NBC is yet to make their “sorry, you have not been picked up” calls, but the fate of several high-profile projects has already been sealed. David E. Kelley’s reboot of Wonder Woman is not going forward. Also not getting a pickup is the Don Johnson hairdresser drama A Mann’s World, written and directed by Michael Patrick King. And an order for Stephen Gaghan’s sprawling drama Metro is considered extremely unlikely too. This may not be the end of the road for A Mann’s World, a well-received pilot, mostly for King’s direction and Johnson’s on-screen presence. I hear it will probably be shopped to cable networks, which makes sense as many who have seen the pilot say it has cable sensibility.
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

What about Reconstruction???
Covering her legs up is like remaking Baywatch, getting rid of the skimpy swimsuit and covering a Pamela Anderson type up with a scuba wet suit. Dumb as hell. DAVID E. KELLEY HAS LOST HIS MIND.
We all saw it coming. The last thing they want is another Knight Rider or V that is no where near as cool, epic or action packed as the originals that came out decades ago. I was completely open to those remakes, but they couldn’t even up the scale on Visual Fx and action set pieces and it’s been decades. NOW THAT IS PATHETIC!!!!
Where has David E. Kelley been since Batman 89 came out 22 YEARS AGO!!!! When Tim Burton was the first to make a Super-Hero not campy looking. Then Schumacher brought it all back to campy.
As THOUSANDS have said, her costume looks like a cheap halloween costume. I like David E. Kelly and he’s legend. But, he brought the failure and wasted time on this show all on his own. He’s completely unware of what millions of people in the U.S. know, that we don’t want campy looking super-heroes that belong in the 70′s.
DC is not as aggressive as Marvel in getting there superheroes to the big screen. So, I hope that we finally get a Wonder Woman in theaters where she belongs. With a thong like in some of the comics, however that’s wishful thinking.
WHAT PISSES ME OFF THE MOST IS THAT THERE STILL ARE STILL PRODUCERS IN HOLLYWOOD WHO DON’T HAVE A CLUE ABOUT COMIC BOOKS. COMICS ARE NOT AS HARD TO READ AS BOOKS, WALK INTO A COMIC BOOKS STORE AND ASK OPINIONS OF THE NERDS. Seriously, it’s 2011 WITH SEVERAL COMIC BOOK MOVIES THAT HAVE ALREADY MADE BILLIONS and there still are clueless people in Hollywood. Keep in mind that we would not have had the hits of Iron-Man or Thor if Marvel had not produced them themselves. Since there are still dumb studio heads who didn’t “get it” after Batman 89, X-Men, Spider-Man and etc etc etc etc that comic book movies make money. Thank God for Marvel Studios!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only reason they even greenlit a Ghost Rider sequel is because the rights were about to revert back to Marvel. Pathetic, if you own the rights to any Marvel Characters than you are sitting on a gold mind. Green light them you morons and make sure you pay respect to the source material, like Marvel has.
As for David E. Kelley, his agent and manager should be fired for not smacking him in the face for losing his damned mind. Just saying WHAT THE ENTIRE COUNTRY ALREADY KNOWS.
Someone please option the above post. There is definitely a character there, and probably a back-story too.
Wonder Woman was DOA from the beginning
True, but that the new regime realized that and cut there losses is already an improvement.
Their. Sorry. No need to comment.
hear! hear!
Yeah, I’m glad they decided to kill it. It would never live up to the original anyway.
NBC needs to get Adrianne Palicki on any one of the series that did get a pick-up then! =]
Mann’s World could probably fit in well on USA. Any word on 17th Precinct or Recounstruction? Those were two of the more interesting premises.
Yes, absolutely – there must be something they put Adrianne on, she’s too talented to waste.
A shame.
Any word on Brave New World and if it might be a possible contender for midseason or being shopped to other channels?
That’s a shame! They should have given it a shot
I hope they air Wonder Woman as a stand alone special.
