Warner Brothers on Friday kicked off the viral campaign for Chris Nolan’s Batman threequel The Dark Knight Rises. On Twitter, @TheFireRises links users to the new website, which is all black and contains a disturbing soundtrack sliver. A subsection allows users to upload their own images to a collage that slowly forms the following Hardy/Bane photo. Very cool. Very Nolan:

I thought the Joker was nuts. This guy… is going to be flat out bananas.
Looks genuinely horrifying. Can’t wait.
People have been saying the little white dot could be a cat’s eye. I think that’s kind of stretching it, more likely he’s in a cage & that’s a hole.
My bet is the movie will be very well made, but we’ll need a road map, as well as clues to solve a crossword puzzle that will help us to understand the obvious Nolan-esque overly-complicated plot.
Maybe if, y’know, you’re an idiot. Dark Knight’s plot wasn’t too complicated for you surely?
And 45 minutes too long, and make no sense. Nolan is a great shooter and possibly a great director of actors, but he needs editing. Badly.
Not so much editing but an idea of pace and tightening. You could definitely point to the scenes in the first two films that were not necessary for the bigger picture.
Editing is about pace and tightening.
you guys need to shut up the first and second batman were perfect teh way they were he doesnt need any work on what he does
You can definitely point to the scenes – in all Nolan films – that have a neon sign flashing “exposition” above the characters’ heads. I’m not worried. We’ll be sure to get road maps for this one too.
If it’s “too much” to ask an audience to keep up with a fairly basic story perhaps you should stick to simple films like Thor. Some filmmakers actually set out to make a product of quality as opposed to simplicity for the masses. Not all of us require a calculator to figure out how many shoes to put on in the morning.
I predict Tom Hardy will steal every scene he’s in the way he did in Inception. The dude rocks!!!
BADASS! If I saw this dude on the street I would head for the hills! Batman is seriously screwed. Can’t wait for this to come out. This will be the blockbuster to beat for 2012.
I predict another smart, intense, thrilling Nolan film and an unforgettable topper to the best superhero franchise so far.
Tom Hardy looks terrifying! The fight scenes between Batman and Bane will be the most epic in cinematic history. **spoiler** Bane may break Batman’s back. Crack!
I hope the climactic fight between Christian Bale and Tom Hardy will knock everyone on their ass and be so amazing and action-packed, audiences all over the world will be left breathless.
Nothing like getting your hopes up!
Badass.
Nolan is a genius. Can’t wait for this flick.
“Bring out the Gimp.”
I am so glad Tom Hardy is getting the breakout that has long been long overdue.
It looks like his Bronson character with a gasmask. I remember Ledger’s first Joker headshot that had all of distorted makeup and face minus the green hair that was later added. I hope they keep this one as is because it is just what I imagined Bane to be in the Nolan universe.
For the doubters: Nolan has never made a bad movie, and most likely never will. He’s got what you call raw talent for film making, which not many people have. Some people are just born to make films, and some people try to learn how to do it, with the latter not being nearly as successful. I mean has Scorsese, or did Kubrick, ever make a bad movie? No. It’s called raw talent, and your man Nolan has got it. This movie will be epic.
I dunno. I thought “Shutter Island” sucked. Maybe it was just me.
Dude, I respect your opinion but have you honestly seen all of Scorsese and Kubrick’s movies to say that either of them have NEVER done a bad movie? Come on… For the record, I’ll take Nolan over Scorsese any day of the week. I hated “Age of Innocence” and “Bringing Out the Dead” to name a few.
God forbid a movie makes you use your brain.
My guess is that Bane was formerly Ra’s al Ghul’s apprentice in the league of shadows, and they’ll show a flashback with Bane and young Ra’s (Josh Pence). Bane will now head the LoS (and perhaps use a new panic inducing gas), and the mask is a gas mask like the one Liam Neeson wore in the first one.
Good guess. Although in the comics Bane was hopped up on a super steroid called Venom. That’s why he was able to beat Batman. Without it, Batman would clean his clock.
Wonder if Nolan is going to include that?
Nolan always manages to surprise us, so the road map and clues may be worth it. I also expect the soundtrack to be as amazing as TDK’s soundtrack was.
I agree, CMG, when I watched ‘Bronson’, I went, “Who IS this guy?”
Then, piece by piece, his name was popping up everywhere. Even imdb suddenly started adding back-credits and such.
Bit of a nut, but a desirable one, who goes all-in when he accepts a role.
Don’t know all the ‘Batman’ lore, as it were, but trust he’ll do something worth watching.
Dude is epic in WARRIOR. Wouldn’t be surprised if he got nominated. Movie is outrageously good. And the Nolan haters are crazy.
Maybe my ears deceive me, but is it “Bane, Bane, matalo, matalo”?
Bane, Bane, kill him, kill him.
?
so cool!! didn’t Nolan say he wanted to do a bond movie? hope he does!!
The mask gives Bane a Frank Booth vibe. Wonder if he’ll call Catwoman ‘Mommy’?
