USA’s spy drama Covert Affairs opened its second season with 4.6 million viewers last night, down 7% from its series debut last July. In adults 18-49, the series starring Piper Perabo drew 1.9 million, down 10% from last year when Covert Affairs logged the highest-rated scripted cable premiere of the year in the demo. Covert Affair‘s lead-in, the third season of White Collar, averaged 4 million total viewers. That was down 7% from last July’s premiere when the series starring Matt Bomer also was paired with Covert Affairs, but up 2% from its winter premiere earlier this year. Both years, the premieres of Covert Affairs and White Collar aired against stiff competition. This year, it was the NBA Finals and The Voice, last year, it was the monster episode of Deadliest Catch featuring the death of Capt. Phil Harris, the series finale of The Hills and MLB.

I wasn’t even aware that Covert Affairs was premiering. I just lucked up on it.
I think they were up against NBA Playoffs & THE VOICE. Seems great considering.
I enjoy the shows on USA. I am glad the premieres did well. I like White Collar but I will have to check out Covert Affairs I have not watched that one yet.
We should get a better glimpse into the ratings for these two shows next week when they aren’t going up against the NBA Finals. Also I expect the ratings to go up after DVR numbers come in. I bet a lot of people DVR’d them and watched the basketball game.
I did. A lot of people did.
USA Network is all about me-too shows with witty characters in clever situations. I can’t tell them apart. I liked Covert Affairs when it was called Alias.
Yeah the USA ‘brand’ wore-off awhile ago.
Characters Welcome? Please write some and I’ll watch…
“White Collar” is just one of the worst shows on television. I still don’t know how it gets any kind of audience.
It’s audience is pretty much entirely down to the charm and chemistry of the two leads, Bomer and DeKay. The writing leaves a very great deal to be desired.
Everything on USA reeks of hackdom and second rate quality. The only show I like of theirs is psych. Very funny acting and writing. The rest of it (that’s right, Burn notice, too) is straight up garbage.
I like In Plain Sight because the characters have a little gravity.
OMG are both of these shows unwatchable! Esp the terrible pacing.
A con man should have an intriguing personality not just look cute like a too-old-to-on-GLEE choirboy.
But is that HIS fault or USA’s?
I know the writers want to change things but you have to remember that a stellar amount of their fans are well…normal.
I have to say that though I’m not a fan of USA. Since they have ‘turned’ White Collar, it’s MUCH better….but that’s just me and I love the action.
I hope they continue to be exciting because I know so many viewers are OBSESSED with the bromance of the two stars which is great but come on….the guy is a frigging con art artist, let’s have some action!
White Collar, Covert Affairs and ROYAL PAINS!!!!(that means
especially Royal Pains) are my three favorite TV shows. The
problem is there are just so few of them!!! Hours and hours
and hours of Law and Order re-runs, NCI re-runs, House re-runs,
but so little of these great shows. Royal Pains is the best
thing to come along in three decades.
