Disney is in talks with Rachel Weisz to join James Franco and Mila Kunis in the Sam Raimi-directed Oz: The Great And Powerful. I’m told the Oscar winner will play Evanora, the meaner older witch sister of Theodora (Kunis). Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire wrote the script, and Joe Roth is producing. Production starts in the summer. Weisz is repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

My interest has shot up for this film 100% if Rachel is cast, great actress and one of the few who can actually act.
If this movie is any good, it’s going to be because of Weisz, who let’s face it is the only real actor cast in this film so far. Franco is a joke and Kunis is still a question mark.
Franco a joke? Um, have you seen PINEAPPLE EXPRESS, 127 HOURS, HOWL, MILK, EAT PRAY LOVE, JAMES DEAN, FREAKS & GEEKS, or even the SPIDER-MAN trilogy. Franco’s the real deal. Just cause he was a little stoned and underperformed at the Oscars doesn’t mean he doesn’t still have it to bring it on screen. Who cares about the Oscar show anyways – it’s just one big handjob of Hollywood congratulating itself. While not all the aforementioned films were top-notch, Franco’s performances were!!!
Love Weisz as well – particularly in CONSTANT GARDENER.

You clearly lack taste sir. I too agree with Laughing that Franco is one of the best young actors of our generation. He is the new Pacino, or more like the new Clooney, taking big budget roles so he can do the indie’s he’s passionate about. Again, like Tim, it appears you’re judging Franco solely on one live performance instead of his body of work that most older actors would kill for – especially with the directors he’s worked for.
Are you seriously holding the Oscar show up against Van Sant, Boyle, Raimi and Green? Who cares about the stupid Oscar show! And it’s great that he can make fun of himself, or have fun, making a movie like YOUR HIGHNESS, which I feel in years to come will become a cult hit like the Cheech and Chong movies, or HALF BAKED.
What the hell do you have against pot, or pot-smokers, anyways? Are you PEOPLE seriously, hating on James Franco because of the Oscars???? I think people are getting extremely desperate when the only thing to find to hate James Franco on is the Oscars, heck that man is such a multi-talented star and in the long run will be the next Clint Eastwood (I think he will be directing more and more instead of acting but if he continues to act then for sure take the crown off Robert de Niro and Al Pacino).
Remember: The Oscars that nobody watches anyway. Majority of people who are hating on James Franco didn’t even watch the Oscars live. They heard what happened via twitter or saw some versions of it via Youtube; before they thought they could join in the fun of hating him just because he’s so successful.
Have you taken so much pineapple express yourself or completely stupid to judge a man who has a brilliant body of films on one performance show, which I didn’t think either presenters did that badly.

Most people just skip to the best actor or supporting actor, actress or supporting actress and best film only plus the fashion.
Again, with modern technology, it doesn’t have to be that long a show (just give me a print out list of the winners) and anyone with a sane mind doesn’t hold this show against James Franco or Anne Hathaway unless your insanely jealous of their talent.

James Franco stated that he gave it his best go, whether it was good enough for you and others or not he did his best. The fact that he can live with himself (plus there are more important issues in the world than the Oscars, shock horror I know), I think it’s time to move on including the media. He also never said he was 100% perfect at everything but at least he likes to try everything.
Ever since James Franco did Freaks and Geeks plus Pineapple Express everyone thinks he’s always high in general. Why do people think just because a star gives an amazing performance, they are that character for real. What’s gone wrong with this generation??????? Can’t you separate fact from fiction.
That only proves he should have gotten an Oscar norm (Pineapple Express) for that role too and won. He might look tired sometimes because he has 50 projects on the go but it doesn’t mean he’s high folks. If he was high always he couldn’t concentrate on all his different projects.
The point is James Franco is a magnificent actor with credits (I feel should be listed again for the stupid) for Freaks and Geeks, James Dean (would have won an Oscar, if it wasn’t made for TV instead of a feature length film), Sonny, City by the Sea, Pineapple Express, Howl (again, should have picked up an Oscar norm at least), Milk, Date Night, Eat Pray Love, 127 Hours (which, I think he should have won an Oscar for since on screen he was by himself majority of the time instead of Colin Firth even though he gave an outstanding performance too).
Oh, regarding the Spider-Man trilogy, I get the feeling from the Spider-Man fans that he’s extremely loved. He did a good job for a popcorn movie.
Can’t wait to see James Franco in The Broken Tower, Maladies and The Iceman before this film comes out. He’s sure to get another Oscar norm for one of these films, if not finally win. Basically, the man will be winning plenty of Oscars in the future whether as an Actor or Director.
Someone, below mentioned Downey Jr, I say James Franco is a better actor so no problems there and I truly love love Downey Jr work too.
Let’s get back to Rachel Weisz really pleased for her; she’s an awesome actress and would have been my first choice in the first place. Her body of work speaks volumes. The whole cast is generally strong but seems to me underrated now they all have a chance to shine even more. I’m looking forward to this, let’s wait and see (they all give me strong confidence BUT remember it’s how the Director directs this too that makes the film a hit or miss)……

I think Mila Kunis is fantastic as is James Franco. I like Rachel Weiss but haven’t seen her do much lately. She’s a fine actress but isn’t she a little long in the tooth to be Mila’s older sister, I mean she’s like 15 years older then Mila! I would have liked to have seen someone closer in age personally. Angelina Jolie would have been perfect.

I don’t understand your problem because Rachel looks really like an older Mila Kunis. She is perfect for the role. AND she is still a better actress than Jolie.

Um, have you seen Franco in Spider-Man? He’s terrible. The stunted garbled speech pattern does not give an air of wealth to portray Harry Osborn. Franco was good in Freaks & Geeks but he’s playing too many stoners. His casting is odd here since Downey Jr was considered at one point. Weisz’ casting is VERY much welcomed becaus Kunis is very one note and undeservingly got an Oscar nod for a character with little dimension.
I want this film to be fun but I’m cautious with Oz because hey could really mess it up!

Kunis has never been nominated for an Oscar. She got a Golden Globe nom for BLACK SWAN, but no Oscar. I think she deserved it simply for the line, “Was I good?” Hilarious. Love her. Think she has real talent and we will see her progression as an actress.

Do you even know what you are trying to talk about? Franco’s last film bombed and Mila has not even held a film by herself.

Seriously, it depends what you consider a bomb. I think in years to come Your Highness will be a classic and no you don’t need to smoke something to enjoy it but everyone has different preferences. If people didn’t watch because of the Oscars (at least his remembered but I prefer his acting to speak volumes instead of one off show) than that’s just stupidity on a whole new level.
It’s funny, how some stars can have a hit with a film that doesn’t come into top 3 or 5 even though they made the top 10 but others are a bomb. If you both came in at no. 6 no matter the cost, it’s still a hit in my book (the number isn’t going to change it still reads no. 6 for both whatever the cost etc.).
All three stars are awesome, they will bring this film home and make it a hit.
Important: They all have other film roles in advance of this so, they will be even more well known (maybe all win some Oscars) by the time this comes out.
