EXCLUSIVE: CBS has solidified the midseason chances of the untitled Rob Schneider comedy pilot with an order for a new pilot as well as a number of additional scripts. The multi-camera comedy, which Schneider co-wrote with Lew Morton based on the actor’s real-life experience, stars Schneider as a confirmed bachelor who has just married into a tight-knit Mexican-American family. I hear CBS liked the concept and Schneider, who tested very well, but wants to make some tweaks. Several actors who played members of the family, Schneider’s on-screen wife and her parents, will be recast. By ordering backup scripts, CBS puts the project on track for midseason. If the network likes the new pilot, the comedy will be able to go into production right away for a midseason launch. Back in May, CBS didn’t order any midseason comedy series, leaving that decision for after the upfronts. The Rob Schneider project, from CBS TV Studios and the Tannenbaum Co., was one of two pilots left in contention, along with the Sony TV-produced Peter Knight half-hour.
CBS has a history of ordering second pilots and recasting projects that its executives like but feel their original pilots are not quite there. The practice worked out well for The Big Bang Theory and Numbers, which went on to have successful runs on the network.

Can they please just pick up 17th precinct instead?
Wrong network buddy.
Agreed.
This time Rob Schneider is…a stapler!!!
I bet Sandler is somehow involved.
Sandler’s company is actually involved in this pilot’s competition, the Peter Knight pilot, dum dum
this is a hit for sure!
A stiff ass brit actor landing in Hollywood should join the crew for a bit a reality.
wish they would bring back mad love as well.
save mad love on facebook….
MAD LOVE isn’t coming back- the rating were bad and there wasn’t enough viewers!
Boy, that little 2000 people “Save Mad Love” group is so annoying all over the web.
Have seen both the Schneider and Peter Knight pilot and can’t believe CBS went in this direction, While the Knight pilot wasn’t perfect it offered so much more promise than the tired Schneider. I really liked the cast in the Knight pilot and felt the writing was much, much stronger. Too bad Sony is partnered with CBS on the Knight project because I think both NBC and ABC could be be a possible home for the show. Not quite the same situation as moving Ringer from CBS to the CW. Hope CBS can find room for both shows in their mid-season plans.
Peter Knight, the writer/producer has a show in him.
Are you really washed-up if you were never big to begin with?
“Confirmed bachelor?” Does that still mean what it used to mean!
Rob Schneider = not funny.
But he’s living the life. So who am I to say it in the first place!
CBS should watch the film “Fools Rush In” (Matthew Perry-Salma Hayek) so they can figure out how to re-do the premise, which is based on the producer’s real-life experience.
Not if they want it to be funny they shouldn’t.
I wonder if they’ll still love the concept [and Schneider] after the second pilot falls over dead, as well.
Maybe they’ll make him go back to be supported by Sandler’s generosity.
Any word on the chances of the Peter Knight pilot going through?
Finally, CBS is adding Latinos to their programming. You only need to look at the demos to see why. Smart move, CBS. Maybe the other nets will follow? I hope they keep Lupe Ontiveros. She was GREAT in PARTY DOWN. A very funny actress.
Is there any ethnicity that Rob HASN’T married into? How many critics will he argue with when they give this a bad review like he did with Deuce Bigelow…
Both sound like a perfect fit for CBS’s half-asleep-just-want-something-innocuous-to-zone-out-to-before-falling-asleep-next-to-their-fat-spouse demo
Yea! More racist anti-white humor on TV!
Schneider = Funny! He is the red-headed stepchild of the SNL-era bunch; really the least likely to succeed, his movies always surprised me with their humor (yes, sophomoric), intelligence, and sensitivity, not to mention (as with all the SNL movies) an appreciation and free-reign venue for other character-actors/comedians. His best — The Hot Chick — is a prime example.
Thank you, Mr. Schneider.
Its funny he never married,,,
Two tweaks, and it’s gold:
Replace Schneider with anybody. Replace the Mexican family with a Caucasian family.
You’re welcome.
I hope you are joking…
If CBS didn’t like Charlie Sheen’s unbalanced shenanigans, wait’ll they spend a few weeks with Rob Schneider. They’ll be begging for Charlie Sheen back. They think they’ll be “winning” with Rob Schneider? Not a chance.
Read the pilot:meh
Watched the pilot: 100 times better
I actually was pretty happy with the casting. I especially dug a couple of characters who I’m certain the execs want to recast. Why am I certain? Because those were the things that worked and execs hate those.
GREAT. THE NEW SEASON ISN’T BEGIN AND NOW THE NETWORK WANTED TO COME UP WITH BACKUP PILOT SHOW. GOOD LUCK TO CBS WHEN THE NEW SEASON BEGIN. YOUR TRULY CHARLES DAVID HASKELL
I also watched the pilot. It’s not phenomenal but it’s certainly not bad for a mainstream sitcom with pretty well-tread subject matter. Whatever you think about Schneider and his movies, he does seem well-suited to this kind of broad sitcom acting – his performance in the pilot was very good. I hope it works.
You know, I really miss the US version of “Men Behaving Badly”
(the previous was my impression of things you’ve never heard said anywhere by anyone)
