Lionsgate and director Gary Ross have set Wes Bentley to play Seneca Crane in The Hunger Games, the film that stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth. Crane is the head gamesmaker of the 74th Hunger Games, which pits teens from 12 districts in a televised battle to the death. This is the first of several adult roles that will be cast. Rumored participants include John C. Reilly, as District 12′s only living past winner and current drunk Haymitch, but Lionsgate labeled that absolutely false when it came up a couple weeks ago, and nobody lies to Deadline, right? The pic will be released March 23, 2012.

Cool ! Wes Bentley was very good in ‘ American Beauty ‘, and he showed a lot of promise . I know he has dealt with some substance abuse issues, but he deserves a nice comeback. Bentley has an incredible film presence, charisma, depth , and the talent. I truly wish him continued success.
never read Hunger Games, but it sure sounds like a Battle Royale rip-off.
Bentley had a promising career. Glad to see he’s getting a comeback shot. He was excellent with Sarah Polley in Michael Winterbottom’s “The Claim.”
So happy to see Wes make a comeback after a long addiction to heroin.
Lindsay could take a hint from him. Keep your head down, work hard and people will take you back.
Casting has been hit or miss, mostly miss (Lawrence as Katniss will bomb royally). Just put Kristen Bell as Johanna in the second film onward and at least it’ll be salvageable.
You have to joking. Kristen Bell, the one who plays same role in every movie. Who has same haircut and same face expression in every movie…
Dear Kristen Bell. Stop posting on forums. It will not help you.
As much as I love John C. Reilly he is all wrong for that character. Hopefully that was just a rumour.
Yay! Wes Bentley career is back.
In the book – district 12 is a very poor rural community. The people are described as darker complexion and features. Not sure why they decided to cast all blonde hair/blue eyed actors. The leads might as well be from the richer districts (1,2 or 3). I dont think the casting directors bothered to read the books.
Who’s a better drunk than Val Kilmer. Now that’s who should be Haymitch Abernathy.
I would like to see Gary Busey play Haymitch..!
LOVE THIS CASTING
Anthem moss is someone evryone should be looking at
I think a re-uniting of HAILEE STEINFELD and JEFF BRIDGES would have been a better casting. Hailee is the same age and likeness of KATNISS and Jeff Bridges played one hell of a drunken mentor in “TRUE GRIT”. I’m curious to see how close the film stays to the novel. The book is brutal; not sure how movie goers are going to react to a bunch of “teens” choping each other up on camera but to cut away everytime there’s a kill is made for TV stuff. I don’t know, guess we’ll see. The book was freakin awesome — the film has the potential to be a watered-down bust.
