EXCLUSIVE: CBS Films has acquired Flight 75, a pitch for a thriller that will be directed by The Grudge helmer Takashi Shimizu. Project was bought on a treatment by Shimizu and a writer will be set momentarily. It is described as a claustrophobic thriller set on a transpacific airliner where the passengers encounter what appears to be a supernatural force. Shimizu reteams with Grudge producer Taka Ichise, who’ll produce with The Ring‘s Roy Lee and Insidious‘ Steven Schneider. John Middleton is exec producer. Shimizu has been looking for the right fit for his next English-language project and this is expected to be it. They hope to get it mounted by the fall. It becomes another in a flurry of projects set up by CBS Films, which has Gambit in production with Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz; just put Ed Zwick on the Vince Flynn bestseller American Assassin; and an adaptation of the Marie Lu novel Legend, to be directed by Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies). ICM reps Shimizu.

Shimizu is a horror master, it’s about time he did another American film.
Im glad that can films is still running since they haven’t had a major hit
I’m glad you think Hollywood should only make big-CGI trash like Green Lantern.
Personally, I’m psyched for an original horror movie.
I’m glad you think he implied that.
I agree with Sully. Hollywood needs to stop focusing on manufacturing carbon copy hits and go back to making original films.
Sounds like a rip of the old TV movie “Horror At 37000 Feet”. With so many great horror novels and short stories out there that could be adapted why cover old ground?
I think “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet” is better and unless there’s a gremlin on the wing of the plane, who cares.
This sounds pretty interesting and seems to have the goods to back it up.
nothing is original. so whatever.
“Horror” or “Terror” @ 37k? Either way that was the movie that popped into my head when I saw this and I sure hope Shatner gets a cameo. 37k is an art classic. It’s timeless.
Ouch for Sparling and Flight 456, just out from UTA. “UnTimely Agency?” Maybe CBS buys it for Taka.
I doubt it. Very different films, just similar premises. I read Sparling’s spec yesterday (the correct title is “Incident on 459″). Intense.
Good people involved with both projects. Hope they both get made.
the grudge didn’t have a script either. don’t knock shimizu. he’s awesome.
Not a big fan of “hands on” Les Moonves and CBS Films, but in fairness, they have been putting together an interesting mix of films.
Whether any turn out well is yet to be seen…
Will there be a dripping-wet little girl crawling up the aisle staring at the passengers?
