UPDATE: Medium executive producer Craig Sweeny has come onboard Common Law as executive producer. He will serve as co-showrunner on the series alongside co-creators/exec producers Cormac & Marianne Wibberley through his overall deal at CBS TV Studios.

EXCLUSIVE 5 PM: I hear USA Network is finalizing a series pickup of comedic buddy cop drama Common Law starring Michael Ealy. The project, from CBS TV Studios and Jon Turteltaub’s Junction Entertainment, centers on polar-opposite LAPD homicide detectives Travis Marks (Ealy) and Wes Mitchell (Warren Kole), whose nonstop bickering and acrimony prompts their no-nonsense captain Phil Sutton (Jack McGee) to send them to a couples therapist. The role of the therapist, played in the pilot by Amy Acker, will be recast, along with another, smaller part. There will be some reshoots, and I hear the action quotient on the show will be pumped up. With the series order for Common Law, expected by the end of the week, USA will maintain its perfect pilot-to-series batting average. Common Law was one of three cast-contingent pilots ordered by USA last summer, along with Necessary Roughness and Suits (formerly A Legal Mind). The other two have already been picked up to series. Of the three pilots from USA’s second batch, Eden has been completed, while Over/Under and Wild Card are still casting. Common Law was written by Cormac & Marianne Wibberley, who are executive producing with Turteltaub.

New ‘Man Of Steel’ Television Spot #6

Will this be the second USA series about professionals in therapy — Necessary Roughness?
We luuuuvvvvvvv Michael Ealy!
He was great in Sleeper Cell. Now I see showtime previews for Homeland. I Think they had show that covered this territory with authenticity and great diverse cast. So all I say to Showtime is:
GIVE SLEEPER CELL THE THIRD ACT IT DESERVES.
WHY IS AMY ACKER BEING RECASTED!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT WAS THE ONLY REASON I WANTED TO WATCH THE SHOW!!
Tough luck for Amy. She needs a spot in a good series. I didn’t even know she was in this one until I read this article.
I was wondering the same thing. I like Ealy too, but Acker was the main draw for this in my eyes.
You’re not alone to wonder, i love Ealy, but i wanted to see Acker because she is one of those underrated tv actress… I wish her the best though!
Hey Alicia Copolla was attached to that project as well is she the smaller part they are recasting as well? another underrated one!
it’s sad, Copolla, Acker and Ealy, was the trio that i was looking forward to see on this series… i really don’t care about that dude that plays the cop buddy to Ealy.
by the way how does those early reacasting happen? they do ordinary citizens focus group and the people on the group say, we don’t like the actress who plays the psychiatriste
if Alicia Coppola has a smaller role then just cast her as the therapist. No brainer to me.
Another TV show with a veiled homoerotic subtext?
Wibberly’s amaze me. they won’t leave there compound in Manhattan Beach. Agoraphobics. Congrats Marianne and Cormac.
You lost me at “Amy Acker, will be recast”…
Yeah one show I’m not watching now
They should cast Tracy Ellis ross as the psychiatrist… i hope they don’t go for one of those ovious and very cautious choice Hollywood love to make…
Here my suggestion recast since Amy is out of the project:
1/Tracy Ellis Ross, she has play that part with great effect in Private Practice
2/Anika Noni Rose, hmmm i think i love actress with thre parts name LOL
3/Roselyn Sanchez, it’s been a while that i’ve seen her on Tv so now is the time to bring her back plus USANetwork needs to bump the diversity quotient of their shows…
Roselyn Sanchez would be a nice pick. She’s a good actress and definitely easy on the eyes.
Yeah! Jack McGee on TV again!,
Warren Kole is a terrific actor. Can’t wait to see the show.
[snark] Oh, look! USA is branching out into buddy dramedies! [/snark]
Are they absolute blowjobs. Acker was what would have made this show.
With pretty much everyone else who commented on this. No Amy Acker, are you joking? :/
No Amy Acker? Count me out!
This post is a cliff hanger…what happened on this show? Did it get an order and if so for how many episodes. What other cast changes have occurred?