Always hated titles like A Mann’s World, Running Wilde, etc. No creativity on the part of the writers…you can just name the lead whatever you want and voila, a lame show.
Don’t blame the writer everytime for the crappy pun titles. Many times I pitch a show and they don’t react to simple show names. How they got Cheers, Taxi, Friends, Seinfeld, etc by the networks and studios I will never know. But if you pitch a crappy pun some of these execs cream in their pants. “It’s about a detective in Alaska. And it’s called The Cold Truth.” Ahhhhhhh.
Actually A. MANN’S WORLD is very clever: the main character is Alan Mann….this was an excellent script I hope it finds a home somewhere
Actually, you just made Tom’s point… And NO it was not an excellent script.
If you think that’s clever, they should take away your WGA card.
No it’s not.
On the last show I worked on the showrunner hated puns so much you had to do twenty pushups if you pitched a pun in the writer’s room. I think that should be instituted industry wide. One, to stop puns. Two, because most writers are out of shape.
If WW, Metro, and AMW are dead, is Reconstruction alive?
Why did they not pick up Metro? “Too risky” for network tv?
Always felt Wonder Woman was DOA from the beginning. They should had used the Smallville format and introduce the superhero angle later in the series and start with a more realistic approach. Too bad because television rarely does costumed heroes very well. And if anyone knows about the fate of the never-seen pilot of Aquaman -we’ll probably never see the WW pilot.
I saw that pilot. It was enjoyable, but aqua man is a lame character from the DC Universe anyway.
Actually the Aquaman pilot was put on itunes when it wasnt picked up so actually tons of people have seen it. And in my opinion it was very good and had potential to be a great show.
I was so looking forward to clever TV with David E Kelly’s WW. All the other stuff sounds rubbish! It didn’t hurt either that they had the gorgeous Cary Elwes attached and lovely Liz Hurly.
NBC making smart decisions. Who would have thought we’d see that day?
Wow. I am shocked but at the same time not completely shocked. WONDER WOMAN is such a cool premise for a show, but I am glad that they realized it wasn’t up to standards. Hopefully someone new and more qualified for that genre will get a chance to do it in the next few years.
Oh for heaven’s sake can you just tell us already what is going on with I Hate That I Love you. Are the casting change rumors true? Is it DOA altogether?
Chalk another one for Jeffrey Reiner. Who does this guy have naked pictures of?
I had hopes for WW but had a bad feeling from the get go. Kelley was never the right choice but I was hopeful given the costume revamp.
I think NBC probably made the right call as this could’ve been a high profile flop but the fan in me wanted it to go to series.
Apparently you didn’t read the script. Because holy fuck was it the worst piece of dated, unoriginal schlock ever written.
The end product was ok, and that’s nice for the talent. But to argue any merits of the writing is to expose an unforgivable bias, probably born out of a percentage.
I could not agree more. That script was TERRIBLE.
How can they not pick up Metro formerly SILA???? That script was brilliant! Big mistake NBC, big big mistake.
No bathing suit costume…no show …bottom line…….
THis costume is oppressive and sets back women’s rights 60 years. This is saying it’s a crime to be sexy.
If you want men to be sexy too, you can put them in skimpier costumes also…no one is stopping you…but stop trying to make things equal by doing the exact oppositte. If she had the bathing suit costume, I would have watched………and I would have said…..put men in bathing suits also to make things equal. But screw this conservative crap
Yeah, that was exactly Tom’s point. I could name a show “First’s Place” and then name the main character “Joe First.” – since they are not real people, the writers can just name them whatever they want to create a pun…
Gaghan’s pilot was the best one I read all season. Here’s hoping Nellie’s wrong and it still has a shot because that show alone could restore NBC’s reputation.
They should pickup Metro and Reconstruction and flush the other ones.
Adrianne Palicki is on a 2-game losing streak: Lone STar and Wonder Woman.
