Timed to the opening of Pirates Of The Caribbean 4, filmmaker Nathan Gotsch wrote and directed a video with some friends that spoofs the lack of originality in Jerry Bruckheimer’s recent movies. This afternoon, Gotsch saw this email sent to one of the actresses from Tonia Davis, director of development at Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures: “That shit is funny as fuck,” the exec’s message said. “We’ve all watched. It went around the studio. Nicely done, team awesome.”
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Hahahah….that was so funny. Im glad Disney execs saw that because its true. What the f*ck was Bruckheimer thinking with G-Force?
what the f<ck was that about
G Force sucked ass…
This ones even better

You’re right.
Totally, Lisa Nova is insanely talented.
Both videos are really lame. It’s just one weak joke stretched out for an unsustainable number of minutes. I don’t see the “funny as f-ck” anywhere, more like “someone’s trying way too hard to be clever.”
By the way, Keira Knightley said in March 2009 that she wasn’t interested in doing Pirates 4 so whoever made this video is clueless, trying to make something out of nothing.
Actually, the Pirates meets Con Air sounds full of potential. If Jack Sparrow is recruited by Captain James Cook to help create the Penal Colony in Australia, and something goes awry….
Very inspired spoof. I think Johnny Depp and Nicolas Cage should square off in Face Off 2. Depp is Jack Sparrow, Cage is Benjamin Franklin Gates, who while searching for the treasure of Jean Lafitte, finds the immortal body of Jack Sparrow who can never die, because that would be the end of Pirates sequels. Sparrow, though, is tired of his life and thinks being an historical adventurer who always gets the girl, would be cool. So they trade faces. However, Depp soon learns that sleeping with luscious Diane Kruger has its drawbacks. She’s an insomniac who loves sauerkraut at two in the morning, which makes him allergic. Meanwhile, Cage soon discovers that there are no sanitary restrooms in the 17th Century, so he gets every communicable disease possible and turns into a zombie of himself. I don’t know about you, but I have chills.
That was “funny as fuck”? This town is more trouble than I thought…
Yeah, agree on that. The whole thing was the same two “jokes”, again and again…
Joke 1) Each person pitches “Jerry Bruckheimer movie meets Jerry Bruckheimer movie”.
Joke 2) Jerry only loves the ideas he’s made already.
Lame…
Development execs take heed–
This is exactly what writers, directors and most actors think about your participation in the creative process. I once had an executive give me a note on what kind of pants a character would be wearing in a scene. He really though that should be corduroy.
You’re not fooling anyone. Get out while you still can.
Agree. Might give it a “clever.” But it’s really not even that – clever usually includes something surprising. This could have been a straight up documentary.
Let’s go with pretty good. It was pretty good.
Oh, look, a couple of budding film critics.
That was actually funnier than the short. (But still not very funny.) Oh hang on a minute… are you the director?
You are right, this town is in trouble. That was unfunny except to the execs that green light his films.
Didn’t even smile, much less laugh. Looks like a first-year Groundlings piece. As uninspired as Bruckheimer himself, so in that respect I suppose it’s accidentally post-modern.
Mike Mauloff is one hilarious dude. He’s going big time.
thanks for the tip off on your career’s direction, mr. mauloff
tonia is rad
but clearly doesn’t know comedy
or how to use email in an office
Ugh – the perils of the junior executive trying to be cool to their “friends”. Hard lesson to learn that people will sell you out to get some notoriety for their name. Shame on the director for sharing that email.
“Team Awesome”??????? Good God. Glad to hear that the Disney execs are so tactful. (“That shit is funny as fuck.” Classy email!!!)
…riiight, because by now everyone in this business should expect their emails to end up on deadline and their classiness to be judged by the faceless commenting hordes. Gimmie- and TD who is awesome- a break.
A giant “Meh”…the spoof itself felt as unoriginal as the ideas that were being pitched in the spoof! What happened to the good ol’ days of Sharktank Redemption and Lucas in Love? Spoof shorts these days suck.
The “Tim Burton pitch meeting” on College Humor that showed Tim Burton enthusiastically making the same movie over and over while his collaborators phone in their contribution was much more effective.
I must be a cynic because that was “stupid as fuck.”
Total “meh”. I’m not even being a hater. I’ve pitched to a room like that more times than I can mention so I get the context. It was way too long for a one joke idea and I’ve seen pitch meetings parodied enough that it didn’t break any new ground whatsoever. If this is what’s qualifying for “inspired” and “funny” I should be Judd Apatow by December.
That was great! Fucking hilarious! Its probably the truth too.
I, and mean, he, makes billions of dollars. Who cares how crappy my, I mean his, movies are. Billions people, billions. And I’ll, I mean he’ll, keep on making them because that’s what America and the world want to see. Soon I will have completed my plan for world domination by brainwashing the masses… wait I did say “he” right?
bruckheimer isnt worth billions of dollars, what planet are you on…
It wasn’t that funny. But, the last two lines were.
Too bad they’ll never have the money Jerry does; now that’s what’s FUNNY !!!!!!!
HA HA HA Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!
Obviously, this was done knowing something about Bruckheimer’s personality.
Notice there is nothing on the conference table. No notes no cell phones, no papers and pens…nothing, except a conference call telephone and Jerry is the only person with a bottle of water.
Anyone who has ever been to Jerry’s office complex will soon notice this applies to almost every desk and surface. Jerry is OCD about this…and, although this piece (like his films) could be much better…its production design (based on Jerry)…is spot on.
Everyone who thought this was funny should not be working in show business, including the Director of Development. It that is the person who’s opinion is getting scripts across desks, no wonder the studio is in trouble.
Which part of this clip was supposed to be funny?
Ugh, so Takei.
you’re right. Takei as fuck!
curtis neill, funny as hell
this shit is where parody meets reality – can we cross over to the other side?
download your pirates tonight
Not to be mean but don’t they just make the same joke 30 times in a row?
how about movie ideas that are so unfunny that even the spoof about them is unfunny?
For Disney execs to snark on Bruckheimer on a weekend where his movie is going to keep them in their jobs for another year — it ain’t “Prom” and “Mars Needs Moms” that’s keeping the lights on — is pretty darn stupid. Nice going, Disney execs. J to the B is not going to be pleased.
Unfunny and uninspired. And as someone else pointed out, a total rip of the Tim Burton sketch that *was* actually clever, well-WRITTEN in terms of what people said, and had higher production value.
The central joke of this sketch is actually ripped off from Roger Kumble’s play “D-Girl” with David Schwimmer: “How about ‘Die Hard’ on a train?” “That’s ‘Under Siege.’” “Okay, how about ‘Cliffhanger’ in an office tower?” “Uh, that’s ‘Die Hard.’” “Then how about ‘Die Hard’ in a men’s store?” “So that would be what, ‘Coat Hanger?’”
This J.B. sketch was flat and dull and should have at least had better blocking if the jokes were all going to fail. (Any episode of “Entourage” can show you how to shoot a table meeting for dynamic effect.) And there are much funnier things that could be drawn from real life, any day of the week during a real live Wednesday meeting on the lot. Do your research!
