Universal is still denying that Focus Features is on the auction block. A new round of rumors about it surfaced today. And it’s true that, before Comcast took over NBC Universal, the company was listening to offers for the specialty division. But our fresh information is that Comcast now has no interest in selling Focus and the new owners won’t even take potential buyers’ calls anymore.

They should keep it. Focus is high quality and the studio needs it to off set the crap from Uni.
Good, but who the hell is left? In the last year they’ve lost Khali Small, Mike Pruss and John Lyons. Is it just the James Schamus and Sam Pickett show?
There have been to many original voices silenced in this industry over the years. Losing Focus Features would be tragic on numerous levels.
Who will run the restructured unit? And is Kevin Iwashina being considered?
With the decline in studio outputs in both quantity, genre, and target audience there are gaps in the film marketplace that quality niche films can fill. Focus can do that, and if Comcast gives the the support they need, they could create a new business model for Hollywood.
