With Fox done with its series orders and NBC pretty much done too, attention is focusing on ABC and CBS. ABC is expected to make its series pickups tomorrow. Here is the latest buzz on the two networks:
ABC
Assured to get series orders are early frontrunners GOOD CHRISTIAN BITCHES and CHARLIE’S ANGELS, along with the modern fairy tale ONCE UPON A TIME. Shonda Rhimes’ PR drama SCANDAL looks solid, with one or both of PAN AM and procedural IDENTITY also expected to get a green light. Thriller THE RIVER is rumored for an order, though it’s unclear if it will be a regular or limited-series one. Other possibilities on the drama side include the Hamptons-set REVENGE, which has been gathering momentum, and Marc Cherry’s HALLELUJAH, possibly for midseason with some retooling, while 1840s detective show POE has been fading.
On the comedy side, the TIM ALLEN pilot, APT. 23 and SUBURGATORY are considered a go, with SMOTHERED, WORK IT and BAD MOM as possibilities.
CBS
With CBS’ most guarded secret — who will replace Charlie Sheen — out, a lot of the intrigue surrounding CBS’ presentation next week is gone. Luckily, we still have series pickups and schedule to try to figure out. On the drama side, the rise of the J.J. Abrams/Jonah Nolan crime drama PERSON OF INTEREST remains in what is considered a frontrunner status. Ensemble cop drama ROOKIES and procedural THE REMEMBERER also appear strong. PI show HAIL MARY, starring Mini Driver, is still a possibility, with the Sarah Michelle Gellar Lottie and Lisa-style mystery RINGER a dark horse. Meanwhile, early frontrunner SUSANNAH GRANT has been losing momentum.
On the comedy side, with Michael Patrick King available after NBC passes on A Mann’s World, his hot comedy pilot with Whitney Cummings TWO BROKE GIRLS, which had faced uncertainty after NBC picked up Cummings’ comedy pilot, should be able to return to frontrunner status alongside HOW TO BE A GENTLEMAN.
And at CW, THE SECRET CIRCLE and HART OF DIXIE continue to be the clear frontrunners.

Poe was the only ABC pilot was looking forward to.
Oh well.
Yes, POE was a great idea but a TERRIBLE script.
Looking forward to G.C.B. and Once Upon. But right now I want CBS to pick up Ringer so very much. I have to hope that they’ll change the title to the Rememberererer. Terrible.
“The Rememberer” is a working title.
Me too!! I Want Poe!! I want tabrett bethell!! xD
NBC? … done? …Chelsea Handler’s sitcom?
I thought it was a very cool script. The writing was quirky and strange but felt well paired with the material. I’m still thinking it will go.
Is “Scandal” the pilot with Kerry Washington, previously “Damage Control”?
yup! it’s great…
Yup. And it’s good!
Love Kerry Washington and now there is something to look forward to on ABC!
Yup! And it’s embarrassingly bad. Script was ludicrous.
For the love of God, please pick up Bad Mom!
I’m bummed about Partners on ABC. Surprised that it’s pretty much dead. I was really looking forward to seeing Annie Wersching again on TV and Scottie Thompson is also a nice touch too. Has anyone here seen it? Was it really that bad?
What happened to the days where we’d get to actually see the (often bad) pilots of shows never to be?
I really hope CBS picks up “Ringer”! It’s one of the few pilots I’m actually interested in.
Hoping for Hallelujah! Loved that cast!
Is CBS really picking up all those drama shows? I mean, they are probably renewing 2 or 3 of their bubble shows, so Im wondering if theres room for all of them.
Fox done? So no chance at all of Little in Common being picked up? God dammit, if that’s the case. I’m gonna be annoyed if we have to go another TV season without Rob Thomas/Dan Etheridge/John Enbom.
Rob Thomas had 3 or 4 projects at the start of this TV development season, now they’re pretty much all dead. He needs to make a permanent move to HBO or Showtime, ASAP. Commercial networks are not for you, Rob.
I believe Little In Common is still very much in the mix for midseason at Fox. Not dead.
So is Rookies a copy of the Canadian Rookie Blue, or just a rebadging of that series?
Likely neither. Rookie Blue already airs on ABC in the States during the summer.
Just a bad rip-off.
rookies is NOTHING like that cdn show. plus, there was a show called “rookies” in the 70s. rookies, though new aren’t a new idea.
Revenge looks fantastic. Playboy and Pan Am seem very much like Mad Men. A Mad Men type of show is the type of risk network tv should be taking.
i really wanted to see 17th preceinct on nbc
”along with the modern fairy tale ONCE UPON A TIME.”
I love Jennifer Morrison so I’m so happy!! She is my favourite actress and she is a LEAD!! Good jobs girl!
She have so talent!
Happy, happy, happy
Yay for “Ringer”! Can’t wait to see Sarah M Gellar back on primetime tv!
I hope ABC picks up Revenge, based on the synopsis it could be a great mini-series.
It’s really too bad broadcast nets don’t do mini-series/limited-run series anymore. Something that’s 4 to 13 eps going in, and that’s it. Or run summer replacement shows, remember those? 4-6 weeks and out. For the more way-out concepts that can’t stand full/multiple season orders. Are those models not profitable anymore?
I’ve seen shows here in Europe that didn’t last 13 weeks in the US, so you can’t tell me there’s no foreign sales on these shows.
Something like “Swingtown” that only lasted 13 weeks, a stretch for CBS programming-wise, something different with little downside for the network. If something like that hits, you’re in MadMen territory, prestige, Emmy love, etc.
Can someone in the know explain why these formats aren’t doable by networks anymore?
NBC was going to attempt to do this a couple years ago with a limited series run of Day One, but it never made it to air.
TV is produced at a defecit. They only really make their money back through syndication, and usually you need a hundred episodes (five seasons) to get syndicated. That’s why you only really see mini’s on premium cable or government-funded networks like BBC.
Oh Oh finally, is finally here, oh i’ve been waiting so long and now it’s here, I’m gonna cry a little and then i come back for read because it’s too much emotion!! :’(
Tony do you see this?? Uhuuuuul
I KNOW! FINALLLLLY!!!!!
TOO EMOTIONAL
great for Once upon a time !!!
Alrigh so the “Georgetown” pilot is really dead? That’s a shame because It was a great cast!!
“ABC is expected to make its series pickups tomorrow.” this was posted at 12:15 so we should expect the pickups for today or tomorrow?(I think that won’t be tomorrow ’cause I never see something like that in a Saturday!)
I knew it, I knew it, I knew it since I saw for the first time I knew it that they would be certain for pickups!! (I’m talking about the comedies TIM ALLEN pilot, APT. 23 and SUBURGATORY!)
Wow Revenge and HALLELUJAH with more chances than Poe? wow I thought that was certain to be series!
I don’t care the format of The River, I just care if is going to be
on television!
you took the words right out of my mouth. Seriously did those words come right out of my brain?
I’m beginning to think we ARE the same person
I didn’t misspell. I meant it how I did it. But good to know. I doubt its making it out of the gate otherwise.
Person of Interest sounds really good. Might have to check that one out.
Fingers crossed for “The Rememberer” and “Once Upon a Time”!
