EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures has acquired Save the Date, a pitch that will be written by Tom Gormican and produced by Neal Moritz and his Original Film banner. The romantic comedy is set around wedding season in New York City. In the run-up to a big celebration, the lives of many Gotham couples intersect as they explore the question of what marriage means today, and why anybody chooses that fate. Toby Ascher is exec producer and Liz Buraglia is supervising for Original. Deal was worth low six-figures for Gormican, whose script Are We Officially Dating? landed on last year’s Black List. The scribe, who’s repped by Underground and WME, recently was hired to write Emily Post for Warner Bros.

The Black List: further ruining the careers of writers who weren’t connected enough to be on it.
Must be nice.
world’s smallest violin.
The guy who came up with it has marketed himself well, but you realize the “Black List” is in no way relevant to the business, right?
wow. that’s some super-advanced 7th-degree-black-belt-level self-delusion to blame other people’s talent for your “ruined” career.
Its a good thing for Sony Pictures to go for Romantic Comedy this time. Much is hope from the lead roles since it is known to us that its always been hard to made people laugh in the wide screen.
Congrats Tom! Well deserved. He’s a very talented up-and-coming writer. Sony and Neil are lucky to be in business with him. He’s going to crush this.
god sounds awful. is gary marshall gonna direct it?
Wow, I don’t think anything like this has ever been done be – wait, it’s been done maybe 5,000 times before. Sorry. Me confused.
Good for Tom, he must be making a ton of money
An overnight success – nine years in the making!
Hate these ensemble 12 character sketches. Come up with a real idea and some real characters instead of being lemmings. Sheesh!!
Oy. Sounds terrible. Why do we need this movie made?
Downhill is next!
When is Are We Officially Dating gonna be casted?
Congrats to Neal, Toby and Liz!
Congratulations Tom. This is a BFD (as Biden would say).
What the world needs now is a little more levity!!! Good work, Tom. We look forward to the movie. MJCarlson
