CBS is keeping the untitled Rob Schneider comedy in strong contention for midseason. Since CBS ordered only two new comedy series, Two Broke Girls and How to Be a Gentleman, there has been speculation that the network may pick up a third one. Chatter quickly focused on the untitled Rob Schneider multi-ethnic comedy. I hear the show has been given permission to hire writers, which is usually a promising sign. There is no pickup decision by CBS yet, but the network has been in active discussions on the project, and a midseason order as early as today is a possibility. Alternatively, the network also has been mulling ordering a second pilot. In any case, the project is expected to undergo some retooling if it goes forward. The multi-camera comedy, which Schneider co-wrote with Lew Morton, stars Schneider as a confirmed bachelor who has just married into a tight-knit Mexican-American family. Nadine Velazquez, Tony Plana and Lupe Ontiveros co-starred in the pilot.
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

As long as the series doesn’t rely on stereotypes, this is one of a handful of series that sound even remotely interesting to me.
And I have to find out where Schneider got that hat.
You can do it!
But wait! Only Anglo Saxon Protastants in Topica watch TV – Like every TV exec knows so I suspect the change will be Multi-Ethnic Rob will marry into a White family. Hilarity ensues as they attempt to figure out exactly WHAT Rob is.
By far the best comedy pilot script I read this season…
CBS has several good contenders for a mid-season back up. I saw this one. Ehh. You guys like this one over Rob Riggle’s show? Seriously? Seriously?
Seriously. I laughed exactly three times through the entire pilot and the acting was spotty. Compare that to Schneider’s pilot, where the level of acting was much better overall, and the humor was more consistent. This is not to say that Schneider was spectacular, but it turned out surprisingly well.
I saw the pilot. I actually did, not like others here, and it was amazing. From the beginning to the end and it took VERY long to shoot. I got there at 5:30 and it was not over until 12am! but it was worth it. What was amazing is that all of us in the audience stayed until the end. WE WANTED MORE. I hope America get a chance to see another great tv sitcom by CBS.
That this ‘star’ has a career is beyond belief although I have to say it might have been ‘winning!!!!’(as in a 50 car pile-up) if it were he and not Ashton replacing Charlie Sheen.
Some people work better on TV. I expect that will be the case with Rob Schneider, as it was with David Spade, Rob Lowe, etc…
“As long as the series doesn’t rely on stereotypes?”
Don’t bet on it.
I assume there is a fact check issue and the article should have been about John Shnieder from Dukes of Hazzard because that was at least a ridiculous premise. Rob Schneider has never been associated with anything funny.
This was by far one of the funniest pilots I saw. They DO need to retool one character but CBS needs ethnicity in its schedule and this is a good show to do that with. Very funny – I hope it gets the go ahead.
Which character do you think needs retooling, Jenny?
love Nadine Valazquez one of the sexist women on the planet, Schneider will have no worries getting the deal done with her on the team, I wish them all best of luck! Wish i could see the pilot…
Tony Plana (Cuban) playing a Mexican American dad? Is this UGLY BETTY 2?
