Laura Vandervoort, who plays Supergirl on Smallville and who also stars on ABC’s V, has been added to the cast of Seth MacFarlane’s Ted, the Universal Pictures/Media Rights Capital comedy that stars Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Joel McHale, Giovanni Ribisi and Patrick Warburton. Vandervoort will play Tayna, a gorgeous salesgirl and coworker of John (Wahlberg) at the rental car service who is clueless to the gaggle of men who drool over her all day. She’s repped by Levine/Okwu/Erickson and Norbert Abrams.

You may argue that it’s “funny” that she’s clueless. I’d argue back that humor has to be based in some kind of recognizable reality to work. Despite the persistence of this trope, there are no beautiful women who are clueless about their affect on men. If you’re a male writer and you’re still naive enough to believe that fantasy, I suggest you send a female friend with a hidden taperecorder into the women’s room at a Hollywood party…
Why do I take this so seriously? Because when you approve scripts that have situations that are this absurdly far away from reality as women know it, you have women staying far away from your movies. And then you say it’s pointless to make movies for women because they don’t go to movies!

Not sure how McFarlane will handle the transition to live-action, but I never get tired of seeing Laura Vandervoort.
