These are the type of double-digit ratings gains network executives love to see their series hit in the season finales. Except when ratings don’t matter since the shows have already been canceled. All three recently axed Monday freshman series — NBC’s The Event and Law & Order: Los Angeles and Fox’s The Chicago Code — posted big week-to-week increases last night, which marked the final bow for The Event and Chicago Code and the last in-season episode of LOLA, which will finish its run over the next few weeks. The Event (1.5/4) was up 15% for its highest 18-49 rating since November. LOLA (1.4/5) was up 27%, and The Chicago Code (2.0/5) was up 11%. Meanwhile, returning series were down vs. their previous finales. Fox’s House (3.3/10) was down 23% from its season ender last May. The hourlong performance finale of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars (4.6/13, 22.2 million viewers) held up better, down 6% from the fall performance finale. Versus last spring’s cycle, the Monday Dancing closer was actually up, by 15% in 18-49 and 14% in total viewers, to draw the franchise’s largest audience for a spring performance finale. The premiere of The Bachelorette (2.8/7) was flat with last season’s debut. ABC easily won the night in 18-49 (3.4/9) and total viewers (13.6 million). CBS aired all repeats.

The show did get rating boost last night. So hopefully another network will take interest. We should check out the other alternative just in case.

Goodbye “Law & Order: LA” I am one fan who will miss you. I shake my fist at NBC. Shame!!!
I am right there with you! Why bother to retool this series at mid-season and then show absolutely no faith in the result? Last night’s epi was up 27%?? Does anyone think perhaps the show and its characters, esp. the new partnership of Morales and Jaurszalski, was just starting to click with viewers?
What a waste. Alfred Molina and Terrence Howard will be fine, but I hope we see more of Corey Stoll.
As will I. I really liked the revamp and it quickly became my favorite show…if only they had Alfred Molina and Corey Stole as partners from the beginning because it worked. And ill miss gawking at Alana De Garza who has just got to be the prettiest woman on tv EVER!!
I liked LOLA better before the reboot. I’m glad it is getting axed and the ratings still suck.
The problem with television is that it has no way in telling how many people actually watch their shows. I am not a part of the Neilsen family so what I watch doesn’t count -but I really liked The Event. It’s too bad that the networks are cutting their own throats by relying on antique methods on determining ratings. Like a lot of Americans I am turning more and more from the Broadcast networks because I’m tired of the shows I invest in getting cancelled. I guess it is the advertizers and budgetary decisions that really determines what stays on the air and what doesn’t.
I have to agree that the Event had a great ending. The show deserves to have a second season or at least a wrap-up movie.
That ending was one of the best damn cliffhangers I’ve ever seen!
I, too, liked “The Event” and am sad to see it go, especially with a cliffhanger like last night’s final episode. I hope the show finds another home.
I think the show had a promising start, but the story dragged shortly after. The hiatus didn’t help, either. But the final third of the season was getting interesting, and kept me tuning in week after week.
NBC…could you please give Law & Order:LA more of a chance? If not USA NETWORK think about airing it instead? NBC, you wonder why viewership is down? It is because people are tired of investing in shows that you do not give a chance.
Common NBC, give LAW & ORDER:LA more time. If not how about airing it on USA. How do you expect viewers to tune in when you don’t give shows a chance. The networks wonder why people are tuning out? They are tired of investing interest in shows that only last a few episodes.
Same here.
But even with the increases, the ratings for all of these canceled shows STILL STINK! I don’t see that fact being acknowledged in the article. Not one of them had a decent number. They all deserved to go to the big TV show crapper in the sky.
Agreed. LOLA is still Baaaaaaad. No real chemistry between the two lead cops. Should have kept Molina as the attorney — not enjoyable as a cop.
The Event has really hit is stride. The last episodes have been exceptional. Too bad NBC gave up. I think they have a hit.
Hopefully, that ratings boost helps The Event as it gets shopped around due to its success in foreign markets.
Man, I’m bummed that “The Event” got cancelled!!! It’s leading up to Dec. 21, 2012– and truly, we deserve to see what is going to happen to Sean & Leila!!!!
The only reason I stuck with The Event is because it was going to be cancelled. As a series it was terrible but as a self contained mini series it was watchable.
The Event started off well, then it started declining, all the Leila character did was be annoying as hell, run and scream and cry.
Of all the other characters only the CIA guy was watchable.
I am glad NBC pulled the plug on this crappy show. If they want to make a good mystery show they should simply hire good writers and not the awful ones they had helming this unwatchable garbage.
Lost was succesful because the characters were endearing, not poorly written walking cliches.
Lame show. Good riddance
Sad to see The Chicago Code go away, but the way it ended was satisfying.
Let’s see night rider, merlyn, heroes, and now the event I’m so done with NBC your a disappointment to your fans I’m sick of your crap your ratings are down because people are sick of investing there time in great shows just for you to cancel them my kids are pissed I’m pissed I’m done and I know atleast A hundred other people personally that are done maybe CBS deserve are watching because I won’t watch another show on NBC again
Fabulous finale of The Chicago Code, good ratings vs others aka the event or Lola…
Best show of the year,by far..good critics and now great fan base too..
13 epis only.
We want Season 2
true…liked the way it ended..as a lifelong chicagoan, loved the scenery, the corruption(it’s chicago,remember..)and was hoping for the trial, etc…this would have been better suited for fx…cool billy corgan song though…
Not the Chicago Code!! Noooooooooooo!! Just getting this now in the UK. It’s brilliantly, written, produced, acted. Shame, shame, shame.
