EXCLUSIVE: Cheech Marin has been tapped to co-star opposite Rob Schneider in the actor’s untitled CBS comedy, which recently received an order for another pilot and several backup scripts as it remains in strong midseason consideration. The multi-camera comedy, which Schneider co-wrote with Lew Morton based on the actor’s real-life experience, stars Schneider as Rob, a confirmed bachelor who has just married into a tight-knit Mexican-American family. The retooling of the CBS Studios/Tannenbaum Co. project includes recasting three family members, Rob’s wife and her parents. Marin will play Rob’s father-in-law Fernando, a role played in the original pilot by Ugly Betty alum Tony Plana. In addition to Schneider, returning from the first pilot are Eugenio Derbez as the wife’s uncle and Lupe Ontiveros as her grandmother. This past development season, Marin co-starred in another family comedy pilot, Fox’s Outnumbered. Marin, managed by Anonymous Content, next reprises the voice of Ramone in Cars 2.

OMG. Love Cheech. This thing might actually be good. Nothing against Schneider but the writing better be on point.
Omg yippee I heart rob s. !!!!!!!!
So adorable and funny..
Yeah
Cheech WASN’T in the original? Everyone should be fired.
Good strategy to load this up with proven talent, then slowly ease Schenider out of the series.
Let me guess and Cheech’s wife will now be younger and hot just like Rob’s wife and will be played by Rosie Perez. You can change the ethnicity but it’s still just as recycled and tired.
Wow. A cast that include Cheech, Ontiveros, and Derbez? I’m there! Let’s just hope they embrace the Mexican culture and don’t simply mock it and use it for cheap jokes.
It was a great script and a great pilot. Cheech will only make it better. Lew Morton is a great guy and I hope this goes to series.
Have any of you Rob Schneider detractors actually seen the pilot? He was spot on (and no, I am not on staff, a buddy or a CBS or Tannenbaum executive).
…this show never airs, except perhaps in burn-off months and timeslot, surrounded by repeats.
Sound like this may actually work. As a native Los angeles and son to Mexican parents, please don’t dumb this down. Mexican American and all Latino culture are very passionate and very family oriented people that are more complex and less stereotypical. As time passes on the wonder of Mexican culture clashing and blending with non Mex culture is the norm. Demographic show that latin people are or might be the the majority in a short time so when this show is produced, don’t insult us for the sake of a good laugh, show America that you can have an intelligent show that inspires us all.
I love Rob Schneider, so I’ll watch. I just hope it isn’t full of stale ethnic jokes.
im cant wait to see the next episode, people to see the show are their and ready to watch, i just hope that they have great writers and not belittle the hispanics and i garantee that this show will be great!
