheen’s nose, they could have afforded these rock solid actresses and saved themselves the headache.
This makes me very happy to hear this, I am so glad that things are going back to the way they should have been LEFT! The old saying is true “If it ain’t broken…. Don’t fix it! The fans finally got what they wanted! Now with some luck CBS will leave well enough alone.
I’m happy Seaver’s leaving. And I’m exceptionally happy AJ Cook, and Paget Brewster are coming back! The show just wasn’t the same without either of them. Thomas Gibson needs to get a contract though next year. It won’t be the same at all. They need to stop changing the cast. They have to keep Thomas!

I am so happy for Paget, we really miss her and she belongs in CM, that is her home!!!! I am sad for Rachel though, she has been the biggest victim here. Also I so hope Thomas returns, there is totally no CM without him.
I’m glad to see Paget back, but I feel that the whole arc last season was a waste. Oh well, back to the same great format! Let’s just forget season six even happened.

I feel bad for Rachel, but she wasn’t great. Hopefully she’ll learn to not hold her mouth funny to try to get the pouty look all the time and loosen up a bit so she doesn’t move like she’s got a stick up her bum. Maybe work on the voice a bit too as it sounds “nose-jobby”. But she’s pretty when she stands still…

Yippee!!!!! Paget Brewster is back! I know, in a lot of ways I had hoped her pilot would take off so she could say, “Neener, neener, CBS, up your’s!” but I did so want my Prentiss back on the show. Now they just need to re-sign Thomas Gibson. They’re on a roll with good decisions, so let’s not break that streak CBS. As for Rachel Nichols, she wasn’t fired. She just didn’t have her option picked up, not that she was fired. Her time simply ran out and they opted not to extend it. She was a poor fit for the show anyway with an absolutely ridiculous character to play.
I’m glad that Paget and JJ are back. Rachel Nichols was just, I don’t know, bland. She also looked so much lake JJ that if you weren’t paying attention, you’d forget it wasn’t her. As for Thomas Gibson, for some reason he kind of gets on my nerves. He’s always so grim and humorless.
actually if you hear anyone of Thomas Gibson’s friends or co-workers on any of the shows he’s been on they all say he’s freaking hilarious and a prankster. It’s just he’s so good at playing the super serious Hotch that makes it believable.
and YAY Paget’s back and Rachel’s gone. Now they need to ink a new deal with Thomas so everything can go back to the way it was at CM. And to never ever mess with that show again, the only good thing to come out of Season 6 was Prentiss’ big story but did you see they totally dropped the ball with Reid’s headache storyline? where’d that go?

And judging by your subtle and elegant comment, you are the EXPERT on manners. Ashley Seaver was a character on a TV show and nobody has to apologize for not liking her or for thinking she didn’t fit in with the rest of the show, but that doesn’t mean we also hate the actress who played her. 99% of the fans who dislike the character think Rachel Nichols was put in the middle of a bad situation through no fault of her own and wish her all the best in her future projects.

Seaver’s leaving?!?! YAY!! This news has made my day. I’ll be tuning in for S7 now. I stopped watching S6 because of that ludicrous character. And I’m SO glad that Paget is coming back too. Her and AJ should never have been dropped in the first place.

Rachel Nichols was originally only signed on to do a few episodes so she was lucky to have gotten as many as she did. Her character is totally unnecessary.
