After 8 months as slot mates on TBS, Conan O’Brien and George Lopez’s bromance still seems to be going strong. For the first time in late night television two back-to-back hosts will guest on each other’s shows on the same night on the same network when O’Brien appears on Lopez Tonight and Lopez on Conan on Thursday. The two hosts are in a different position as O’Brien has more years on his contract while Lopez Tonight‘s is up and the network has not made a decision yet, sparking rumors of a possible cancellation.

why would George Lopez hate Conan? Conan has kept Lopez’s show on the air for a whole year now. TBS was going to cancel Lopez last year, but Conan would only agree to sign with TBS if they agreed to keep “Lopez Tonight” on the air. Clearly, Conan has respect for Lopez, and Lopez certainly should be appreciative of Conan’s help.
Both shows are friggin’ stupid.

Conan has no respect for Lopez’s comedy (the same way he had no respect for Leno’s comedy, even though Leno and Conan played nice when they were both on NBC). Meanwhile, Lopez is fuming that Conan is getting the same ratings that Lopez got at 11:00 pm last year, but for a much higher salary. And now Lopez is facing cancellation.
Let’s get the facts straight here…..TBS was all set to CANCEL “Lopez Tonight” last summer, but when they went to sign Conan, Conan said he would ONLY sign with TBS if TBS made sure to keep “Lopez Tonight” on the air, as he didn’t want George Lopez to be fired the way Leno got Conan fired.
To repeat, CONAN O’BRIEN KEPT GEORGE LOPEZ ON THE AIR FOR A FULL YEAR! Lopez was going to be cancelled LAST YEAR until Conan forced TBS to save the show. George Lopez owes Conan a whole lot.
As for Conan’s bigger salary than Lopez, even though his ratings in the 11:00pm time slot are not significantly higher than Lopez’s were, well, the fact of the matter is, “Conan” attracts a more “advertiser-friendly” audience than Lopez ever has, which justifies his bigger contract. The prime demographic for advertisers is 18-49 year-old white males, and that’s Conan’s base, not Lopez’s. Facts are facts.
Conan has the same audience that likes “Jackass the Movie” Mindless comedy with no point. Lopez had the 11pm slot working but had to give it up because of all the Conan hype. Now Conan’s ratings are no better at the 11pm slot, yet Lopez should be cancelled? Lopez gets the better guest, has a funnier show, and a younger audience. Lopez will land another show if TBS gives up on him.

Unbelievable. The interviewers have only each other left to speak with. The interviewers are now the story, the celebrity. I find it unwatchable when Stewart interview Maddow who interview Stewart who interview O’Reilly and on on on. But Charlie Rose, the only real interviewer is rarely interviewed anywhere. Boycott!

Jay is funnier than both of them put together. Jay is also funnier than Letterman (AKA “Asswipe”), Jimmy Falloon, the foreign guy who follows Letterman (Greg Fergusson?) and John Stewart. I also think Jay is much funnier and much more talented than Johnny Carson ever was.

Conan has really fucked up his “underdog” status. His arrogance really shines in the new doc about his post tonight show live tour. His “Tonight Show” didn’t get the ratings that Leno did, but was paid a $40 million severance package. And nevermind the fact that he essentially pushed Leno out by refusing to resign without a Tonight Show host guarantee. Sure NBC screwed him, but I find it hard to feel someone who got paid $40 million for not delivering as a host. And now he’s on TBS with even lower numbers. If I was Lopez I’d be pissed too.
Jay Leno is to blame for all of this. Everyone in Hollywood hates him and wishes they didn’t have to go on his show to promote(I have inside info, trust me).
The only people who love Leno are the companies that make denim button shirts.

Just another example of stunt-casting.
They tape less than 200 yards from each other on the Warner Lot–I’m surprised Conan hasn’t just walked over to Lopez’ set to borrow a cup of sugar or something just as a gag.
I think that one of the problems is that, because of the fragmentation of TV, the problems in the music industry, and weakness in big studio type studio movies (example: the kinds of movies Robert Redford used to do), there just aren’t all that many good people to interview out there.
I was really thinking that it would be good if Conan could Johnny Carson’s old guest lists and, literally, just invite all the old Carson show guests who are still alive, oxygen tanks and all. I would much rather see him interview Jerry Lewis than any reality TV star.

Its about Time Conan has received the respect that was a long time needed in return for all of the junk he had to put up with from Leno.
