EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros has closed a deal for Turkey Bowl, a comedy that will re-team The Other Guys stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg as guys from football-obsessed towns who lead rival teams in an annual tackle football game for bragging and trash-talking rights. The tackle games are grandiose, and I’m told they plan to pack it with fun cameos, just the way they did during the rival broadcaster gang fights in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Alec Baldwin is already aboard as Wahlberg’s father. Sold as a pitch, the project will be written by 30 Rock‘s Robert Carlock, and Scott Silveri, with the story by Owen Burke of Gary Sanchez Productions. Ferrell, Adam McKay and Chris Henchy will produce through their Sanchez banner and Wahlberg through his Closest to the Hole banner. Ferrell is coming off a stint on The Office and will next be seen in Everything Must Go. Wahlberg just became aligned to re-team with David O. Russell in The Silver Linings Playbook, which The Weinstein Company is selling at the Cannes Film Festival market. He’s starring in the Seth MacFarlane-directed Ted after wrapping Contraband.

Wait…isn’t this the greg Coolidge/kirk ward spec that’s been bouncing around CAA for over 3 years? Did they buy it to rewrite it?
What happened?
Oy. Wahlberg should never do a comedy again. The Other Guys was painful.
You mean Will Ferrell should never do a comedy again.
I’d watch Will Ferrell in a movie but not if Mark Wahlberg is in it. There’s a reason why Wahlberg didn’t get nominated for the Oscar in The Fighter … it’s because he can’t act. Besides, after learning about his violent racist past, I don’t have a very high opinion of him. He never paid his debt to society for his hate crimes, never apologized to his victims, and never made financial restitution. Pass.
@ Santa. How does it feel to be dead inside?
Other Guys was great
I LOVED THE OTHER GUYS!
So it’s a sort-of rehash of the 1980′s THE BEST OF TIMES with Robin Williams and Kurt Russell?
Oy boy – I’m sure this will be a real weiner, can’t wait not to see it.
Who is anxious to see this pairing again? That movie was awful once Rock and Sam Jackson died.
Wow…..you think that the Rock and “Sam” Jackson are funny? You probably watch old WWF wresting recordings in your underoos every night too! You’re a winner!
people who don’t understand dry humor, probably never laugh.
It is funny that another movie called Turkey Bowl premiered at SXSW this spring to strong reviews.
Exactly. I’d rather have seen those 2 for the whole movie.
If you don’t enjoy Will Ferrell’s movies then you should probably go look at Rogert Ebert’s list of MUST WATCH movies. I personally liked the pairing of Will and Mark and I’m looking forward to some laughs.
Dumb dumb. No way jose.
WRONG! The Other Guys was great! Loved Mark Wahlberg in it. His lines were so funny and dry!
Is this connected to the film “Turkey Bowl” that screened at SXSW this year? Because THAT was excellent.
For the life of me I can’t figure out why The Other Guys made so much money. This sounds on its surface like it could be a funny idea though.
Move over, Masterpiece Theater.
The Other Guys is f-in HILARIOUS !!
Wow, after all this time you guys still don’t get that comedy is subjective. One person can love Zoolander while another hates it. There is no right answer. If you love it, it’s good. If you don’t, it’s bad… To you. How can you argue about something that is all about personal taste? People raved to me about Black Swan. I saw it and was bored. Does that mean it’s a bad movie? No. It just wasn’t my cup of tea.
Now I’m curious what the story is for the movie. Half the writing team worked on Friends. I wonder if he wrote that football playing episode.
Being a little drunk and/or under the influence of a mind-altering substance upon my initial viewing of The Other Guys, I found it to be quite funny. Very, very funny. F—ing funny.
They RIPPED off those kids from SXSW that just came out with a movie called TURKEY BOWL – just like they ripped off the idea for THE OTHER GUYS.
They definitely did rip this off of Kyle Smith’s “Turkey Bowl” which premiered at SXSW. What a bunch of crap. I hope they don’t get away with it.
Let Dirty Mike and the Boys have another crack at them…!
The Other Guys was much better the second time, when I was stoned on pot brownies. Still, McKay is fantastic every time stoned or sober.
Fact – Wahlberg is tough to watch when he is out of his wheel house
Fact – Ferrel’s over the top humor has been overexposed
Fact – Adam McKay is a hilarious person but a pretty bad director
Fact – Wahlberg in the right role, with Farrel subtleties, and a good director (Apatow, Jonez, Philips, Wright) and you could actually have a good film.
Wahlberg is a weak actor. During his scenes in The Departed, so many eyes rolled I wish we could tap it as a new energy source.
Didn’t a movie also called Turkey Bowl, about a thanksgiving football game just play at SXSW…just 2 months ago???
It’s probably just the same person talking shit.
I really enjoyed the Other Guys, and it was a big hit in the USA, but didn’t it lose money in the end because it cost a lot and tanked internationally? Anyone know the budget for this new one?
Any chance this movie is based on the annual Easton-Phillipsburg Turkey Day rivalry? It’s one of the oldest and best in the country and has been highlighted on ESPN several times.
Is this the same TURKEY BOWL script by COOLIDGE and WARD that went out last year? Love that script!

A 30-something urbanite is tricked into returning to his rural hometown by his high school buddies to finally finish The Turkey Bowl — an epic football game against their cross-town rivals that was snowed out fifteen years earlier on Thanksgiving.
In 1956 my husband and his group have been playing football at Thanksgiving at a certain field aroung Boston. They called their group, the “Turkey Bowl.”They never missed a year…do the math…thats a long time! Now all of a sudden someone comes along with this “brilliant idea” to make a movie on the same premise…duh…there’s “something rotten in Denmark.”I think that someone had better do some exploaining quick!!!Some4one is taking credit for an idea that was originated by a group of Boston men in 1956! One of those men was my husband, He and his friends never received any acknowledgement and now out of the blue someone is making a movie about this! Start talking…I’m listening!!!(By the way I have physical proof of their games…other than being a football wife! I have photo and memorabilia from their games)
Hey 1956! Turkey Bowls have been around longer than you and your old hubby.
